EFCC Vows To Break Corruption Siege In Nigeria

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has pledged a more aggressive crackdown on corruption, promising to uphold a culture of integrity within the agency and weed out any officers who deviate.

Speaking at the Passing Out Parade (PoP) of 404 EFCC cadets in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Olukoyede said the Commission is committed to “breaking the siege of graft in Nigeria” through professionalism, patriotism, and strict accountability.

“The Commission has shown that it is capable of tackling any economic and financial crime,” Olukoyede said.

“Our strength lies in our human capacity. These cadets represent a new era, and we expect them to raise the bar.”

The PoP, held at the Nigeria Police Mobile Force Training College in Ende Hills, featured 294 Detective Superintendent Cadets and 110 Detective Inspector Cadets.

Dignitaries, including Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, were in attendance.

Governor Sule, who served as the Reviewing Officer at the event, reiterated the need for judicial reforms to strengthen the EFCC’s work. He advocated for the creation of special courts dedicated solely to corruption cases.

“Our justice system is burdened. To ensure timely trials, I urge the National Assembly to establish a special anti-corruption court,” the governor said.

“This will help remove bottlenecks and accelerate justice.”

He congratulated the cadets for their resilience and commitment, adding that their performance gave hope for a better Nigeria.

“Today’s display shows you’re ready to serve. The future of Nigeria looks brighter because of young officers like you.”

Sule also called on lawmakers to further empower the EFCC through legislation and funding, especially as the country undergoes constitutional review.

UNGA: Delegates Stage Walkout As Netanyahu Delivers Fiery Speech On Gaza

Dozens of country representatives walked out of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the stage to deliver his address, amid growing international criticism of Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

Despite the walkout, Netanyahu pressed forward with a defiant speech focused on Israel’s campaign against Hamas.

“We’re not done yet,” he declared. “The final elements, the final remnants of Hamas, are holed up in Gaza City. They vow to repeat the atrocities of October 7 again and again… That is why Israel must finish the job, and that is why we want to do so as fast as possible.”

In a rare move, Netanyahu’s office announced that the speech would be broadcast live via loudspeakers aimed at Gaza and streamed to the cell phones of residents, including those of hostages still believed to be held by Hamas.

Addressing the hostages directly, Netanyahu said in Hebrew and English:

“Our brave brothers, this is Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaking to you live from the United Nations. We have not forgotten you, not even for a second… We will not falter and we will not rest until we bring all of you home.”

Turning to Hamas, he issued a stern warning:

“Lay down your arms, let my people go, free the hostages — all of them. If you do, you will live. If you don’t, Israel will hunt you down.”

Using a map previously displayed at the UN to highlight threats from Iran and its allies, Netanyahu recounted Israel’s military operations over the past year:

“We’ve hammered the Houthis, including yesterday. We crushed the bulk of the Hamas terror machine. We crippled Hezbollah, taking out most of its leaders and much of its weapons arsenal.”

He added that “thousands of terrorists dropped to the ground,” in what he described as a sustained counterterrorism campaign.

Netanyahu also credited former U.S. President Donald Trump for assisting Israel in striking Iranian nuclear sites earlier this year:

“President Trump and I promised to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and we delivered on that promise,” he said, calling the operation a blow to “a mortal threat to the civilized world.”

Before leaving Tel Aviv for New York, Netanyahu condemned leaders who voiced support for Palestinian statehood during the UN summit.

“When the most savage terrorists on Earth are praising your decision, you didn’t do something right, you did something horribly wrong,” he said. “It will be a mark of shame on all of you.”

Outside the UN headquarters in New York, families of hostages still held in Gaza gathered to protest. They urged Netanyahu and world leaders to prioritize efforts to secure the release of the captives.

Meanwhile, inside the General Assembly hall, Netanyahu’s remarks were met with mixed reactions, applause from allies and silence or empty seats from critics.

Enugu: How Hon. John Ogbodo Is Getting Things Done In Nkanu West

By Johnpaul Anih, Ph.D

If you ask around in Nkanu West today, one name comes up with surprising ease and warmth “Hon. John Ogbodo”. Not because he’s making noise or buying headlines, but because he’s quietly and consistently doing the work. For a local government area that had grown used to the politics of promise and fail, what’s happening now almost feels too good to be true.
But it’s real.

Walk into his office any day and you’ll find him on seat, not hidden behind layers of protocol or personal assistants, but right there, present and ready to listen.
You’ll find no red tape, no gatekeepers, no “come tomorrow” excuses. The door is always open, the seat always warm, and the ear ever attentive. Whether you’re a farmer from Umueze, a youth from Agbani or a market woman from Amurri.
His door doesn’t recognize class or status. Go there, you’ll get a chair and you’ll be heard.
That kind of accessibility is rare. Too rare.

He isn’t just occupying space, he’s carrying the weight of the office with seriousness and humility. He understands what it means to be elected. He knows who he’s working for, the people, and he has shown that through actions, not words.

Now, I won’t compare him to his predecessors. That’s not the point.
But to be honest, Nkanu West has entered a different kind of season under his watch.

When the party under the solid leadership of Governor Peter Mbah called on him to serve, the reaction wasn’t mixed. The applause was thunderous. It was joy across board. Streets celebrated and party faithful felt confident.
A loyal party man who understands the delicate dance of political structure had arrived.

And why not? The people knew what they were getting ‘a servant’, not a “boss”, a leader with calloused hands, not manicured detachment.

Since taking office, Hon. Ogbodo has not disappointed. He hit the ground running, not with the empty fanfare of ribbon cuttings, but with the grit of real work.
Take a drive through the communities and you’ll see it. Access roads are under construction, especially those leading to the new Smart Green Schools and Type-Two Hospitals, aligning directly with Governor Mbah’s reforms in education and healthcare.

These are not cosmetic projects, they are providing access to services that were once out of reach.

Environmental sanitation has also received a major boost. Waste bins now stand tall in key locations. Roads that used to be blocked by debris like those in Umueze, Obe, and Ozalla have been cleared and beautified with flowers and landscaping. There’s a touch of pride returning to public spaces.

One project that caught the attention of many is the revamp of the long-abandoned Eke Agbani abattoir. It’s no longer the eyesore it used to be. It has been transformed into a modern facility, complete with toilets, solar-powered boreholes and water tanks. A public health intervention right?

There’s also what’s happening at Four Corner Park in Ozalla where the council is tackling the age-old problem of open defecation. That may not make flashy headlines, but for those living there, it’s a big deal. It’s about dignity.

Drainages along the Enugu – Agbani road have been cleared. Why? Because Hon. Ogbodo understands that a flood doesn’t care about politics, it just destroys.
He quickly addressed the flood threats that once kept residents awake during the rainy season.

The once-choked neighborhoods with the chaos of unplanned buildings are being reclaimed.

Other ongoing projects? The Ngene-Ukwa bridge at Achikpa in Ndegu Akpugo is awaiting commissioning.
Other internal roads? Quiet, but making steady progress.
These projects are the threads stitching together a more mobile and functional Nkanu West.

But beyond the physical projects, it’s his style of leadership that people are talking about, his openness, his respect for all and his refusal to use political power as a tool for revenge or exclusion.
He values results and believes in only one side “the people’s side”.

Gone are the days of political thuggery and strongman tactics. Ogbodo has in turn, elevated competence and credibility.

His philosophy? “Peace toward all, malice toward none.” And from what we’re seeing, it’s not just a catchy line, it’s the reality on the ground.

In today’s Nkanu West, no one is too poor, too unknown or too politically unaffiliated to be heard.
Yes, things are different now.

He has not just raised the bar, he has redrawn the entire beat.

And if this is what local governance looks like under Hon. John Ogbodo, then maybe, just maybe, Nkanu West has finally found its rhythm.

Fubara Dissolves Rivers Pensions Board Inaugurated By Ibas

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Rivers State Pensions Board (RSPB), which was inaugurated earlier this month by the former Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd).

The dissolution was announced in an official statement issued by the Head of Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown.

According to the statement, the functions of the defunct board will now be managed by the Office of the Accountant General.

The now-dissolved board had been inaugurated on September 12, just before the end of the emergency administration in the state.

At the time, Ibas had tasked the board with addressing long-standing issues surrounding pension administration in Rivers State.

However, Governor Fubara’s directive marks a swift reversal of that move.

The statement further directed all former board members to hand over any assets or property of the board in their possession to the Director of Administration.

“His Excellency, the Executive Governor, will in due course constitute a new board to manage the affairs of pensions,” the statement concluded.

Your Pain Is Like Surgery, But Growth Is Underway – Tinubu To Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has once again addressed the nation’s ongoing economic challenges, likening the current hardship to the pain of surgery, with the promise of eventual recovery and prosperity.

Speaking in Ibadan on Thursday during the coronation of former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the worst is over.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel. Your suffering is the pain of a painful surgery, but we have turned the corner, and prosperity awaits,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Ibadan for their support during the 2023 presidential election and acknowledged their resilience amid his administration’s economic reforms.

Since taking office in May 2023, President Tinubu has rolled out sweeping economic policies, including the controversial removal of the fuel subsidy.

While the move was intended to stabilize the economy, it has led to a sharp rise in fuel prices, transportation costs, and food inflation, deepening hardship for many citizens.

Critics argue the reforms have worsened poverty, while supporters maintain they are necessary for long-term economic recovery.

President Tinubu was in Ibadan to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who officially became the 44th Olubadan following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.

Tinubu arrived in the city at around 2:25 pm, accompanied by Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).

He was received by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde before heading to Mapo Hall, the venue of the coronation ceremony.

At the event, Tinubu praised the new monarch, calling him “a rare gem of history” and praying for a long and impactful reign.

“It’s a great honour for me to witness your coronation. All the things you started and the history we’ve shared make this moment very special,” Tinubu said.

Governor Makinde presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office in front of a large crowd of dignitaries and traditional rulers.

Notable guests included former governors Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Ibikunle Amosun, as well as NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Traditional rulers in attendance included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III

The event was heavily secured by operatives from the DSS, the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies.

Borno Police Confirms Death Of Three Children Found In Parked Car

Tragedy struck in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State as the Police Command confirmed the sudden and unnatural death of three young children discovered inside a parked vehicle.

The victims identified as Anwar Baba Zannah (3 years), Mama Baba Zannah (1 year, 5 months) and Ahmed Muhammad (5 years), were reported missing on September 23, 2025, by their parents, Baba Zannah Jaridama and his neighbour, Muhammad Bukar.

Two of the children were Jaridama’s biological children, while the third belonged to his neighbour.

Initial speculation circulated online suggested foul play, with some unconfirmed reports linking the deaths to Jaridama’s alleged criticism of unnamed politicians on social media.

Others believed the children may have wandered into the vehicle while playing and tragically suffocated after getting trapped.

In an official statement on Friday, Borno Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, clarified that the children’s bodies were discovered the following morning, September 24, inside a parked Honda Civic belonging to Jaridama.

Police officers promptly responded and evacuated the victims to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

The bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

CAC, SMEDAN Launch Free Business Registration For 250,000 MSMEs

In a bid to promote formalisation and support small businesses, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) have launched a nationwide campaign to provide free business name registration for 250,000 nano, micro and small enterprises (MSMEs).

The initiative was unveiled in Abuja, where both agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the scheme.

A joint statement released by CAC and SMEDAN said the drive is part of commemorating the second year in office of CAC Registrar‑General Hussaini Magaji and SMEDAN Director‑General Charles Odii, both appointed in October 2023.

Formal registration has long been a barrier for many small businesses in Nigeria. Costs, bureaucratic processes, and lack of awareness often keep entrepreneurs in the informal sector, limiting their access to finance, markets, and government support.

This new campaign seeks to remove those hurdles by covering the registration cost for eligible MSMEs, onboarding beneficiaries into SMEDAN’s MSME database and connecting them with aftercare services, including training, grants, and market linkages.

At the event, CAC’s Registrar‑General emphasized that current reforms under President Bola Tinubu are designed to expand opportunities for small businesses across Nigeria.

“This drive is about breaking down the barriers that keep too many of our small businesses informal. By removing the cost of business name registration for 250,000 businesses, we are helping more entrepreneurs take the first step towards growth, legitimacy, and access to bigger opportunities,” he said, adding that CAC will forgo approximately N3 billion in registration fees for this scheme.

SMEDAN’s DG, Charles Odii, noted that this collaboration not only encourages formalisation but also addresses the high failure rate of SMEs.

“Formalisation is the gateway to support. By ensuring these businesses are registered and onboarded into our database, we can provide continuous aftercare, whether that is access to grants, training, or new markets,” Odii said.

He explained that MSMEs already in SMEDAN’s database but without CAC registration will automatically qualify for this programme.

Odii further assured that an upcoming CAC fee review will not affect this free registration drive.

To benefit from the programme, Visit portal.smedan.gov.ng to fill out the registration form, MSMEs on SMEDAN’s database without CAC registration will automatically qualify, Once registered, beneficiaries will receive instructions on how to complete their CAC certification.

Across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, SMEDAN’s state offices and on‑ground Business Clinics will assist entrepreneurs who may face challenges with digital processes.

By lowering the barriers to formalisation, this initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda, aiming to foster a more enabling environment for entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
