Tragedy struck on Tuesday evening as sixteen passengers lost their lives in a horrific auto crash along the Enugu-Opi-Nsukka road.

The accident occurred when a commercial bus collided with the fence of Maduka University, Ekwegbe.

The bus, an 18-seater Toyota Hummer with Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA, was reportedly speeding when it lost control and crashed into the university’s fence.

Upon impact, the vehicle burst into flames, leaving sixteen occupants trapped inside beyond recognition.

Despite the devastating scene, two passengers miraculously survived the crash and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

The swift response of police officers, soldiers, and concerned citizens helped rescue the survivors and contain the situation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus, loaded with edible vegetables, other food items, and passengers’ luggage, was en route to Nsukka from Enugu.

However, details regarding the exact departure point and final destination remain unclear.

Authorities from the Igbo-Etiti Police Division have recovered the passengers’ belongings, although further inquiries into the incident are underway to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
