Operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, were briefly halted on Thursday following an incident involving a private jet on the runway.

The aircraft, identified as a Gulfstream 400 with registration number 5N-PZE, reportedly suffered damage to its nosewheel while landing at about 2 p.m.

According to an airport source who spoke to The Guardian, the jet had departed Enugu Airport for Abuja carrying 10 passengers and four crew members when the incident occurred.

“Yes, I can confirm there was an aircraft incident on the runway of Abuja Airport today,” the source said.

“The aircraft, which arrived from Enugu, had a nosewheel problem during landing. All 14 persons on board were safe, and there were no casualties. The situation led to a brief closure of the airport while officials cleared the runway.”

The aircraft was later evacuated from the scene, though the cause of the malfunction was not immediately known at the time of reporting.

Efforts to reach the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Henry Agbebire, for comment were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages or calls.

Normal flight operations were expected to resume once safety checks on the runway were completed.
