As the Super Falcons prepare to face hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on the team to go all out and make the nation proud.

The much-anticipated final will take place today (Saturday) at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, where the Nigerian side is aiming to secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

In a goodwill message shared via a video on the Super Falcons’ official X (formerly Twitter) account, the First Lady praised the players and coaching crew for their exceptional performance throughout the tournament.

“My beautiful and lovely Super Falcons, I congratulate you and the officials for qualifying for the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” Tinubu said.

“I commend your team spirit, determination, and professionalism demonstrated in all your matches so far. You are shining examples to girls in Nigeria and Africa.

“As you step out for the final match, I pray God crowns your efforts with resounding victory. Make us proud, our worthy ambassadors and champions. Nigerians and I are waiting to receive you with a trophy in your hands.”

Led by head coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons have impressed throughout the tournament.

They began their campaign with wins over Tunisia and Botswana, followed by a draw against Algeria in the group stage.

In the knockout rounds, Nigeria crushed Zambia 5-0 in the quarter-finals and edged past South Africa’s Banyana Banyana with a 2-1 win in the semi-finals.

With just one match standing between them and continental glory, the team is focused on adding another chapter to their storied legacy in African women’s football.
