..Hails Mbah’s Unprecedented Investment In Education

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark World Teachers’ Day 2025, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has described teachers as the unsung heroes of nation-building, stressing that their sacrifices must be matched with better welfare and societal recognition.

Speaking on Saturday in Agbani, the council headquarters, Hon. Ogbodo paid glowing tribute to teachers across Enugu State and beyond, calling them “the silent builders of the future” whose impact often goesn unnoticed.

“Behind every successful professional, leader or innovator, there is a teacher who helped shape their journey. Unfortunately, our society does not give teachers the recognition or reward they truly deserve,” he said.

The council boss used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers within the LGA, stating that education remains a top priority of his leadership.

Ogbodo commended Governor Mbah for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to revitalizing the education sector.

He described the Governor’s allocation of a record-breaking 33% of the state’s budget to education as a bold and transformative step and a clear demonstration of his belief that education is the cornerstone of sustainable development.

“We are witnessing a government that truly understands the value of education. Allocating over a third of the state budget to education is unprecedented and it speaks volumes about Governor Mbah’s foresight and dedication to building a better future for our children.”

He further stressed that a well-motivated, well-trained teaching workforce is critical to delivering quality education and reversing the decline in public schools.

“We can build all the schools in the world, but without motivated and well-supported teachers, we are going nowhere,” he emphasized.

“Government at all levels must follow Governor Mbah’s example and rise to the occasion.”

DAILY GAZETTE reports that world teachers’ day celebrated annually on October 5, is a global event to honour teachers and advocate for their rights as well as professional growth.

This year’s theme, the teachers we need for the education we want,” highlights the urgent need to address the global teacher shortage and empower educators to deliver inclusive, quality education for all.
