Yet-to-be identified gunmen on Thursday launched an assault on a police checkpoint in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
According to DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in Ebonyi, the gunmen fatally shot one police officer and set ablaze a police vehicle at the scene of the attack.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, with Ukandu confirming the tragic loss of a police officer’s life and the destruction of a police vehicle.
“It happened early on Thursday morning. I have been trying to get the details of what happened, but one police officer was killed and a vehicle was burnt.
“More details will be made available soon,’’ he said.
