The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for urgent action to address the global shortage of teachers, describing the issue as critical to the future of education and national development.

In a statement marking World Teachers’ Day 2025, Senator Tinubu paid tribute to educators across the country and around the world, praising them as “true heroes” who shape minds, nurture dreams and guide future generations.

“As a lifelong teacher myself, I deeply respect the teaching profession and all those who dedicate their lives to it,” she said.

This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme, “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage,” highlights the growing concern over the dwindling number of educators worldwide.

The First Lady emphasized that this challenge must be met with urgency through strategic investments in teacher training, support, and recruitment.

“The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront head-on,” Tinubu said.

“We must empower educators, invest in their growth, and inspire more people to join this noble profession.”

She also used the occasion to commend the commitment and resilience of Nigerian teachers, especially in the face of difficult working conditions.
