Air Peace has issued a statement clarifying that its recent flight cancellations and delays were due to safety considerations and in line with aviation safety standards.
The airline emphasized that it prioritizes human life and would never compromise safety for convenience, comfort, speed, or profit.
The statement, released by Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, came after passengers faced disruptions in their travel plans.
Air Peace expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delays but explained that these disruptions were necessary to ensure the safety of all passengers.
The airline assured the public that any instances of cancellations or delays were due to technical, operational, or weather-related issues falling short of safety standards.
“It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause, and when we do, we are often the greater loser financially,” the statement read.
“We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed or profit.”
Air Peace also thanked the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for its efforts to ensure adherence to global aviation safety standards and requested the airline to improve its domestic operations.
Despite the challenges, the airline clarified that its fleet size was not the cause of the cancellations.
“We have more aircraft than we are rostered to operate daily,” the airline said, further explaining that the issues were unrelated to any fleet shortage.
The airline cited a recent incident where one of its aircraft suffered a bird strike that damaged its engine while landing in Enugu.
The aircraft was grounded immediately in line with safety protocols, causing a ripple effect on other flights that the aircraft was supposed to service.
Air Peace assured passengers that this was an unforeseeable event that was beyond the control of the airline, but that safety would always remain its top priority.
“Every decision Air Peace has taken since its inception, whether resulting in delays, cancellations, or suspensions, has been made with the best interest of passenger safety in mind,” the statement emphasized.
The airline made it clear that it would continue to take similar actions in the future if necessary, as its commitment to safety remains unwavering.
The NCAA had previously held a meeting with the airline’s management due to several complaints regarding flight disruptions, highlighting the growing concern over such delays.
