39 Year-Old Nigerian Extradited From France To US Over Alleged Hacking, Fraud

A 39-year-old Nigerian national, Chukwuemeka Victor Amachukwu, has been extradited from France to the United States to face multiple charges related to computer hacking, fraud, and identity theft, the U.S Department of Justice announced on Tuesday.

According to officials, Amachukwu and his co-conspirators based in Nigeria are accused of hacking into U.S tax preparation companies, stealing sensitive customer information, and submitting fraudulent tax returns.

These illegal activities reportedly allowed them to fraudulently obtain over $2.5 million in tax refunds from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“Amachukwu also allegedly participated in another fraud scheme where he promised victims lucrative investment opportunities that never materialized,” said Jay Clayton, U.S Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Beyond these tax-related offenses, Amachukwu is further accused of exploiting stolen identities to file fake claims under the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program, securing an additional $819,000 in illicit funds.

Arrested in France following a U.S request, Amachukwu was extradited to New York on Monday.

If found guilty, he could face several decades in prison on charges including conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, wire fraud and identity theft.

Anambra Agency Petitions Police Against APC For Breaching Campaign Rules

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has formally petitioned the Police against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate for violating the Out-Of-Home campaign regulations.

Dr. Tony Ujubuoñu, Managing Director of ANSAA, made the announcement during a press conference held in Awka on Tuesday.

DAILY GAZETTE recall that ANSAA had earlier set a ₦50 million approval fee for outdoor advertising and campaign activities ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

Dr. Ujubuoñu explained that these guidelines were introduced to promote orderliness, fairness, and aesthetic standards during the electioneering period.

He revealed that only five of the 16 registered political parties had complied by paying the required campaign fees.

Ujubuoñu added that on August 1, members of the ANSAA enforcement team were attacked by APC supporters while attempting to remove unauthorized outdoor campaign materials.

He emphasized that political parties are free to use alternative campaigning methods such as social media, radio, or television, as long as they adhere to established rules.

The agency issued two demand notices giving APC a two-week period to comply, followed by a legal reminder with an additional one-week deadline. However, these notices were disregarded.

“Despite not securing the mandatory campaign permit, APC has carried out unauthorized promotional activities including erecting posters, branding vehicles, hanging banners, and hosting events with promotional items,” Ujubuoñu stated.

He further noted that in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area, APC supporters obstructed ANSAA officials during their lawful operation and resorted to violence.

“ANSAA has officially reported the assault of our personnel in Nri to the Nigeria Police and will pursue all legal avenues to maintain the authority and integrity of our regulatory mandate,” he concluded.

Reports Of Mass Rape At Nasarawa Varsity Untrue – Police

The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially denied reports alleging that over 30 female students were sexually assaulted during a recent bandit attack at the Federal University, Lafia.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, described the allegations as baseless, emphasizing that thorough investigations revealed no evidence to support the claims.

“Claims that bandits entered the university and raped more than 30 female students are untrue,” Nansel stated.

He explained that the police engaged with the university’s Chief Security Officer, the information officer, and several students, none of whom corroborated the reports of sexual violence.

“We reached out to key university officials and students, all of whom denied any such incident occurred. If it had happened, students would have spoken out,” Nansel added.

While confirming that a robbery incident took place on July 27 in the student village, Nansel clarified that no sexual assault was reported.

During the robbery, a student named Jennifer had her phone, power bank, and handbag stolen, and a male student sustained injuries while fleeing.

“The only verified incident was the robbery. The suggestion that over 30 female students were raped is unfounded. If such a grave crime had occurred, it would not be concealed. We urge anyone with credible information to come forward,” he concluded.

Nenadi-Led Labour Party Faction Disowns Planned Protest At INEC Headquarters

The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has disassociated itself from a planned protest set to take place at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a statement released in Abuja late Tuesday, the Senior Special Adviser to the Interim National Chairman of the LP, Ken Asogwa, made it clear that the party has no knowledge of, nor involvement in, the protest.

He said: “The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to an invitation circulating in certain quarters regarding a purported protest scheduled to hold tomorrow, 6th August 2025, at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This protest is allegedly being organised by some unknown individuals purportedly operating under the banner of the Labour Party.”

The party leadership emphasized that it had not authorized any such activity.

“We wish to categorically state that the said protest is not sanctioned by the Labour Party. The organisers are unknown to the party’s leadership, and the action lacks the approval and backing of the party.”

“The public is hereby put on notice that anyone participating in or promoting this protest is doing so without the consent of the Labour Party and should be seen as an impostor.”

The LP also responded to a recent decision by INEC rejecting a list of candidates submitted by the Julius Abure-led faction, which it described as illegitimate.

“It would be recalled that INEC recently rejected the illegitimate list of candidates for the upcoming national bye-elections and local council elections submitted by the former chairman of the party, Barr. Julius Abure, and his unlawful group.”

“The Labour Party received that decision with relief, knowing that INEC – as a responsible electoral umpire – would eventually proceed to accept and publish the authentic list submitted by the current, lawful leadership of the party.”

The party urged INEC to remain resolute and follow through on the legal affirmation of its leadership by the Supreme Court.

“We urge INEC to remain steadfast and continue to disregard the desperate antics of these individuals whose tenures expired since 8th June 2023 – and whose expiration was expressly affirmed by the Supreme Court in its judgment of 4th April 2025.”

“While we await INEC’s timely action in publishing the valid list of candidates submitted by the legitimate party leadership, we also call on the Commission to give full effect to the said Supreme Court ruling by updating its official portal and other platforms to reflect the correct leadership of the Labour Party in line with the court’s judgment.”

The party concluded by calling on security agencies to take immediate action against those behind the protest.

“In light of the foregoing, we therefore call on all security agencies to take note: the persons planning to stage a protest at INEC headquarters on 6th August 2025 are not representatives of the Labour Party.
They are political impersonators and mischief-makers, and should be treated as such. We call for their immediate arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.”

Church Of Nigeria Cuts Ties With Church In Wales Over Appointment Of Lesbian Archbishop

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has officially ended all formal relations with the Church in Wales following the appointment of Bishop Cherry Vann, an openly lesbian cleric, as the 15th Archbishop of Wales.

The announcement was made by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, during the opening session of the 14th Conference of Chancellors, Registrars, and Legal Officers held at the Church’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

The conference, themed “Called as a Watchman,” gathered legal experts from across the Church to discuss issues of doctrine, justice, and governance.

In his keynote address titled “The Decade of the Reign of God: Progress, Challenges, and Prospects,” Primate Ndukuba denounced the Church in Wales’ decision, calling it “an abomination” and a clear deviation from biblical teachings.

“We reject the election of the Right Reverend Cherry Vann as the Archbishop of Wales,” he stated firmly.

Drawing parallels with the 2003 consecration of Gene Robinson by the Episcopal Church in the United States which similarly led to a break in ties, Ndukuba declared, “Just as the Church of Nigeria took steps after the election of Gene Robinson in the United States, we are severing every tie and relationship with the Church of Wales.”

He also expressed strong disapproval of what he termed the increasing spread of revisionist teachings within parts of the Western Church, warning that these “evil agendas” disguised as wisdom and culture are “an abomination to God.”

Despite cutting formal connections with the Church in Wales, the Church of Nigeria reaffirmed its solidarity with orthodox Anglicans in Wales through partnerships such as the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON).

“We pray that the Church of God in Wales will rise up, and that the faithful among them will stand strong. We, the Church of Nigeria, alongside GAFCON, will stand with them,” Ndukuba affirmed.

Looking forward, the Primate revealed plans for expanding the Church of Nigeria’s mission work globally, noting ongoing registrations in European countries including Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.

“We feel that the Lord is calling us back to Europe for mission,” he said.

He also highlighted the Church’s recent financial support for GAFCON initiatives, noting a contribution of $2.5 million to the GAFCON Endowment Fund and plans for a $2.3 million local Nigerian endowment to advance orthodox Anglican missions.

On legal and constitutional matters, Ndukuba urged church legal officers to strengthen reforms and engage in national advocacy.

“You are to understand yourselves to be watchmen for the Church. You defend the Church against all forms of aggression.”

“As modern-day watchmen, we must first listen to God, then speak His truth in love, knowing our duty lies in obedience,” he said, calling for support for constitutional review efforts and a new Nigerian Constitution.

Flooding: “Move Now, Relocate At Once”, Lagos Govt Warns Residents In Lekki, Ikorodu, Ajegunle

The Lagos State Government has issued a strong advisory urging residents in flood-prone areas such as Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ajegunle to immediately relocate from lowlands to higher ground as the state braces for more intense rainfall and flash flooding in 2025.

The warning was delivered by Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television on Tuesday, August 5.

“Those around the Ajilete axis of Lagos, that’s Ajegunle, they have to move. Those around the coastline of Ikorodu; Majidu, have to move. Some areas around the Lekki corridor, too, not all,” Wahab said.

He further emphasized that while certain areas are at risk, others remain relatively safe.

“Epe had always been safe, Mushin will be safe, Ikeja will be safe,” he added, also alerting residents in Isheri (OPIC area) to be cautious.

Wahab explained that Lagos, as a coastal city, is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, particularly flash floods resulting from heavy and prolonged rainfall.

“We won’t tell Lagosians lies. Lagos will be exposed to the vagaries of climate change, and that means Lagos will have flash flooding, but as a state, we have to provide resilient infrastructure, and we have to tell our people to be responsible,” he stated.

Referring to recent predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the commissioner noted that this year’s rainfall is expected to exceed that of 2024, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying parts of the state.

“For those who stay in the lowland of Lagos, they have to move to the upland pending when the rain recedes,” he advised.

His comments come in the wake of widespread flooding across Lagos earlier this week, after marathon rainfall that began on Sunday night and lasted until Monday evening, leaving streets submerged and disrupting economic activity.

Viral videos from affected communities showed homes and vehicles underwater, with residents wading through flooded streets caused by overflowing drainage systems and clogged canals.

Despite the challenges, Wahab assured the public that the state government is actively working to address the situation.

“If nature takes its course, what we can do is to mitigate its impact,” he said, noting that efforts are ongoing to clear drainage channels and expand flood pathways as part of long-term mitigation measures.

CHAN 2025: Nigeria Fall 1–0 To Senegal In Opening Group Match

Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to defending champions Senegal in their opening match of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday in Zanzibar.

The tightly contested encounter was decided in the 75th minute, when a defensive lapse allowed the Senegalese to score with what turned out to be their only shot on target.

Nigerian goalkeeper, Lawal Mustapha, was caught off his line during the build-up, and Senegal capitalized to take the lead at the Amaan Stadium.

Despite dominating possession for much of the game, Nigeria struggled to break through Senegal’s well-organised defensive line.

The match was played at a fast pace, with both teams matching each other in physicality and tactical discipline.

Mustapha had earlier made a crucial save in the 21st minute, reacting quickly to a dangerous cross from the left.

Senegal nearly extended their lead in the 33rd minute with a threatening set piece.

On Nigeria’s end, midfielders Tochukwu Michael and Olamilekan Adedayo worked hard to control play, while defenders Leonard Ngenge and captain Junior Nduka stood solid at the back.

However, despite sustained pressure and possession, the Nigerian side failed to convert their efforts into clear scoring opportunities.

Senegal came close to a second goal late in the match, but Ngenge and Nduka combined well to clear the danger.

The loss leaves Nigeria bottom of Group D with zero points, following the 1–1 draw earlier in the day between Congo and Sudan.

The Super Eagles will look to bounce back in their second group match against Sudan next Tuesday, also in Zanzibar.

Peter Obi Stingy To A Fault, Can’t Win Any Primary – Arabambi

The Labour Party (LP) has accused its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of bypassing party structures and showing a lack of financial transparency during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arambri, alleged that Obi operated independently, making key campaign decisions and managing funds without involving the party’s leadership.

“Peter Obi did not give the Labour Party or any of its candidates a single kobo after his nomination,” Arambri said.

“He told us ‘we don’t spend shishi,’ yet claimed to have spent ₦800 million on litigation. I challenge him to prove it.”

He added that while Obi had spent ₦32 million on nomination processes upon joining the party, there was no subsequent financial contribution to the party’s broader campaign activities or support for its candidates.

Arambri went further, alleging that Obi and two unnamed associates opened multiple bank accounts to manage campaign funds without informing the party.

“We know the banks and the account numbers. They went ahead and opened four different accounts before informing the party. How do you run a political campaign like that?” he questioned.

He also revealed that the party was only contacted for a letter of introduction after the accounts had already been set up, suggesting deliberate efforts to exclude the official LP structure from financial matters.

Commenting on the internal party crisis between the Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa factions, Arambri accused Obi of siding with individuals who he claimed had “rigged out the party from within.”

On election day logistics, Arambri blamed Obi’s team for failing to deploy agents to most polling units, leaving the party without the data needed to support its post-election legal claims.

“He went to court without results from most polling units because agents were not paid,” he said, adding that only 54,000 agents were deployed out of the required 199,000.

Reacting to reports that Obi had made donations worth over ₦600 million to churches and other institutions, Arambri expressed skepticism.

“Obi’s people say he donated over ₦600 million in one year. Where is the evidence? The party never received such funds. This is the man who wants to govern Nigeria? There’s no transparency. No accountability,” he said.

Northerners Failed Themselves, Our Woes Self-Inflicted, A Result Of Terrible Leadership – Shehu Sani Insists

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has said that the North’s lingering issues of poverty, insecurity, and decaying infrastructure are not the fault of President Bola Tinubu but rather the result of decades of failed leadership by past Northern leaders.

Speaking at his residence in Kaduna on Tuesday while receiving members of the Tijjaniyya Grassroots Mobilisation and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria (TIGMEIN), Sani criticized Northern elites for squandering opportunities and mismanaging the region’s resources.

“We had Buhari in power for eight years, yet the North remained impoverished,” he said, referencing the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also lamented the collapse of major industries that once contributed to Northern Nigeria’s economy.

“Industries like KTL, UNTL, Nortex, Arewa Textiles, and others were abandoned. Our leaders chased personal gains, not the people’s progress,” Sani added.

The former lawmaker strongly opposed attempts to shift blame for the North’s problems onto President Tinubu, who has only been in office for two years.

“The North’s problems didn’t begin two years ago. Former leaders had the chance to fix education, healthcare, and security, but they failed. Today, they want to deceive you that Tinubu is your problem. Ask yourself, did bad hospitals, failed roads, and insecurity start in the last 24 months?” he challenged.

Sani pointed to several long-abandoned projects including the Kaduna–Abuja Road, Minna–Abuja Road, Lokoja–Abuja Expressway, Ajaokuta Steel Company, and the Mambilla Power Project, as evidence of neglect and betrayal by those who once held power in the region.

Warning against recycling such leadership, he said: “No matter how bad things may seem now, know this, your brothers from the North failed you. If they return to power, nothing will change.”

He concluded by praising TIGMEIN’s grassroots development initiatives, particularly its focus on youth and women empowerment.

Sani described the group’s efforts to equip vulnerable populations with vocational skills as a “meaningful approach to tackling poverty and fostering peace.”

NCAA Suspends Two ValueJet Pilots Over Safety Violation At Abuja Airport

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced the suspension of two ValueJet pilots over a serious breach of aviation safety protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident involved the flight crew initiating departure procedures from their designated bay without following the required pre-departure clearance, a move deemed highly reckless by the regulatory authority.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the authority confirmed it had received reports of the violation.

“The pilot commenced departure procedures from the designated bay without adhering to the mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols,” Achimugu stated.

He added that the move endangered not only airport ground personnel but also other users within the vicinity of the airport.

“This reckless action endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards,” he noted.

Describing the matter as extremely serious, the NCAA said it had taken swift enforcement action against those involved.

“Consequently, the Authority has taken immediate enforcement action by suspending the licences of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The suspension, according to the NCAA, will remain in place pending the outcome of a full investigation into the incident.

To reassure the flying public and stakeholders, the NCAA emphasized its unwavering commitment to aviation safety.

“The Authority hereby reaffirms all stakeholders of its commitment to safety,” Achimugu concluded.

The aviation regulator reiterated that violations of safety protocols will not be tolerated, regardless of the individuals or airlines involved.
