The Accord Party leadership has reaffirmed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was duly nominated and elected as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election, cautioning expelled members against causing internal strife or attempting to mislead the public about the party’s leadership structure.
Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant in the primary, secured 145 out of 150 delegates’ votes on Wednesday to emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
However, a faction led by former presidential candidate Prof. Chris Inumolen rejected Adeleke’s emergence.
Responding on Friday, the Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, dismissed Inumolen’s claims, stressing that he had long been expelled for serial anti-party activities.
Akande described Accord as one of Nigeria’s most stable and disciplined political parties, maintaining that transparency, internal democracy, and zero tolerance for godfatherism remain its core principles.
Akande further dismissed allegations that the National Chairman, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, had been suspended.
He cited the party’s National Executive Committee meeting of December 3, 2025, which unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Mgbudem.
“At no point was the chairman subjected to any disciplinary action,” he said, referencing a statement by Hon. Oke Rotimi of the Spokespersons’ Forum of Accord State Chairmen in the South West.
Clarifying timelines, Akande confirmed that Governor Adeleke officially joined Accord on November 6, 2025, and was formally unveiled on December 9.
He went on to win the December 10 governorship primary, which Akande said was held in strict compliance with NEC-approved guidelines and monitored by INEC officials.
He urged party members and the public to disregard “false and mischievous claims” aimed at destabilising Accord ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial poll.
