The Kogi State Government has announced the rescue of persons abducted during Tuesday’s attack on a school in Odo-Ekina, Dekina Local Government Area, following a coordinated operation by security agencies.
Among those rescued are the school principal, an ad hoc official of the National Examinations Council (NECO), and students who were taken away by the gunmen during the attack.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, attributed the successful rescue to the swift intervention ordered by Governor Usman Ododo immediately after the incident.
According to him, sustained pressure mounted by security personnel forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the forest.
Fanwo said security operatives have continued combing the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
He disclosed that the rescued victims are receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing by security agencies.
The commissioner commended the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups and other security personnel for their professionalism and cooperation during the operation.
He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for directing security agencies to provide the necessary support that contributed to the successful rescue mission.
The Kogi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling insecurity, warning that criminal elements would continue to face decisive action across the state.
