Governor Yusuf,
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved an extensive welfare package for the father of the woman and six children brutally killed in the Chiranci Dorayi area of the state, including a new house, sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, and full government support.
The governor announced the intervention on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, describing the incident as one of the most heartbreaking tragedies in Kano State in recent times.
Governor Yusuf said the government could not allow the grieving father to face such an overwhelming loss alone, stressing that compassion and responsibility must guide governance in moments of tragedy.
“This is a loss that has shaken the conscience of Kano State. No parent should endure this kind of pain. As a government, we must stand with him and ensure he is supported,” the governor said.
The Dorayi killings had shocked residents on Saturday after a family of seven, comprising a mother and her six children, were murdered in their home, sparking widespread outrage and renewed concerns over domestic violence and security within residential areas.
Following the incident, security agencies launched investigations and arrested three suspects linked to the killings.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the welfare intervention was described as part of the administration’s commitment to justice, compassion, and social protection for victims of violent crimes.
“The governor has approved the provision of a befitting house, comprehensive welfare support, and sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah to enable the bereaved father rebuild his life,” the statement said.
The governor further assured the man of continued government support, including assistance should he decide to remarry, as well as all necessary help to restore his dignity and stability.
On the matter of justice, Yusuf directed the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to ensure the speedy prosecution of suspects already arrested in connection with the killings.
“Justice must not be delayed. Anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law, and I will not hesitate to sign the death warrant once the courts conclude their work,” the governor said.
He noted that similar resolve would apply to other major criminal cases in the state, including the murder of Hanifa and the Gezawa arson attack, once suspects are convicted by the courts.
Governor Yusuf also commended the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies for their swift response and collaboration, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
In a gesture of appreciation, the bereaved father donated his personal house to the Kano State Government for the construction of an Islamiyya school to serve the Chiranci community.
The governor prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for strength and comfort for their family and the people of Kano State.
In a related development, Yusuf also paid condolence visits to the family of the late Dr Bature AbdulAziz, President of the National Patriotic Elders Forum for Peace and Unity, whom he described as a committed patriot and advocate of peace.
He also visited Baba Umar, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Schools Board, to commiserate with him over the death of his mother.
