The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 3.5 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within just three weeks of its launch.

According to a statement released on Monday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 3,544,850 people have pre-registered online as of September 4, 2025.

The CVR exercise began on August 18, 2025, and has so far recorded 288,614 completed registrations, which include both online and in-person submissions.

Olumekun revealed that women slightly outnumber men in participation, making up 51.76% of the online pre-registrations and 54.04% of the completed registrations.

Young people aged 18 to 34 dominate the process, representing 64.65% (2,291,809) of the online pre-registrations and 74.64% (215,414) of the completed registrations

Students also form a large portion of the registrants. 24.89% (882,441) of the online pre-registrations and 39.55% (114,150) of the completed registrations

INEC emphasized that only citizens aged 18 and above are eligible to register, warning against attempts to register underage individuals in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.

“It is illegal to encourage or allow underage persons to register. Only citizens who are 18 years or older at the time of registration are eligible,” Olumekun stressed.

He added that a comprehensive breakdown of the registration data by state, gender, age, occupation and disability status has been published on INEC’s official platforms.
