Gov. Sanwo-Olu Mourns Lagos DPO Who Died During Surgery

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep grief over the passing of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Town Division, describing her death as a monumental loss to the Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State.

Ngbaronye reportedly passed away on Friday following complications from a surgical operation at the Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.

In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu commiserated with the Police Service Commission, the Lagos State Police Command, the deceased’s family, friends, and the entire Festac community.

“The death of the Divisional Police Officer of Festac Town Division, Lagos State, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who reportedly passed away on Friday following complications from surgery at a private hospital in Lagos, is a colossal and irreplaceable loss,” the governor said.

He described the late officer as a highly professional and dutiful policewoman who demonstrated passion, courage, and integrity throughout her career.

“Late CSP Ngbaronye was a dedicated, committed and professional police officer who devoted her life to the service of the Nigeria Police Force,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

“She served passionately, and her service record across various assignments reflected integrity, diligence, dedication, and commitment to duty.”

The governor extended his condolences to her family, associates, and colleagues, praying for divine comfort and strength during their period of grief.

“On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Lagos State, I express my heartfelt condolences to the late CSP Ngbaronye’s family, friends, associates, the Lagos Police Command, and the Police Service Commission,” he said.

“I pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant CSP Matilda Ngbaronye eternal rest.”

Adebisi added that details of her burial arrangements would be announced later.

Air Peace Begins Direct Flight From Abuja To London Heathrow

Air Peace Limited has officially commenced direct flights from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to London Heathrow Airport, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The inaugural flight on Sunday was attended by distinguished passengers, including Mr. Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

“The flight took off this morning, Sunday, October 26, 2025, and is expected to arrive this evening in London, marking a major milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry,” the statement said.

Keyamo has been actively pursuing the explicit reciprocity of air-service rights under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

“While dispatching a letter dated August 1, 2024, to his British counterpart, Louise Haigh, UK Secretary of State for Transport, the Minister insisted that a Nigerian carrier be granted landing rights at London Gatwick and the coveted Heathrow slot,” the statement added.

Speaking at the boarding, Mr. Allen Onyeama, Chairman of Air Peace, praised Keyamo’s intervention.

“I could remember when Customs brought in a four per cent FOB charge for our imports, the aviation operators, we went to the Minister, and he stepped into it immediately. He took the matter to the Finance Minister and to Customs.”

“Today, within one week, the four per cent FOB has been removed for Nigerian airlines. I will support and applaud this government. The government listens to aspirations of people, the complaints and challenges of the people,” Onyeama said.

He added, “When Nigerian helicopter-airline owners cry to the minister about a certain charge, he removes it on the spot to make life very simple for these airlines. So it’s not just about Air Peace.”

Minister Keyamo highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting local carriers.

“Over 100 airlines have come and gone. Concord, Belview, Sosoliso, Chanchangi, name them. So we had a clear mandate to ensure that we support the growth, sustenance, and competitiveness of our local operators. If you destroy the private sector in your country, you destroy the country. Every good economy thrives on the wealth and well-being of the private sector,” he said.

Keyamo emphasized that local operators are critical to employment and economic growth.

“The private sector is the greatest employer of labour and engine of growth. International airlines have been coming to Nigeria for nearly 90 years on some routes, lifting passengers back and forth without our operators fully participating. Under our BASAs, we had rights too. But no capacity, no access, no slot at Heathrow. Today, that changes.”

“The Abuja-London Heathrow route underscores Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing connectivity, supporting local aviation infrastructure, and promoting flag carriers on the global stage,” the minister said.

DAILY GAZETTE reports that Keyamo had previously stated in June 2025 that the landmark flight follows sustained diplomatic efforts by the Federal Government to enforce reciprocity in international air travel agreements.

He noted that the breakthrough resulted from a letter sent on August 1, 2024, demanding the immediate allocation of landing slots at Heathrow for Air Peace, or the risk of reciprocal action.

Yahoo Boys Remark: Stop Glorifying Fraud, APC Fires Back At Obi

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his recent remarks suggesting that internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo boys, should be redirected rather than prosecuted.

Obi, in a post on his official X page, stated:

“I told the youths that some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation. Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development. Our challenge is to channel their energy from deception to productive enterprise.”

Responding to Obi’s message, the APC, through its spokesperson Seye Oladejo, said:

“There’s nothing genius about crime, yahoo yahoo is a social tragedy, not a talent.”

In a detailed statement, the Lagos APC chapter expressed deep concern over Obi’s remarks, describing them as morally irresponsible.

“The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has noted, with deep concern, the recent obscene and morally reprehensible statement credited to the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, describing internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys, as ‘geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation.’

“This reckless comment represents a new low from a politician on a free fall, a man so desperate to remain politically relevant that he now seeks validation through controversy. It is both disappointing and dangerous that someone who once aspired to lead Nigeria would trivialise criminality in a country striving to rebuild its moral foundation.”

The party also expressed alarm at what it called Obi’s glorification of fraud and moral contradiction.

“We are genuinely worried about Mr Obi’s state of mind, one that glorifies fraudulent practices while condemning corruption and dishonesty in the same breath. Such a contradiction exposes a profound moral confusion that has no place in leadership.

“From his recent statements, Nigerians owe their Creator immense gratitude that the nation dodged a bullet during the last presidential election. The thought of someone with such confused values at the helm of national affairs is terrifying.

“It has become evident that the collapse of his so-called ‘movement’ and the lack of a credible political platform have brought out the worst in him. His desperation for attention has replaced reasoned leadership with reckless speech. There should be a limit to unbridled desperation.”

The APC condemned Obi’s comments as misleading, asserting that he exploited youth frustrations to build a campaign based on social media hype.

“Mr Obi owes the Nigerian youth – particularly those he misled through propaganda, misinformation, and emotional manipulation – a sincere apology.”

“He exploited their hopes, fed their frustrations, and built a campaign on deceit and social media hysteria. The least he can do now is to retain some modicum of respect by refraining from further embarrassing statements that insult the intelligence of the same young people he deceived.

“True leadership demands responsibility, not recklessness; moral strength, not moral confusion.

“While the APC firmly believes in youth empowerment and innovation, we reject any attempt to romanticise fraud or excuse crime under the pretext of compassion. Internet fraud is not genius; it is theft, deceit, and moral failure.”

The statement highlighted ongoing youth empowerment initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigerian youths are being equipped with real opportunities through initiatives such as the 3MTT (Three Million Technical Talent Programme), NELFUND, and digital innovation programmes that provide legitimate avenues for success.

“That is how responsible leadership redirects youthful potential – through empowerment and skill, not through glorification of crime. Leadership is about values, not vibes; about integrity, not impulsiveness. Mr Obi’s latest outburst is a tragic reminder that populism without principle is a danger to democracy.

“The APC remains committed to promoting discipline, innovation, and moral rectitude as the true path to Nigeria’s greatness. Our youths deserve mentorship, not manipulation; inspiration, not incitement.”

Ex-Kogi AA Governorship Candidate Dumps Party, Joins ADC

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Kogi State governorship candidate Olayinka Braimoh has officially defected from Action Alliance (AA) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Braimoh, who contested the 2023 gubernatorial election under AA, made the announcement on Saturday in Kabba, headquarters of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, during a formal defection ceremony.

He explained that his move was motivated by a desire to transform leadership in Kogi State.

“With the calibre of persons in the party, ADC coalition is the platform under which I believe my vision of a new Kogi State can be actualised,” Braimoh said.

He urged residents of Kogi to join the ADC movement, emphasizing the need for like-minded individuals to tackle poverty and ineffective governance in the state.

“The opportunity for the coalition and the need to have like minds work together to move the mountain of poverty and visionless leadership from our dear state, Kogi, motivated me to join ADC, and the party is also a bigger and better platform to contest.”

“Kogi State is below in terms of leadership performance, considering the potentials, capacities, and intellectual assets that this state possesses.”

“It is like a case of the worst leading the rest of us, while the best of us have not had the opportunity of leading. That is the reason why we decided to join the coalition to move our state forward,” he added.

Braimoh also encouraged citizens to obtain permanent voter cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the electoral process.

“The cries for a better Nigeria can only be made possible by Nigerians who are ready to take the bull by the horn by voting and seeking positions during the electioneering period,” he said.

Welcoming Braimoh, ADC Chairman in Kogi State, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, described his defection as a timely and strategic boost for the party.

“ADC has the sympathy of the citizens at heart, and by the time Nigerians give us power, they will see what we will do for the good of all,” Ogga said.

“Braimoh is a plus to the party in the state. ADC is united and ready to take centre stage in the next political dispensation in the country, promising righteous and credible leaders who will serve with the fear of God.”

Braimoh was formally presented with the party membership card, marking his official induction into ADC.

PDP Will Reclaim Benue In 2027, Says Former Governor Ortom

Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will return to power in the state during the 2027 general election.

Ortom gave the assurance on Friday in Makurdi while hosting members of the PDP G-14 and other party stakeholders from the 14 local government areas across the state.

The G-14 is a forum of PDP elders drawn from Benue North-East and Benue North-West senatorial districts, who serve as strategic advisers within the party.

Dismissing rumours of his alleged plan to defect from the PDP, Ortom described such reports as the handiwork of “mischief makers,” reiterating his commitment to the party and its ideals

. He maintained that the PDP in Benue remained strong and would emerge even more united ahead of the next polls.

“What is required of all of us is to remain resolute and work together to build this party,” Ortom said.

“I can assure you that if we stay united, the PDP will reclaim power in the state in the coming election.”

The former governor further stated that he had no plans to contest any elective office in 2027 but pledged his total support to all PDP candidates to ensure the party’s success at the polls.

He urged aspirants within the party to consult widely, stay focused, and not be discouraged by the recent defections of some members to the ruling party.

Also speaking at the event, Laha Dzever, leader of the PDP G-14, commended Ortom’s leadership, describing it as purposeful and unifying.

Dzever reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to the former governor and its commitment to working for the PDP’s victory in 2027.

Police Nab Seven Suspected Cultists Preparing For Election Violence In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended seven suspected cultists allegedly being prepared for political thuggery ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were caught during an initiation ritual in a bush at Obinagu, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.

Ikenga revealed that officers of the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, working with the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, stormed the scene in the early hours of Sunday and successfully arrested the suspects, identified as members of the Black Axe confraternity.

Items recovered at the scene included a 25-litre keg filled with a red liquid substance, red ritual garments, two wooden drums, and footwear belonging to the suspects and other accomplices who managed to escape.

“The suspects, all male, include Ugorji Emmanuel (29), Ogamba Chinuike Anthony (22), Chibuzor Agudiegu (25), Destiny Okasi (22), Udewulu Nzube (19), Ifeanyi Anikpe (21), and Sunday Akuma (20),” the statement read.

Ikenga explained that preliminary investigations suggest the initiation was part of a recruitment and training process aimed at using the suspects for election-related violence in Njikoka and Anaocha LGAs.

He added that the suspects tried to flee when security operatives arrived but were apprehended after a swift chase.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and warned that the police would deal decisively with anyone involved in activities that could disrupt public order before, during, and after the forthcoming election.

Orutugu also urged parents, community leaders, and youth groups to intensify efforts toward moral guidance and to discourage cultism and political thuggery.

He appealed to residents to continue providing credible information that could help in crime prevention and the arrest of criminal elements.

The Command also disclosed that investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing members and dismantle linked cult networks operating in the area.

DAILY GAZETTE had earlier reported a similar incident in September, where four suspected cultists were arrested in Nsugbe community, Anambra East LGA, following a violent clash behind Nwafor Orizu College of Education. During that confrontation, one suspect sustained machete injuries while others escaped into nearby bushes.

Dangote Refinery Expands Capacity To 1.4 Million Barrels Per Day, Set To Become World’s Largest

The Dangote Refinery has announced an ambitious expansion of its production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.4 million bpd, positioning it to become the largest refinery in the world once completed.

When the expansion is finalized, the Lagos-based facility will surpass India’s Jamnagar Refinery, which currently holds the global record for refining capacity.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Sunday, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said the move underscores both the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s potential and its alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to transform the country into a global energy hub.

“We are more than doubling the barrels… to 1.4 million from 650,000,” Dangote told journalists.

“This will make it the largest refinery in the world, surpassing India’s Jamnagar Refinery.”

Dangote described the expansion as a strategic investment in the continent’s future.

“This expansion is about confidence in Nigeria, in Africa, and in our capacity to shape our own energy future,” he said.

He commended the Federal Government for creating an enabling environment that continues to drive private sector participation in the energy and manufacturing sectors.

According to him, policies such as the Nigeria’s First Policy, the Naira-for-Crude Policy, and the One-Stop Shop Initiative have significantly boosted industrial productivity and encouraged local refining.

Dangote also revealed that recent operational challenges at the refinery, including disruptions linked to union disputes and acts of sabotage, were swiftly resolved through government mediation.

The expansion project, he noted, would not only strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global oil market but also ensure energy security, reduce import dependence, and create thousands of additional jobs across the value chain.

Thailand, Cambodia Sign Malaysia-Brokered Ceasefire As Trump, Anwar Witness Agreement

Thailand and Cambodia have reached a ceasefire agreement in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing an end, at least temporarily, to months of deadly border clashes between the two Southeast Asian neighbours.

The accord was formally signed on Sunday by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, in a ceremony witnessed by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit.

According to Cambodia’s foreign ministry, the agreement includes the release of 18 Cambodian prisoners of war on humanitarian grounds.

Both countries had previously agreed to a temporary ceasefire in July 2025, which was partially brokered by Trump, but tensions flared in recent months with each side accusing the other of violating the truce.

Speaking before the signing, President Trump hailed the deal as a “monumental step” towards peace in the region and praised both leaders for what he described as a “great act of statesmanship.”

“This is a great peace deal… which I proudly brokered between Cambodia and Thailand,” Trump said before departing for the next leg of his Asia tour, which will culminate in talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Mohamad Hasan, who represented ASEAN during the peace talks, explained that the agreement focuses on the deployment of regional observers to monitor the ceasefire and ensure compliance.

“We want there to be no more ceasefire violations,” Mohamad said.

“Although the July 28 truce was in place, there were still minor incidents. Both countries must now withdraw their heavy weapons from the conflict zones and work together to remove landmines along their shared borders.”

Nigeria Will Reach 2026 World Cup, Chelle Vows

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has declared his determination to guide Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging his players to adopt a fierce, warrior-like mentality as they prepare for next month’s playoffs.

Speaking on 90 Minutes With Mathematical hosted by Segun Odegbami on Eagle7 FM on Saturday, the Franco-Malian tactician thanked Nigerian fans for their unwavering support and vowed to reward their faith with qualification.

“Thanks to the fans. Thanks to Nigeria. I’m so happy that I have brought back smiles to their faces,” Chelle said.

“We beat Benin because the fans pushed the players. I ask them to do the same during the playoffs. I plan to give my best for Nigeria, and Inshallah, we will go to the FIFA World Cup.”

Since taking charge of a struggling Nigerian side in January, Chelle has inspired a remarkable turnaround.

When he arrived, the Super Eagles were winless in their first four qualifiers, with three draws and a defeat putting their World Cup hopes in jeopardy.

Under his leadership, however, the team surged back to form, winning four and drawing two of their last six games to collect 14 points from a possible 18.

The highlight came earlier in October, when Nigeria hammered Benin Republic 4–0 in Uyo, reigniting national belief.

Despite the resurgence, the Super Eagles narrowly missed automatic qualification, finishing among the four best runners-up in Africa.

They will now contest a continental playoff in November for a chance to reach next March’s intercontinental tie.

Nigeria’s first test will be a one-legged playoff against Gabon, with a potential clash against Cameroon or DR Congo in the final round.

Chelle, however, remains confident that his men are ready for the fight ahead.

“Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup is not a war, but it is like a war,” he said.

“My players need to have a warrior’s mindset. They must fight like sharks.”

APC Does Not Exist In Anambra – APGA Spokesman

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ejimofor Opara, speaks on he party’s readiness for the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election and responds to criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

How prepared is APGA for the Anambra governorship election?

We are fully prepared. Our structures are strong, and our campaign is active across all 21 local government areas. In fact, our goal isn’t just to win all LGAs but to secure victory in the 5,720 polling units across Anambra.

Our campaign has been strategic rather than flamboyant. Governor Chukwuma Soludo, our candidate, has redefined the tone and character of political campaigns in Anambra and across the South-East.

On a scale of one to ten, our opponents are still struggling to reach one, while Soludo is already at a perfect ten.

The atmosphere in the state is calm and positive, and the mood within our party is that of confidence and celebration.

The APC has criticised the N50 million campaign fee, calling it a ploy by the APGA-led government to suppress opposition. What’s your reaction?

That’s simply crying wolf. The Anambra State Advertising and Signage Agency (ANSAA) is a legally established body responsible for regulating outdoor advertising and ensuring public safety. Similar practices exist globally.

If the APC has concerns about the fees, they should formally engage with the agency instead of making baseless accusations.

The APC insists it will win the election. Do you take that claim seriously?

Everyone is entitled to dream, even if it’s a bad dream. The APC in Anambra knows it’s fighting a lost battle. Their candidate does not even enjoy the support of their national leadership — not even the President.

The truth is, the APC has no real structure in Anambra. It is, in every sense, a toothless bulldog. If they claim to exist, let them show their ward and local government structures.

How can anyone say APGA has failed in Anambra? What do they even understand by “failure”? The reality is that Anambra remains stable, and Governor Soludo’s leadership is delivering results.

The APC also alleges that community donations to Soludo’s campaign are sourced from local government funds. What’s your response?

That’s false and mischievous. Has any local government come out to say their allocation was withheld? None. The APC is simply grasping at straws.

What they should be asking themselves is whether they even have a manifesto. They don’t. Their only campaign message is that they want to “connect to the centre.”

But governance is not about connection, it’s about service.

Anambra people are voluntarily donating to Governor Soludo because they believe in his leadership. These are real people, not ghosts. If the APC has proof that the donations are illegal, they should present it to the EFCC.

The truth is, Soludo’s candidacy is not just APGA’s — it’s a consensus candidacy of the people of Anambra.

The APC claims that the governor is trying to distract its candidate by questioning his qualifications. What’s your take?

If your certificate is genuine, how is that a distraction? Qualification is a fundamental issue in every election. Recently, a minister resigned after it was discovered that his certificate was fake.

So, if the APC feels uncomfortable about certificate verification, perhaps they have something to hide. Those who are genuine don’t get distracted by the truth.
