The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has distanced itself from a man who falsely represented himself as an employee of the agency on a social media matchmaking show.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the EFCC identified the individual as Olakunle Alex Folarin, a former staff member who was dismissed for forging academic credentials. Folarin previously worked as a driver at the commission’s Ibadan Zonal Office.

The agency issued the clarification after Folarin appeared on a matchmaking programme hosted by influencer Lege Miami, during which he brandished an EFCC identity card while claiming to be affiliated with the anti-graft body.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, condemns in the strongest terms the misrepresentation by its dismissed staff, Olakunle Alex Folarin, who featured in a matchmaking programme on Lege Miami’s platform,” the statement read.

EFCC confirmed that Folarin had been sacked due to certificate forgery and stressed that he was expected to return all EFCC property, including his ID card, at the time of dismissal, which he failed to do.

The commission further revealed that its chairman has ordered Folarin’s immediate arrest and warned the public not to associate his personal actions with the agency.

“The conduct of this individual no longer reflects the standards or values of the EFCC,” the commission emphasized.
