Domestic airlines in Nigeria delayed 4,765 flights and cancelled 36 others in August 2026, according to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The regulator disclosed this in its monthly summary of domestic airline operations released on Sunday through its official X handle.
The NCAA said 15 domestic carriers operated a combined 7,961 flights during the month, with 59.9 per cent of the operations affected by delays.
Air Peace recorded the highest number of flight operations during the period, operating 1,864 flights, of which 1,330 were delayed.
The figure represents 71.4 per cent of the airline’s total operations for August.
The data highlights the scale of flight disruptions experienced by air travellers across the country during the month, with thousands of passengers affected by delays and cancellations.
The NCAA regularly monitors domestic airline operations as part of its regulatory responsibilities and uses such data to assess airlines’ operational performance and compliance with aviation standards.
The latest figures come amid continued concerns over flight delays and disruptions in Nigeria’s aviation sector, with the regulator urging airlines to improve their service delivery and ensure greater reliability for passengers.
The NCAA has also continued to enforce consumer protection regulations, including provisions relating to passenger compensation and remedies when airlines fail to meet their obligations.
The authority recently sanctioned RwandAir N15 million over a passenger’s damaged baggage, directing the airline to replace the bag and pay $170 as first-need compensation.
The NCAA said the action was consistent with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection, compensation and other remedies for air travellers.
