Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the “angel” sent by God to rescue Nigeria, praising his economic and governance reforms as vital steps toward building a “new Nigeria.”

Speaking on Saturday at a pro-Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo rally, which aired on TVC, Bello urged Nigerians to look beyond symbolism and acknowledge Tinubu as the reformer the country had long awaited.

“We will not wait for an angel with wings to fly down into Nigeria. The angel is already here and his name is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Bello told the crowd.

Bello cited several of Tinubu’s bold policy moves, including the removal of fuel subsidies, implementation of a student loan scheme and the floating of the naira’s exchange rate, describing them as essential steps in repositioning the country.

“Before 2015, Nigerians demanded a country without fuel subsidies, one with student loans, a floating exchange rate, and policies that would increase wealth. These things are already happening,” he said.

While acknowledging that change will not happen overnight, Bello argued that the structural problems Nigeria faces require gradual but firm action, something he says Tinubu is already delivering.

“No government can fix everything at once, especially after decades of decay. But this president is fixing it, and we must stand behind him,” Bello stated.

Bello also called on Nigerians to not only support President Tinubu’s current efforts but also to secure his legacy beyond a first term.

“Leadership without legacy is meaningless. We are already in a new Nigeria. We want the President to leave behind a solid legacy, one we can uphold and continue,” he said.

Reflecting on his own political journey, Bello said he was proud of the role he has played and the impact of his leadership.

“Today, I am happy and fulfilled. These are my legacies and some of them are here watching me.”

Bello’s public endorsement adds momentum to growing political support for Tinubu’s potential 2027 re-election bid.

As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for future elections, Tinubu’s allies are highlighting his early reforms as proof of his commitment to national development.

Since taking office in 2023, President Tinubu has introduced several major reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, attracting foreign investment and boosting public revenue, though some of his policies have sparked debate due to their immediate economic impact.

Still, supporters like Bello believe these measures are laying the groundwork for a stronger Nigeria.
