Kano Emirate has witnessed the installation of two Galadimas, the highest traditional councillors of the emirate, in a development that reflects the ongoing legal battle between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero over the legitimacy of the Emir of Kano.

Sanusi, the reinstated 16th Emir, appointed Alhaji Munir Sanusi Bayero, the district head of Bichi, as the new Galadima of Kano. In contrast, Bayero, the dethroned 15th Emir, also crowned Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Galadima.

The two Galadimas were installed in separate ceremonies, with Munir Sanusi Bayero being turbaned at the Kofar Mata main palace, and Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero at the mini palace.

The Galadima serves as the highest traditional advisor to the emir, providing counsel and guidance.

Despite their new appointments, the dispute over who is the rightful Emir of Kano continues to unfold in the courts.

Sanusi also made additional appointments, naming four senior traditional councillors to hold important positions in the emirate.

The new councillors include Wamban Kano, Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, the district head of Nassarawa; Turakin Kano, Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, the district head of Gwale; Tafidan Kano, Adam Lamido Sanusi; and Yariman Kano, Alhaji Ahmad Abbas Sanusi.

During the turbaning ceremony, which was attended by Governor Abba Yusuf and his cabinet, Sanusi urged the appointees to maintain exemplary leadership.

He emphasized that their appointments were based on their proven loyalty and service to the emirate and the people of Kano.

“You have been chosen based on your track records and that of your families,” he told the new appointees.

“You have shown and demonstrated loyalty to the emirate, our lineage, the people, and the state. I urge you to continue helping the poor and contributing to society’s betterment.”

Sanusi’s message was clear: despite their new roles, the appointees must remain humble and continue the work they have been doing for the community, following the example set by their fathers.
