Tragedy struck the Nigerian football community on Monday morning as Akin Olowokere, newly appointed assistant coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), slumped and died during a training session in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to eyewitness accounts, Olowokere collapsed on the pitch while the team was engaged in their morning training at the club’s facility.

Medical personnel on-site responded immediately and rushed him to a hospital, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

“He slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital. He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital,” an eyewitness told DAILY GAZETTE

As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been released regarding the exact cause of death.

Olowokere, a former player for Sunshine Stars of Akure, had recently joined the Oluyole Warriors as part of the newly constituted coaching crew following the departure of the team’s former head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, and his staff.

A respected figure in Nigerian football, Olowokere was known for his calm demeanor and strong technical knowledge of the game.

He previously served as an assistant coach under Edith Agoye at Sunshine Stars.
