Sowore Debunks Police Claims, Insists Court Did Not Stop #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has dismissed reports suggesting that the Federal High Court in Abuja halted the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025.

Speaking in response to what he described as a deliberate misinformation campaign, Sowore stated that the court did not grant any order restricting citizens from engaging in peaceful demonstrations, contrary to claims circulated by police legal representatives and some media outlets.

According to Sowore, Justice Umar of the Federal High Court declined to issue the ex parte motion filed by the Nigeria Police Force, which sought to stop the nationwide protest calling for the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“There is no valid court order stopping the protest. What the police obtained is a questionable document secured in chambers, not in open court and it hasn’t even been served on any individual or group,” he clarified.

The said document reportedly requests that protest activities be barred from key government locations such as Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way in Abuja.

However, Sowore insists that this is not a blanket ban on the protest itself.

He accused the authorities of weaponizing disinformation to instill fear and confusion among potential participants.

“This is a psychological operation by the state to discourage civic action. But Nigerians are not fooled,” Sowore said.

“The protest will go on as planned. October 20 is sacrosanct.”

Organizers of the protest have vowed to proceed with the demonstration across major cities in Nigeria, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has remained in custody despite multiple court rulings ordering his release.

Sowore emphasized that peaceful assembly is a constitutional right, warning security agencies not to provoke violence by attempting to suppress lawful protests.

“The right to protest is not subject to police approval. We will be out on the streets, peacefully and boldly, because silence is no longer an option.”

JUST IN: Nottingham Forest Sack Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou following a dismal eight-match winless streak that left the club hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone.

The announcement was made via a brief statement on the club’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday evening, shortly after a crushing 3-0 home loss to Chelsea at The City Ground.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect, following a series of disappointing results and performances,” the statement read.

“The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou’s short tenure yielded zero wins, six losses, and two draws, including a shocking Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Swansea City, where Forest surrendered a 2-1 lead in stoppage time to lose 3-2.

The only bright spots during his brief reign came from a goalless draw against Burnley in the Premier League and a gritty 1-1 result against Real Betis in the Europa League.

Despite mounting pressure, the 60-year-old remained defiant in recent weeks.

Just two weeks ago, he brushed off speculation about his job security following a 3-2 home defeat to Midtjylland in the Europa League, insisting that “pressure doesn’t enter my head.”

Postecoglou’s Forest appointment came in September, just months after his shock dismissal from Tottenham Hotspur, only 16 days after guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, a historic 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

With his latest sacking, the Greek-Australian has now been relieved of managerial duties twice in four months, a rare and humbling sequence for a manager once hailed for his attacking philosophy and swift turnarounds.

Forest brought Postecoglou in to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, whose tenure ended amid internal friction and poor performances.

Eight matches into the 2025/2026 campaign, Nottingham Forest have managed just one win, two draws, and five losses.

They currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, narrowly above the relegation zone with five points.

The club has yet to announce a replacement for Postecoglou as they look to steady the ship ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

FAAC Disburses Record N2.1 Trillion To FG, States, LGs In Landmark Revenue Sharing

In a historic milestone, the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has disbursed an unprecedented ₦2.1 trillion among the federal, state, and local governments for the month of September 2025, the highest revenue allocation in Nigeria’s history.

The disbursement followed FAAC’s monthly meeting held in Abuja and was confirmed through a communiqué released by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, and a statement from the Ministry of Finance’s Director of Information, Mohammed Manga.

The breakdown;

– Federal Government: ₦711.31 billion

– State Governments: ₦727.17 billion

– Local Governments: ₦529.95 billion

– Oil-Producing States (13% derivation): ₦134.95 billion

– Cost of Collection: ₦116.14 billion

– Transfers, Refunds & Interventions: ₦835 billion

The total amount was drawn from a gross revenue of ₦3.05 trillion, sourced from statutory allocations, Value Added Tax (VAT), and the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).

One of the major highlights of the allocation was the sharp increase in VAT collections, which rose by ₦150 billion, from ₦722.61 billion in August to ₦872.63 billion in September.

From this VAT pool N34.9 billion was allocated for cost of collection, N25.1 billion was used for transfers and refunds, the remaining ₦812.59 billion was distributed as follows: Federal Government: ₦121.89 billion

State Governments: ₦406.30 billion

Local Governments: ₦284.41 billion

While VAT, import duties, and EMTL posted strong performance, Company Income Tax (CIT), excise duties, and customs levies recorded a decline.

Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) and oil & gas royalties saw marginal changes.

Gross statutory revenue stood at ₦2.13 trillion, which represents a decline of ₦710 billion compared to ₦2.84 trillion in August.

The EMTL contributed ₦53.84 billion to the overall revenue for September.

Minister of Finance Wale Edun was notably absent from the FAAC meeting due to health reasons.

In his absence, Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings held in Washington, D.C. on October 12.

This record revenue sharing marks a significant boost for all tiers of government amid rising economic challenges.

Analysts say the increased VAT collection signals stronger consumer spending and a more effective tax administration.

However, concerns remain over declining corporate tax and customs revenues, which may indicate strain on business activity and external trade.

Dunukofia Community Endorses Soludo, Donates To Re-Election Campaign

Thousands of residents of Dunukofia Local Government Area in Anambra State have unanimously endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term, ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

The endorsement came during a rally held at the LGA headquarters in Ukpo on Friday, coinciding with the community’s annual New Yam Festival, “Iweife-Ubi.” Supporters turned out in large numbers to welcome Governor Soludo, his wife Dr. Nonye Soludo, and Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.

At the event, residents donated an undisclosed sum to support Soludo’s re-election campaign. The rally also featured the inauguration of the Dunukofia legislative building.

In his speech, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, recalling the area’s strong backing during the 2021 election.

“We won resoundingly in Dunukofia in 2021, and I’ve been told we will win all the wards and polling units again,” he said.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Soludo said, “We have laid a solid foundation in the last three and a half years. There are massive improvements in education. Public schools, which were in a terrible state, have seen significant upgrades.”

The governor also mentioned the employment of 8,115 new teachers, improved public health facilities, and restored security across the state.

“What we have achieved in this first term is more than what some administrations did in eight years,” he added.

Soludo assured residents of continued development in his second term, pledging more infrastructure, education reforms, and youth empowerment initiatives.

The President-General of Ukpo, Cyril Ezewulu, described Soludo’s re-election as “non-negotiable,” stating that Dunukofia is fully behind the governor and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“Nobody in Dunukofia will vote for any other political party,” he declared.

Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, praised Soludo’s efforts, noting that the governor constructed over 13 kilometers of road in the area, including 10.2 km and 3.1 km stretches.

He also highlighted the construction of “smart schools,” such as the community primary school in Umunachi.

Other speakers, including the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amaucheazi (SAN), women leaders, youth representatives, and APGA stakeholders, echoed support for the governor’s second term bid.

They lauded his development-driven leadership and people-oriented policies.

The rally featured various cultural displays, a chieftaincy title ceremony, and prize presentations for outstanding farmers in categories such as largest cassava and yam farms, biggest tuber, largest poultry, and vegetable farms.

Winners received cash prizes ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦500,000.

Support groups and individuals also made additional cash and cheque donations to support the governor’s campaign.

EBSU Expels Three Students Caught With Guns During SUG Elections

The management of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has expelled three students caught with firearms during the recently concluded Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Awoke, made the announcement during the inauguration ceremony of the new SUG executives held on campus over the weekend.

Awoke said the university would not tolerate any form of cultism, violence, or intimidation on campus, adding that the expulsion of the students was intended to serve as a stern warning to others.

“This issue of cultism is banned in Ebonyi State University as long as I remain the Vice Chancellor,” he declared.

According to the VC, the students were arrested by the Police after being caught with guns and live ammunition during the SUG election.

They were alleged to have fired shots to scare students and attempted to attack the Dean of Student Affairs.

“This issue of coming to the university environment with guns must stop. The use of firearms to intimidate my lecturers or manipulate grades must stop immediately,” Awoke said.

He emphasized that anyone found guilty of cultism, examination malpractice, or weapon possession would be expelled without hesitation.

“By the powers vested in me as the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, these students are hereby rusticated. They are no longer my students,” he said firmly.

The university disclosed that the expelled students are already facing legal proceedings in a competent court, assuring that the law would take its full course.

“Being a student does not give you the license to carry firearms and threaten others especially during elections. This is unacceptable, and justice will be served,” Awoke added.

The Vice Chancellor urged students to pursue their academic goals in peace and avoid associations that could ruin their future.

According to prosecutors, the senator used outlets including and to describe Akpoti‑Uduaghan as “a habitual accuser,” “a woman who uses her gender as a weapon,” and “a mother of six from different men,” among other remarks.

BREAKING: Military Foils Coup Plot To Overthrow Tinubu, 16 Officers Arrested

At least 16 senior military officers have been arrested over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, according to a report by SaharaReporters.

The officers, reportedly holding ranks from Captain to Brigadier General, were apprehended in coordinated operations carried out by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and other security agencies across various locations nationwide.

While the Defence Headquarters initially downplayed the arrests, describing them as part of a “routine military exercise” involving “issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations”, sources within the military suggested a more serious motive.

“The 16 officers were planning a coup. The military authorities were just being diplomatic in the statement released by the spokesperson,” a senior DIA official was quoted as saying.

“They had begun holding secret meetings to overthrow the President and announce a military government.”

In an official statement, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, explained that the detention followed internal investigations linked to misconduct and disobedience.

“Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues,” Gusau said.

“Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.”

However, multiple high-ranking security insiders insist that the arrests were directly related to a thwarted coup attempt uncovered through classified intelligence monitoring and intercepted communications.

One security source disclosed that the coup plotters allegedly planned to strike during the October 1 Independence Day celebrations, targeting President Tinubu and other key government officials.

“Yes, they were arrested for planning to stage a coup and take over government,” the source confirmed.

“That was why the Independence Day parade marking the country’s 65th anniversary was abruptly cancelled. Intelligence indicated they intended to strike during the event.”

The source added that the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), led by Nuhu Ribadu, collaborated closely with service chiefs to brief the Presidency and ultimately recommended the parade’s cancellation after confirming credible threats.

Nigeria has endured a turbulent history of military interference in politics.

Since its independence in 1960, the country has witnessed five successful coups and several failed attempts, with each episode casting long shadows over its democratic progress.

The recent defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubisi Mbah, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a major step towards accelerating development in Enugu State and strengthening the APC’s presence in the Southeast.

This was the view of Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who spoke to journalists in Abuja.

Describing the move as a “historic turning point,” Nnamchi welcomed the governor into what he called “the home of vision, unity, and renewed hope,” aligning Governor Mbah’s political trajectory with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“With profound joy, I warmly welcome His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, into the All Progressives Congress,” Nnamchi said.

We Can’t Find Doctors To Recruit, Kwara State Govt Cries Out

The Kwara State Government has raised the alarm over a severe shortage of medical doctors across its health facilities, describing the situation as “worrisome” amid mounting pressure on the public health system.

Speaking during a ministerial press briefing with the state’s Ministry of Communication, Dr. Abdulraheem AbdulMalik, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board, said the shortage is driven by the ongoing “brain‑drain” or “japa” phenomenon.

“We have the governor’s approval to recruit doctors, but we simply can’t find enough doctors to recruit,” he said.

“Doctors are hot cakes now. If one resigns in the morning, they’ll have another job by afternoon.”

According to AbdulMalik, the state currently has only 99 doctors employed, well below the estimated 180 to 200 needed to adequately serve its population and of those 99, only 96 are currently on payroll.

“We actually had 96, but after the governor increased salaries, three returned. So we now have 99,” he noted.

“We nonetheless still require about 180–200 doctors across the state.”

The shortage is most acute in rural areas, where attracting and retaining medical professionals is particularly challenging.

To address this, the board is working to introduce better remuneration and incentives for rural‑service doctors.

Additionally, the state is developing a software application to support its 45 health facilities, enabling patients to check in real time how many doctors are available at a given facility, aimed at reducing long wait times and the risk of patient collapse while waiting for care.

To build a sustainable supply of doctors, Kwara is also rolling out a retention scheme that will begin in approximately three to four years.

Under the plan, the state will sponsor students from medical schools for one or two years, in exchange for a mandatory service period in Kwara after graduation.

“We’re starting from the 400‑level students now. After their clinical level training, they’ll work back for the state as repayment for the investment,” AbdulMalik explained.
