According to witnesses, armed assailants descended upon the areas, targeting unsuspecting victims who were en route to social gatherings and picnics.

The assailants, believed to be members of opposing cult factions, unleashed a barrage of gunfire, leaving a trail of casualties in their wake.

Although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, residents recount scenes of chaos and terror as the armed men engaged in what appeared to be a battle for supremacy.

Among the victims was a staff member of the Anambra State Judiciary, identified as Nwofor, who was reportedly on his way to an event when he was fatally shot.

Disturbing footage circulating on social media depicts the aftermath of the violence, with bodies strewn across the Eke Awka vicinity.

In one particularly harrowing scene, a wounded victim lies beside his motorcycle, surrounded by bystanders fleeing for safety.

Despite recent efforts by law enforcement to curb the menace of cult-related activities in Awka, the violence persists, raising concerns about the safety and security of residents.

However, authorities, including the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, have yet to confirm the incident, leaving the community grappling with the aftermath of the tragic events.
