The Enugu State Ministry of Transport has clarified that the temporary disruption at the Holy Ghost Terminal was caused by a dispute over road obstruction and not taxation, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as fake news.
The clarification was issued by the Commander of the Ministry of Transport, MOT, Mr Kenneth Ugwu, who said the incident followed a misunderstanding between transport officials and Keke riders over the use of unauthorised loading points.
According to Ugwu, the riders had been directed to vacate the road and relocate to the designated Keke park within the Holy Ghost Bus Terminal.
He explained that the disagreement that followed briefly disrupted vehicular movement in the area, creating tension among commuters, motorists and other road users.
Ugwu said the situation had since been resolved, noting that the Keke Riders’ Association had pledged to comply fully with the government’s directive.
He added that the riders had commenced relocation into the designated park within the terminal as part of efforts to maintain free movement and prevent further obstruction of roads across the state.
The Ministry therefore urged members of the public to disregard reports linking the incident to a tax dispute, stressing that the government’s position was focused on ensuring orderly traffic movement and compliance with designated loading points.
