The number of casualties from the Afriland Towers fire in Lagos has climbed to 10, following confirmation by United Capital Plc that six of its employees were among the victims.

In a heartfelt statement released on Thursday, United Capital described the deceased as “integral members of the company’s family,” noting that their loss has left “an immeasurable void.”

“It is with profound grief that the Management and Staff of United Capital Plc announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues following the tragic fire incident at Afriland Towers on Tuesday, September 16, 2025,” the company said.

The fire reportedly originated from the inverter room located in the basement of the six-storey commercial building and quickly spread, despite intervention efforts by emergency responders.

On Wednesday, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) also confirmed the deaths of four of its employees who were caught in the blaze, bringing the total death toll to 10.

United Capital noted that it is currently planning a memorial service in honour of its fallen staff and pledged to provide full support to their families during this difficult time.

The company also extended appreciation to first responders, emergency personnel, and others involved in managing the crisis.

“We are deeply grateful to the emergency services for their swift action, and we remain committed to working with authorities as investigations continue,” the statement added.
