The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned Nigerians against resisting or engaging criminals during dangerous encounters, advising citizens to prioritise their personal safety above all else.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, gave the advice on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
Hundeyin urged members of the public to remain calm when confronted by armed or violent criminals, stressing that no material possession is worth the loss of life.
According to him, individuals who find themselves in such situations should avoid struggling or fighting back, as the primary focus should be survival.
He assured Nigerians that the police would take responsibility for tracking down and arresting the perpetrators.
“In the unfortunate situation where you find yourself in the midst of criminals, do not struggle or fight them. Stay calm and save your life first. We can always go after the criminals and ensure they are arrested,” he said.
The police spokesperson also revealed that the Force has made notable progress in dismantling criminal networks, particularly the notorious ‘One-Chance’ syndicates operating in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
He disclosed that several arrests had been made in recent days, including suspects linked to the killing of a lawyer in the FCT.
Hundeyin added that the victim’s phone had been recovered as part of ongoing investigations.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify efforts aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country.
