Three Nigerian nationals have been deported from the United States after being convicted of various criminal offences, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Their return to Nigeria is part of a broader move by the U.S government to repatriate at least 3,000 Nigerians involved in different crimes across the country.
The deportees landed at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday morning aboard a Delta Airlines flight, which touched down just before 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, they were received by officials from several Nigerian government agencies, who are expected to determine the appropriate next steps for the individuals.
Sources noted that the deportation aligns with ongoing U.S immigration enforcement, which intensified during the administration of former President Donald Trump.
That administration had implemented stricter immigration policies aimed at reducing the number of undocumented or criminally convicted immigrants.
