The First Lady emphasized that this challenge must be met with urgency through strategic investments in teacher training, support, and recruitment.

“The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront head-on,” Tinubu said.

“We must empower educators, invest in their growth, and inspire more people to join this noble profession.”

2027: I’ve Paid My Dues, It’s My Turn – Tinubu’s Power Minister Defends Gov’ship Bid

Nigeria’s Minister of Power and 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed his ambition to lead the state, insisting that his desire is rooted in service, not personal gain.

In a video trending online, Adelabu, who previously contested for governor in 2019 and 2023, stated that he has been part of the political journey long enough to understand the process and the sacrifices involved.

Speaking in Yoruba, Adelabu said, “I have paid my dues. I ran against Seyi Makinde in both 2019 and 2023. Politics, like life, doesn’t always reward you immediately. But today, I boldly declare, it is our turn, it is my turn. Adelabu! Àwálòkàn! Penkelemesi Èmilòkàn !”

The former Central Bank deputy governor first declared his 2027 ambition in July 2025, and has since intensified grassroots consultations across the state.

In the viral clip, he emphasized his love for the people of Oyo, particularly the poor and less privileged, stating that improving their lives is his driving motivation.

“We will begin our door-to-door campaign soon. With God on our side and the support of the people, victory is certain,” he said confidently.

Adelabu made the comments during a meeting with APC leaders and party faithful in Oke-Ogun Zone 2, which includes six local government areas: Oorelope, Saki East, Saki West, Olorunsogo, Irepo, and Atisbo.

While addressing the gathering, he underscored the importance of internal democracy and unity within the APC, warning against the imposition of candidates in the upcoming party congress.

“United APC owns Oyo State. PDP is only a tenant in Agodi Government House. A divided house cannot stand. We must come together to reclaim our mandate in 2027,” he declared.

Adelabu assured party members that the 2027 election would be an opportunity to restore APC’s leadership in the state, if the party stays united and democratic.

Wike, Fubara Meet With Rivers Elders Ahead Of New Cabinet Formation

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and several elders of the state amid ongoing political restructuring in the state.

The meeting, which also had Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, in attendance, was made public by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, who shared a photo online.

However, Olayinka did not disclose the agenda or outcome of the discussions.

This development comes days after Governor Fubara dissolved his cabinet, removing commissioners considered loyal to Wike, as he prepares to constitute a new executive council.

The recent wave of dismissals is believed to be tied to the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year, which upheld the legitimacy of the Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, widely seen as aligned with Wike.

During a valedictory session last week at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara confirmed the dismissals were necessary in light of the ruling.

He expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their service over the past two years and emphasized his renewed commitment to lead the state forward.

The restructuring is reportedly part of the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the long-standing rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

One of the key agreements reached was the formation of a new cabinet with broader consensus.

Following the end of the state’s emergency rule, the House of Assembly had formally requested the governor to submit names of commissioner nominees.

A new cabinet list is expected to be unveiled soon.

Umahi Reveals What Southeast Must Do To Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged the people of the South-East to maintain a law-abiding and appreciative stance as efforts to secure the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, continue.

Speaking in Aba during the commissioning of infrastructure projects by Governor Alex Otti, Umahi, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event, emphasized the need for unity and patience as political leaders pursue a diplomatic resolution to Kanu’s prolonged detention.

“The governors of the South-East, our senators, House of Reps members, and ministers, even those not from the region, are working seriously on a political solution. But we must be law-abiding and appreciative. The President has love for the South-East and is listening,” Umahi stated.

His remarks come amid growing optimism over Kanu’s potential release. Governor Otti had earlier assured that President Tinubu is open to resolving the matter through political means.

“I can assure you that I am engaging with Mr. President, and he is favourably disposed to it. I’m confident that in no distant future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Otti said.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in custody at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja since June 2021, following his controversial rendition from Kenya.

Despite several court rulings, including a UN advisory opinion calling for his release, the Federal Government has maintained that he must face ongoing treason charges.

‘Hatred And Racism Cannot Tear Us Apart,’ First Woman Archbishop Of Canterbury Sarah Mullally Says

In a landmark moment for the Church of England, Dame Sarah Mullally has been appointed as the first woman to serve as Archbishop of Canterbury in nearly 500 years of the Church’s history.

Delivering her first address at Canterbury Cathedral, Mullally acknowledged the challenges ahead and called for unity in a time of global turmoil.

“In a world of uncertainty, the path to healing lies in acts of kindness and love,” she said, adding that the Anglican tradition offers “something quieter and stronger” than the tribalism seen in today’s society.

A former Chief Nursing Officer for England, Mullally entered the priesthood in 2006 and quickly rose through the ranks of the Church.

She had served as Bishop of London for nearly eight years prior to her new appointment.

Her speech also addressed pressing issues, including the deadly synagogue attack in Manchester, where she condemned antisemitism and racism, saying: “Hatred cannot be allowed to tear us apart.”

The Church’s history of safeguarding failures, promising to listen to survivors and confront the misuse of power.

Her strong opposition to assisted dying, describing related legislation as unsafe and a threat to the vulnerable.

Though she made only brief mention of being the first woman in the role, Mullally thanked the women who paved the way and expressed her commitment to supporting diverse ministries within the Church.

She will be formally confirmed and enthroned as Archbishop in January 2026, taking over from Justin Welby, who resigned amid criticism over his handling of abuse cases.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III both welcomed her appointment, with Starmer calling it a “key role in our national life.”

Reflecting on her journey from nurse to spiritual leader, Mullally said, “I have always had one vocation: to follow Jesus Christ.”

She concluded her address with a message of collective responsibility: “If you want to go far, go together.”

I’m Under Pressure To Join ADC – Pastor Tunde Bakare

The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Dr. Tunde Bakare, has revealed that he is facing mounting pressure from political actors to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

However, the outspoken cleric has firmly ruled out the possibility.

Speaking at the inaugural edition of the Citadel School of Governance Dialogue Series, themed “Nigeria at 65: Historical Reflections, Futuristic Projection,” held in Oregun, Lagos on Saturday, Bakare disclosed that several prominent figures, including a former governor and minister from the South-West, have approached him about aligning with the ADC.

“There has been a lot of pressure on me from who is who to join ADC. They come to my home. Even while I was abroad, the hierarchy of that party kept calling, saying they needed my voice,” he said.

He also noted that a younger political associate, someone who held key offices under the All Progressives Congress (APC), had encouraged him to support the ADC.

Despite these overtures, Bakare was unequivocal in his response:

“I am not going to take part in ADC. The last time I knew about ADC was about a plane that crashed. I wish them well because we need a robust opposition. But you don’t birth a child called APC and then try to kill it yourself. We are not going to have another Awolowo–Akintola crisis in the South-West,” he said.

Bakare, who was involved in the founding of the APC, also expressed his belief that the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu was ordained.

“If God wants to remove ‘emilokan,’ He knows how to do it. You can’t get the kind of thing Tinubu has brought without God’s support,” he asserted.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Akinjide Osuntokun, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, addressed Nigeria’s enduring challenges. According to him, corruption and tribalism remain the country’s most damaging issues.

“Corruption is the father or mother of tribalism. If the money being stolen was available for development, Nigeria would be far better,” Osuntokun said.

He emphasized that the ethnic identity of a president should not be the focus—results and good governance should matter more.

“The fact that Tinubu is president does not automatically improve the life of an average Yoruba man, just as an Igbo presidency will not improve the life of the ordinary Igbo man if there is no development,” he added.

Lagos Government Denies Demanding N700 Million Bribe To Stop Demolition At Ikota

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has dismissed claims that the ministry demanded ₦1 billion, later reduced to ₦700 million, from property owners at Oral Estate, Ikota, to stop the demolition of illegal structures.

The denial follows a viral video in which a woman alleged that Commissioner Wahab and ministry officials agreed to suspend demolition works in exchange for the payment related to “shit piling” on the estate.

In the video, the woman said,

“Thank God for today. We have peace of mind. We’re not hearing an excavator tearing people’s houses down, people crying. The Commissioner, Ministry of Environment came and we had an agreement that my estate is going to pay ₦1 billion for shit piling. It ended in ₦700 million. My estate is trying to gather the money and give them this month.”

However, in an official statement released via his social media platforms on Sunday, Wahab categorically denied the allegations.

“Neither I nor any official from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has requested or received any payment, whether ₦1 billion, ₦700 million, or a single kobo, from any property owner,” he said.

The commissioner described the video as a malicious attempt to discredit the government and distract from ongoing efforts to safeguard Lagos residents from flooding.

He emphasized that the ministry’s operation to clear illegal obstructions along drainage channels and canals is crucial for public safety and has not been suspended for any negotiations or payments.

“Our work continues. This propaganda is a dangerous distraction from our critical mission to prevent flooding and protect the majority of Lagosians,” Wahab stated.

The ministry also warned residents against engaging intermediaries or making payments to halt lawful enforcement actions.

In response to the controversy, Wahab announced that legal action will be taken against the individual responsible for the false claims, who will be required to present evidence to authorities.

Meanwhile, government teams have intensified demolition of illegal structures within river setbacks and drainage corridors in Ikota and neighboring estates to mitigate recurring seasonal flooding.

Gov Mbah’s Farm Estate Progamme: A Pathway To Sustainable Food Security, By Ifeanyi Ogenyi

Since coming into office, Governor Mbah has assiduously embarked on various landmark developmental projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the citizenry and also to reposition the state for more socio-economic growth.

In a move to transform the agricultural sector, Mbah has initiated the farm estate programme in the state.

The programme is aimed at establishing at least three farm estate in each of the 260 wards in the state operating as cluster farms, with each estate covering about 200 hectares per ward.

The land will be provided by the host communities for the project and the ownership of the land remains with communities even where there are private investors involvement.

With a structured guidelines by the government, the land will be allotted to the local farmers who may partner with investors; while the government prodive the needed support.

His vision is to transform the state into an agricultural goldmine capable of feeding her people and exporting its surplus.

The move is not just about increasing food security; it’s also about creating jobs, supporting local communities, and building a robust, self-sustaining economy.

The farm estate is a state government -driven initiative to bring a shift from traditional subsistence- rain dependent agricultural practice to digital- based farming systems as a pathway to sustainable food security not only in the state but across the nation.

Governor Mbah is on a mission to modernize and raise the productivity of agricultural sector through provisions of appropriate technologies.

This is a leap forward into agricultural revolution in the state. He has procured large number of modern tractors for onward delivery to the 17 LGAs in the state to empower the local farmers.

Part of his policy implementation mechanisms is structured around Public-Private Partnership ensuring collaborative approach to agricultural reforms in the state . The vision is to transform Enugu into a food bank of the nation capable of supplying high quality produce to Nigerian market.

This farm estate initiative is not just an innovation in the agricultural sector; it’s the forerunner of Enugu’s economic renaissance . It is not only about food production;it’s also about laying the foundation for economic diversification and resilience

What we must appreciate here is the potential impact of this agricultural transformation which will extends far beyond the state’s borders.

It is a transformation towards creating a favourable environment for investment in agribusiness, promoting export-based agriculture, increased domestic food production, forestalling post-harvest losses as there will be warehouses, reliable energy supply for efficient farm operations.

Value chains in produce distribution would undoubtedly be streamlined. There is no doubt it will provide job opportunities for our people, while contributing to our GDP growth.

By this agricultural program, the local farmers in the state will be empowered through grants, supply of mechanized farm implement, farm inputs and improved seedlings.

And by establishing at least three of the farm estate in each ward in the state, it will go a long way in accommodating many farmers within the area.

By this programme, Enugu is repositioning itself as an export state and can significantly contribute to the Nigeria’s overall economic growth; and could attract international investments and partnerships, further bolstering its economic standing.

The security and environmental impact of this agricultural initiative cannot be overlooked either. Farm estate is a security -efficient and environmentally friendly method of farming that maximizes crop yield while minimizing waste and promoting the security of the farmers.

In a state like Enugu, where we often have herders-farmers clashes, the adoption of such sustainable farming practices is crucial and helpful. The farm estates will be fenced and manned by trained security personnel aimed at preventing invasion by anyone not granted access.

Mbah’s unwavering commitment to swing the state’s economy towards sustainable agriculture is manifest and laudable.

As Enugu State takes this innovative and bold steps towards agricultural excellence, it stands as a model for other states in contributing to nation’s food security.

However, the road to transformation is fraught with challenges such aa resistance to changes and new policies, security concerns, and the need for skill development among farmers are hurdles that must be overcome.

The success of Governor Mbah’s transformation in the sector will hinge on the state’s unwavering commitment to addressing these issues head-on, communicating appropriately to the citizens, providing the agricultural sector with the need infrastructure, security, and skilled workforce it needs to thrive.

The government’s role is pivotal, but so is the involvement of the stakeholders, the host communities and private sector.

There is no doubt that Public-private partnerships can be a catalyst for agricultural development, providing the expertise, funding, and innovation necessary to elevate Enugu’s agricultural sector to international standards.

As Governor Mbah looks strides to make Enugu a bastion of agricultural export., his vision is clear and need to be supported.

With the right mix of political will, investment, and community engagement, Enugu State can indeed become a bastion of agricultural exports. It’s a vision that doesn’t just aim to change the landscape of the state but also seeks to transform the lives of its people, ushering in a new era of growth and stability.

Contradiction Emerges Over Minister Nnaji’s Degree As UNN Letter Confirms 1985 Graduation

A letter issued in 2023 by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) appears to contradict recent claims that the institution has no academic record of Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche (Geoffrey) Nnaji.

The document, dated December 21, 2023, and signed by the University’s Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Celine Ngozi Nnebedum, confirms that Nnaji was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry and graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in the same field, earning a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

Referenced as RUN/SRIRV.1, the letter was addressed to Samuel Ogundipe of People’s Gazette and includes Nnaji’s registration number, 1981/30725, the same number linked to the ongoing certificate authenticity debate.

DAILY GAZETTE reports that the said letter was printed on official letterhead and copied to the Registrar’s Correspondence Unit, bearing UNN’s full contact details and website.

This letter directly contradicts reports circulated earlier this week, alleging that UNN had no records of the minister’s graduation.

As of the time of reporting, efforts by DAILY GAZETTE to secure an official explanation from the university regarding the contradictory documentation were still ongoing.

Minister Nnaji has yet to comment publicly on the matter.

However, there are calls for an independent verification of both letters to establish the truth.
