Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, has held discussions with Plateau-based cleric Ezekiel Dachomo and representatives of Miyetti Allah as part of ongoing peacebuilding efforts in the state.
According to Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Essiet was deployed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a peace envoy to promote dialogue and reconciliation in the region.
During her two-day engagement, she met with Dachomo, regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, as well as traditional and community leaders.
The discussions centered on leveraging faith-based leadership to foster peace, unity, and social development.
Essiet also addressed widows, conveying President Tinubu’s message of ethnic reconciliation, and met with Fulani leaders in Barkin Ladi to strengthen dialogue and understanding between pastoralists and farming communities.
In addition, she conducted a workshop focused on establishing a Community-Based Peace Structure across the 17 Local Government Areas of Jos.
“Dr. Essiet held a closed-door session with the Irigwe community, Miyetti Allah representatives, and the Youth Council of Bassa LGA to discuss sustaining peace. The 17-member peace committee was highlighted as a key tool for dialogue, reconciliation, and coexistence between communities,” the statement read.
The presidential aide reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and noted that the Community-Based Peace Structure serves as an instrument for grassroots unity and long-term stability in North Central Nigeria.
A tangible result of the initiative was the resolution of a dispute between David Toma, owner of Agha Farm in Gyel district of Jos South, and some herdsmen over farm destruction, which led to the return of two cows.
