It was a day of mourning and anguish in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, as the remains of three brothers brutally murdered in a recent herdsmen attack were laid to rest on Saturday.

DAILY GAZETTE gathered that the victims, all members of the Obibi family, were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in Mgbuji community, a part of the embattled Eha-Amufu axis that has endured repeated attacks over the years.

The funeral drew a somber crowd of grieving relatives, neighbours, and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects amid heavy emotions and visible frustration over what many described as a long-running reign of terror in the once-thriving agrarian community.

Eha-Amufu, known for its vast farmlands, has become a recurring hotspot for violent clashes, largely attributed to the activities of armed herders.

Dozens of lives have been lost in previous attacks, with entire villages displaced and farmlands abandoned.

Residents say the latest killings are yet another grim reminder of the community’s vulnerability and the government’s continued failure to ensure their safety.

“These boys did nothing wrong. They were just trying to live their lives. Now, look at how their young lives were ended,” said one of the mourners who preferred anonymity.

The three victims, described as hardworking and humble, were laid to rest side by side in their hometown, where prayers were offered for their peaceful repose.
