Justice Adenike Coker of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, has ordered the arrest of Moroof Owonla, also known as Kaka Moroof, and others for their failure to appear in an ongoing felony trial against them.

The defendants stand accused of invading a hotel property with the intent to unlawfully seize it from businessman Hassan Alli, allegedly making off with building materials worth N30 million.

The court, frustrated by repeated adjournments due to the defendants’ absence, set the next hearing for May 13, 2024, warning of potential arraignment should they fail to appear.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution filed eight counts against Owonla, Olu-Aminu Yemisi Abdulaziz, and Ganiyu Aminu for conspiracy to commit a felony, involving the forcible entry into a property in Lagos.

Despite efforts by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, to explore restorative justice options, including an Alternative Dispute Resolution meeting, the defendants remain at large.

Complainant counsel, Imran Shitta-Bey expressed surprise at seeing the fugitives present at a previous ADR session, highlighting the need for their proper presentation for trial.

The case has been adjourned to May 13, 2024, awaiting the defendants’ arraignment.
