Nigerian Boarding Schools Worse Than Prisons – KlintonCod Backs Kemi Badenoch

UK-based Nigerian comedian KlintonCod has come out in support of British Conservative MP Kemi Badenoch following backlash over her comments describing her boarding school experience in Nigeria as traumatic and “like a prison.”

Badenoch, who recently revealed she no longer identifies as Nigerian, faced heavy criticism after sharing her experience at a boarding school in Sagamu during a podcast interview.

Many Nigerians accused her of exaggerating and being disrespectful to her roots.

But in a social media post, KlintonCod defended Badenoch, drawing parallels with his own experience at a boys-only boarding school in Nigeria.

“It was like a prison too with huge walls around us properly secured. The difference between us and prisoners was the fact that we had mid-term breaks and holidays. Every other thing was the same!” he wrote.

The comedian went further to say that some UK prisons he had visited in the course of his work were in better condition than his former school.

“I have never been to a Nigerian prison but… those guys [in UK prisons] had a far better quality of life than my life in boarding school,” he added.

KlintonCod also recalled violent incidents during his time in school, including the use of machetes and axes during student clashes. He criticized the toxic culture of seniority, which often involved physical abuse.

“Somebody in SS3 is using a cutlass to flog you in SS1 because he is your senior,” he said, adding that items sent from home were frequently seized by senior students.

Responding to the backlash Badenoch has faced, KlintonCod attributed it to what he called her “blunt honesty.”

“I am yet to find one solid & justifiable reason why Nigerians dislike Kemi Badenoch. Only reason seen so far is she is TOO honest,” he stated.

He ended his remarks with a humorous proposal that Kemi Badenoch should run alongside Nigerian politician Peter Obi in a future election.

“The country go sweet dieeeee,” he wrote.

During the original podcast interview, Badenoch revealed she was born in the UK but spent part of her childhood in Nigeria.

She disclosed that she has not renewed her Nigerian passport since the early 2000s, saying she feels more aligned with British identity.

According to her, her parents decided to send her back to the UK at age 16 after concluding there was “no future” for her in Nigeria.

WAEC Denies Cancelling 2025 WASSCE Results, Says Reports Misleading

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked circulating claims that the results of some schools from the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been cancelled.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Moyosola Adesina, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, described the viral messages as entirely false and without any basis from credible sources.

“Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled,” Adesina advised.

She also refuted the claim that WAEC had requested some examination centres to submit candidates’ scripts directly to its offices.

“WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office; all scripts remain under strict custody throughout the marking and investigation process,” she clarified.

Adesina further urged candidates, parents, and school officials to be cautious and to verify information before acting on it.

She warned against relying on social media or unverified platforms for news concerning WAEC examinations.

“Do not accept any message that is not on our handles and accredited media,” she said.

WAEC stressed that all public announcements are made only via its verified social media pages and accredited news outlets.

“WAEC is calling on the public to stay informed through trusted sources,” Adesina added.

Reaffirming the Council’s commitment to due process and transparency, WAEC encouraged the public to report suspicious messages or misleading sources.

The body also assured candidates awaiting their results that any delays or ongoing investigations are being managed with fairness and professionalism.

WAEC Attributes 2025 WASSCE Performance Drop To Anti-Malpractice Measures

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a significant drop in candidates’ performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), linking it to newly implemented anti-examination malpractice strategies.

At a press briefing held in Lagos, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, WAEC’s Head of National Office, stated that only 38.32% of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the exam obtained credits and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

This represents a sharp 33.8% drop from the 72.12% success rate recorded in 2024.

“The drop in performance can be attributed to new anti-malpractice measures, including the serialisation of objective papers in key subjects, which made collusion and cheating more difficult,” Dangut explained.

He revealed that 1,517,517 results (77.06%) have been fully processed and released, while 22.94% (451,796 results) are still being processed due to administrative or technical challenges.

A gender breakdown of the 754,545 candidates who passed five subjects, including English and Mathematics, showed females slightly outperforming males.

Of the total, 407,353 (53.99%) were female, and 347,192 (46.01%) were male.

Meanwhile, 87.24% (1,718,090 candidates) obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, irrespective of whether they included English and Mathematics.

On exam integrity, Dangut revealed that results of 192,089 candidates (9.75%) are being withheld due to alleged involvement in malpractice, a decline from the 11.92% withheld in 2024.

A total of 12,178 special needs candidates also participated in the examination, including visually impaired, hearing-impaired, and physically or mentally challenged students.

Their results were processed alongside those of other candidates.

WAEC used the briefing to reiterate its commitment to fully adopting Computer-Based Testing (CBT) by 2026, in alignment with a directive from the Federal Government.

“The Council is concluding arrangements for the total conduct of Computer-Based WASSCE for School Candidates in 2026,” Dangut said.

He noted that in 2025, candidates had the choice between the traditional paper format and a hybrid CBT model where questions were displayed on a screen while answers were written in booklets. By 2026, all school candidates will sit the exam entirely on computers.

Addressing another concern, Dangut cautioned that students sponsored by indebted state governments will not be able to access their results until the outstanding payments are cleared.

“We appeal to concerned state governments to settle their debts so affected candidates are not denied access to their results,” he urged.

WAEC also unveiled several digital tools and platforms designed to improve access, transparency, and efficiency in the examination process. These include:

WAEC E-Study platform (digital access to past questions)

WAECKonnect app (revision tools, updates, and an AI assistant)

Real-time digital scoring during marking coordination

Digital certificates accessible within 48 hours of result release

“Our goal is to make examinations more accessible, credible, and transparent. We urge all stakeholders, schools, candidates, parents, and the media to join us in preparing for this digital future,” Dangut concluded.

2027: Obi’s One-Term Promise Deceitful, Shouldn’t Be Trusted – Arabambi

A leading figure in the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has cast doubt on Peter Obi’s recent pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, warning Nigerians not to take the former Anambra State governor at his word.

Speaking during an interview on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Arabambi questioned Obi’s political integrity, using his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a key example of broken promises.

“So, we are not going to trust him,” Arabambi said on the programme.

“So, Peter Obi cannot be telling Nigerians, ‘Oh don’t worry, I will do a single term’ when ab initio with his own mouth, he said he would stay in APGA; he is not going to leave,” added the LP’s factional national publicity secretary.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election with over six million votes, has in recent weeks reaffirmed his commitment to a single-term presidency, if given the mandate in 2027.

“In my political life, my word is my bond… My vow to serve only one term of four years is a solemn commitment, rooted in my conviction that purposeful, transparent leadership does not require an eternity,” Obi tweeted on Sunday.

However, Arabambi dismissed this statement as unreliable, arguing that Obi benefitted from the youth-led frustration with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than from any strong party structure or ideology.

He also accused Obi of not contributing financially to the Labour Party’s activities during the last election.

“No kobo of Peter Obi entered the party,” Arabambi claimed, asserting that the LP “made” Obi, not the other way around.

Meanwhile, Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has spoken out in defense of Obi, reaffirming her belief in his sincerity and vision for the country.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Amazing Africans, Chimamanda emphasized that Obi is not driven by desperation, but by a genuine desire to serve.

“He (Obi) doesn’t need to be president. He wants to be because he cares about Nigeria, but he doesn’t need to be. And that is a very important distinction,” she said.

She contrasted Obi with other politicians whom she described as power-hungry.

“There are people who are desperate to become president, not because they have any good intentions for the country, but because of their egos.”

The award-winning author also praised Obi’s approach to leadership.

“Peter Obi is not a person who expects you to thank him for doing his job as a leader, because to him it’s his job,” she noted.

“There’s a sense, I think, in Peter Obi that he’s accountable to the people. He doesn’t think that somehow he will lord it over people.”

20 Women Abducted By Bandits In Zamfara’s Latest Attack

A fresh wave of violence has hit Zamfara State as armed bandits abducted at least 20 women and girls in Moriki town, located in Zurmi Local Government Area.

According to residents, the victims were taken on Saturday while they were out gathering firewood on the outskirts of the community.

“The abduction actually happened on Saturday, they went out to fetch firewood at the outskirts of the town when they were kidnapped by the armed group,” said Sufyanu Moriki, a resident who spoke to Channels Television.

So far, the kidnappers have not reached out to families or community members with any ransom demands.

The Zamfara State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident. When contacted, police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar stated he had not received any official briefing.

“I’m yet to be informed about the incident,” he said, adding that he would follow up and provide updates once more information becomes available.

This latest attack is part of an alarming pattern of violence that has continued to destabilize Zamfara and other parts of northwest Nigeria.

Originally stemming from disputes between herders and farmers over land and water, the conflict has evolved into a full-scale criminal enterprise involving mass kidnappings, extortion, and rural terror.

These attacks have not only displaced thousands but have also worsened food insecurity in the region, as fear and violence force farmers to abandon their lands.

Climate change and reduced international aid have only deepened the crisis.

Last month, bandits in Zamfara reportedly killed 33 of their earlier kidnapping victims, despite collecting a ransom of $33,700.

Three infants held in captivity also died due to poor conditions, according to officials and residents.

The situation in the northwest has been compounded by growing collaboration between criminal gangs and jihadist groups, particularly with the emergence of the Lakurawa jihadist faction in the region.

These alliances have made the violence more deadly and widespread.

Since 2011, as arms trafficking surged across the Sahel, armed groups in northern Nigeria have increasingly turned to cattle rustling, extortion, and abductions for ransom.

Many now impose taxes on farmers and artisanal miners, acting as de facto rulers in areas where state authority is virtually absent.

Two weeks ago, the Nigerian military reported killing at least 95 armed gang members in Niger State during a series of airstrikes and ground operations.

However, the military remains overstretched, and analysts warn that despite improved coordination between army and air force units, airstrikes have often resulted in civilian casualties.

Resign If You Can’t Tackle Insecurity In Zamfara – ADC To Gov Lawal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong warning to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, urging him to step down if he is unable to address the deepening security crisis plaguing the state.

Alhaji Kabiru Garba, the party’s chairman in Zamfara, made this call on Monday during the ADC’s “Hand Shake Day” event held at Maryam Hall in the state capital, Gusau.

Garba expressed serious concern over the unrelenting banditry and violent attacks in the state, accusing Governor Lawal of failing in his primary duty to safeguard lives and property.

“It is high time the Governor provided a lasting solution to the insecurity bedeviling the state. Otherwise, he should resign,” he declared.

The ADC leader further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent and effective measures to combat the worsening security challenges not just in Zamfara, but across the country.

He also suggested that the Zamfara government consider negotiating with armed groups if that could help restore peace and stability.

“We condemn the incessant attacks on our people and urge the government to take decisive steps. Let them talk to the bandits if that’s what will bring peace,” Garba added.

He lamented that many residents of the state were growing increasingly disillusioned with the current administration and now see the ADC as a more promising alternative.

According to him, the party has recorded impressive growth in Zamfara, with tens of thousands of new members joining its ranks.

“We have registered no fewer than 75,000 new members. The people of Zamfara have seen a brighter future in ADC,” he revealed.

“God willing, we are ready to rescue the state and Nigeria at large come 2027,” he stated confidently.

Police, CJTF Ambush Bandits In Zamfara, Kill Eight

Security forces in Zamfara State have successfully repelled a planned bandit attack, killing eight assailants in a gun battle in Fegin Kanawa village, located in the Wonaka District of Gusau Local Council.

The operation, which involved a joint team of Nigeria Police operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) from Fegin Mahe village, was launched in response to credible intelligence about the movement of armed bandits in the area.

According to a report from the Officer-in-Charge of the Tactical Zonal Force Squad (ZFS), the security team walked into an ambush laid by the criminals, who had taken strategic positions ahead of the confrontation.

A fierce exchange of gunfire followed, resulting in the deaths of eight bandits.

Several others reportedly escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds.

During the operation, Inspector Tasi’u Lawali of the 42 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Gusau sustained gunshot injuries to his hand and mouth.

He was quickly evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gusau, where he is currently receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition.

In the aftermath of the ambush, police authorities launched a manhunt for the fleeing attackers, with ongoing search operations in nearby forests and hideouts.

Meanwhile, in Gwoza Local Council of Borno State, Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have made significant progress in counter-insurgency efforts, recovering and safely detonating 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the IEDs were discovered during intensified clearance operations in Bitta and nearby communities.

The explosives were believed to have been planted by terrorists targeting both civilians and security personnel.

Sources noted that the devices were strategically buried along commonly used footpaths, farmland trails, and key access roads posing serious threats to local farmers and military operations.

Specialist teams handled the safe detonation, while clearance efforts continue to secure the area from further threats.
