A kidnapping attempt along the Hayin-Dam road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State was thwarted on Sunday evening when two alert bus drivers used their vehicles to knock down suspected kidnappers while escaping an ambush.
The incident occurred around 6:00 pm at Sabon-Kurutu junction, as the buses were returning from the Katari market to Hayin-Dam village.
According to eyewitness Malam Ahmadu Muazu, the drivers acted swiftly when a group of armed bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the buses.
In a bold move to save their passengers, both drivers rammed their vehicles into the attackers before fleeing the scene.
“The driver of the first bus hit one of the gunmen and sped off. The second bus was also attacked, but its driver managed to strike another bandit before escaping,” Muazu said.
A female passenger on the first bus was shot during the crossfire and was rushed to a hospital in Katari, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Fortunately, no passengers were abducted, and all managed to escape the scene, thanks to the quick response and bravery of the two drivers.
At the time of this report, attempts to reach ASP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, were unsuccessful.
Messages sent to his phone had not been returned.
