United States President Donald Trump has cautioned that Iran could face serious repercussions if ongoing negotiations over its nuclear programme fail to produce an agreement.

Speaking after hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump said Washington was hoping for progress within weeks but would not hesitate to escalate pressure if diplomacy breaks down.

He noted that failure to reach a deal could trigger what he described as a “very traumatic” outcome for Iran, while indicating that further military and strategic options remained under consideration.

Netanyahu, who travelled to Washington to press for tougher conditions in the talks, expressed doubts about the prospects of any agreement, particularly if it does not address Iran’s ballistic missile programme and its links with regional armed groups.

He listed organisations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi movement as key concerns for Israel, insisting that any deal must go beyond the nuclear issue.
Despite differences over negotiation strategy,

Trump reaffirmed personal support for Netanyahu and criticised Israeli President Isaac Herzog over his refusal to grant the prime minister a pardon in an ongoing corruption case.

The renewed diplomatic push follows a resumption of talks between the United States and Iran after earlier negotiations were disrupted by regional tensions and military strikes.

Iran has maintained that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and has rejected demands to broaden the scope of discussions, insisting it will not yield to what it describes as excessive conditions.
