The planned arraignment of activist Omoyele Sowore and online news outlet Sahara Reporters at the Federal High Court in Abuja has been delayed due to the absence of the media organisation, which is named as the second defendant in the case.
Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and Sahara Reporters are facing fresh charges including alleged forgery, defamation and incitement to mutiny.
The arraignment was scheduled to take place before Justice Emeka Nwite.
However, during Wednesday’s proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that the second defendant had not yet been served with a court summons.
According to the prosecution, an attempt to serve Sahara Reporters through substituted means, via newspaper publication, was unsuccessful as the publication was not ready in time.
As a result, Justice Nwite adjourned the matter to September 15, 2025, to allow proper service and ensure the presence of all defendants in court.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Sowore’s legal counsel, Marshall Abubakar, criticized the charges, calling them “baseless” and vowing to challenge their validity in court.
