Gov. Eno Directs APC Members To Revalidate Registration At Ward Level

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has ordered all APC members in the state to return to their respective wards for a membership revalidation exercise beginning August 4, 2025.

Announcing the initiative during his inaugural visit to the party secretariat in Uyo, Eno disclosed that registers will be distributed through ward chairmen, with the exercise set to run for approximately one month.

“A register will be sent to all the wards through the ward chairmen, and the exercise will commence on August 4, 2025, and will last for about a month to give room to all interested persons to register.”

He emphasized the importance of participation regardless of status. The process will be followed by digital capturing by the national secretariat.

“The membership registration was very essential to ascertain the actual members of the party … everyone, irrespective of his or her status, should take part in the process, which will be followed by a digital capturing by the national secretariat of the party.”

Eno also announced a forthcoming Federal Government empowerment initiative, allocating benefits on a one-per-ward basis.

He said “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for this country. Some of us know what he went through when he took over and today, two years after, things are stabilising.”

“We need to support him. We believe that he is stabilising the economy. As a governor, we can tell you that he is releasing money for the state, that’s why we are doing projects, not owing contractors and paying gratuities.”

Eno expressed appreciation to party members for their support, reaffirming his commitment to the “ARISE Agenda” and progress made over the past two years:

“Today, we have come as part of our familiarisation with the party office. We started with the party structure. We met with the stakeholders. We are now at the party office to pay respect to the party because party is supreme.”

“To all of you that have given us the support to have transitioned easily, I am here today to thank those who have believed in good governance, who have believed in the ARISE Agenda and all of the little progress we have been able to make in the last two years.”

As part of the visit, the governor inaugurated a 10-member committee tasked with securing land and funds to deliver a suitable APC secretariat for Akwa Ibom.

“Once I Was Blind, Now I See” – Dino Melaye Regrets Backing APC

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has publicly admitted that his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a profound mistake. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he declared “Once I was blind, now I can see. I regret in totality.”

Melaye, who joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on July 31 after resigning from the PDP, likened his past political alignment to an “unholy tendency.”

“Just like you confess your sins daily in the Lord’s prayer, I ask for forgiveness. Anyone who has moved with the devil, anyone who has aligned with an unholy tendency, should regret it.”

He condemned the APC-led administration for driving Nigeria into economic hardship, describing the situation as both visible and unbearable:

“You don’t need a prophet to tell you what is happening in this country. It is visible even to the blind and audible to the deaf.”

“The hunger in the land is shattered. People are dying of malnutrition in rural communities.”

Melaye went further to warn “Take a trip today to your village and just announce that you want to share two bags of rice. If you are not careful, there will be dead casualties from the struggle to get something.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 election, Melaye expressed confidence that the ADC will present a credible alternative, capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu:

“Especially those of us in the ADC, we need to create a comfortable, stable platform. I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027.”

When asked about supporting any presidential hopeful such as Atiku Abubakar, Melaye remained cautious:

“I will not be talking about a presidential candidate or preference for anybody until we get the party completely stabilised and organise a transparently honest convention.”

He nevertheless commended Atiku “What Atiku is doing is rescuing this country, bringing together men of honour and valour to correct and palliate the satanic manifestation of the APC.”

Melaye asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been compromised by the APC:

“PDP has been purchased by APC. PDP is a parastatal of the APC. PDP is a department of the APC. In fact, they take dates for NEC meetings and dates for when to have NWC from the [Presidential] Villa.”

Criticizing PDP governors, he questioned “Are these governors acting like opposition governors? Are they playing opposition roles as governors? Those who remain in the PDP are holding fort for the APC.”

Okiro Refutes Allegations Of Overstepping IGP’s Authority

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, has firmly denied allegations suggesting he is attempting to take over the duties of the current IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Supreme Ibitomi, Okiro addressed what he called baseless accusations.

“Our attention has been drawn to publications in some quarters claiming that Okiro is usurping the powers of the current Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun,” the statement began.

“We categorically state that these claims are entirely false. It is unfortunate that some individuals will resort to spreading falsehoods to tarnish the reputation of a respected figure like Okiro,” it added.

Okiro clarified that a recent meeting of retired Inspectors General of Police had sparked the speculation. He explained that the gathering was convened to deliberate on the compulsory retirement of some senior officers.

“Egbetokun is an intelligent, well-educated and experienced police officer who does not require external influence to carry out his constitutional duty as the head of the country’s police force,” Okiro stated.

He emphasized that he only served as the appointed head of the forum and not in any personal capacity trying to interfere with police leadership.

“We are convinced that this publication emanates from a group of people who are not concerned about the plight of these retired police officers,” he noted.

According to Okiro, the forum’s goal remains the welfare of police officers and ensuring the institution’s integrity.

“We will not be swayed by malicious propaganda. Our focus remains on ensuring that the rights and dignity of both serving and retired police officers are protected and respected.”

“The publication will not intimidate or stampede the forum into abandoning its commitment to the welfare of these officers; rather, it will galvanise our resolve to pursue justice and fairness for all,” he declared.

He also called on the general public to ignore what he described as misleading reports and instead shift attention to the real challenges facing the force.

“The forum will continue to contribute to the growth and development of the Nigeria Police Force.
We call on well-meaning Nigerians to support our efforts in promoting the welfare of police officers and advancing the cause of justice and security in our country,” Okiro concluded.

Youth Leaders From 17 Southern States Demand Nnamdi Kanu’s Unconditional Release

The Supreme Council of Southern Nigerian Youths Leaders has issued a strong call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the immediate and unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of their three-day Inaugural Strategic Meeting in Onitsha, Anambra State, the youth leaders also urged the Federal Government to establish a Special National Ethnic Communities Peace and Development Commission to address long-standing grievances across various ethnic groups in Nigeria.

They stressed the need for the Tinubu-led administration to urgently address rising insecurity in the southern region, warning that the South has “had enough” and would no longer tolerate the persistent threats to its safety and development.

According to the group, “While we call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the establishment of Special National Ethnic Communities Peace and Development Commission, and tackling the escalating issues of insecurity within Southern Nigeria headlong, we unanimously reiterate our commitment to the unity of Nigeria without compromise.”

Mr. Arthur Obiora, President of the Supreme Council of Southern Nigerian Youths Leaders, made the remarks during a press briefing.

Surrounded by youth leaders from all 17 Southern states, Obiora said the meeting was a deliberate effort to build a strong, unified platform among Southern Nigerian youths.

The gathering, he added, marks the beginning of a broader consciousness and mobilization to demand policy reforms, infrastructure development, and increased investment in human capital across the South.

The group highlighted the ongoing ethnic, religious, and political divisions among southern youths, noting that real progress will remain elusive without deliberate efforts to bridge those gaps.

“We observe in the light of our extensive deliberations, retrospection and consultations with key stakeholders within Southern Nigeria, that the youth within our region have remained divided along ethnic, religious and party lines, and unless concerted effort is made to mitigate such divides, there won’t be meaningful region-based progress,” the statement noted.

They emphasized the need for a unified youth front, citing the vast contributions of young people to the Southern region’s population and workforce.

“The unity of Southern Nigeria youths has become paramount and imperative in order to speak with one voice to get rid of the penchant for government at all levels in Southern Nigeria to scheming the youths and their leaders out of the value equation.”

“The youths constitute over sixty per cent of the entire population of Southern Nigeria, and also provide over seventy per cent workforce of the region, therefore, the government of President Tinubu should provide a rare opportunity for strategic integration of the youths into the scheme of things within the polity.”

The council further expressed a willingness to work with Southern political leaders to foster regional unity and development.

“We believe that for the Nigerian Federation to thrive politically, economically and otherwise, equity and fairness should be strictly encouraged. We also resolve to strategically partner with all political leaders within Southern Nigeria to foster regional cohesion.”

Despite their demands, the youth group affirmed its support for President Tinubu’s administration.

“Southern Nigerian youths have resolved to continue to support the present administration of the Federal Government, led by His Excellency, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, as constitutionally mandated.”

In conclusion, the council called on all youth-led organizations across the South to join forces under its umbrella for a unified and impactful regional voice.

“We call on the youth-based organisations within Southern Nigeria, to, as a matter of regional urgency, partner with the Supreme Council of Southern Nigerian Youths Leaders, in order to raise a strong voice for the region and the youth in particular.”

Dangote Refinery Appoints David Bird As CEO

The Dangote Group has appointed David Bird, the former CEO of Oman’s Duqm Refinery, as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Petroleum and Petrochemicals division.

The move is seen as a strategic effort to tackle ongoing operational issues and drive the next phase of growth for the multi-billion-dollar oil business.

Bird officially stepped into the role in July 2025, taking over the leadership of the fuels and petrochemicals business unit, which includes the Lagos-based 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, the largest single-train facility in the world, launched in 2024.

While Aliko Dangote retains his role as Chairman of the refinery and CEO of the wider Dangote Group, the appointment of Bird brings a seasoned refinery expert into the daily operations.

Bird is well known for his tenure at OQ8, where he led the expansion and crude diversification strategy of the Duqm Refinery prior to its test runs in 2023.

According to S&P Global, Bird’s arrival comes at a critical juncture for the refinery, which has experienced a rocky ramp-up due to technical challenges, design flaws, and regulatory bottlenecks.

In a statement shared with Platts (S&P Global Commodity Insights), Bird emphasized his focus on increasing operational efficiency and expanding the refinery’s reach beyond Nigeria.

He also shared via LinkedIn that his priorities include optimizing output and positioning Dangote Refinery as a global player in the refining industry.

Despite its ambitious scale, the Lagos refinery has faced several setbacks since its commissioning in January 2024.

These include unreliable supplies of Nigerian-grade crude, prompting a shift toward more flexible feedstock sourcing.

The facility has nonetheless played a pivotal role in reducing Nigeria’s dependency on imported gasoline.

Aliko Dangote has repeatedly criticized what he describes as “rent-seeking” trade practices and the influx of sub-standard fuel imports, which he says have slowed the refinery’s progress.

In line with Bird’s strategy, the company is now focusing on trading performance, maximum plant utilization and crude flexibility approaches that align with its evolving supply challenges.

Though aiming for broader international reach, the refinery is still bound by a naira-denominated supply agreement that obliges it to deliver petroleum products to Nigeria’s domestic market via the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), which holds a 7.2% equity stake in the project.

Looking ahead, Dangote Group plans to increase the refinery’s capacity to 700,000 barrels per day, boost port infrastructure, and set up international storage depots in markets such as Namibia.

August 2025 will also mark the launch of its own distribution business, featuring a fleet of 4,000 CNG-powered trucks aimed at improving last-mile delivery.

The company further confirmed it is preparing to list the refinery on the London and Lagos stock exchanges, a move expected to attract international investors and solidify its position as a major player in the global energy sector.

Tinubu Has Demonstrated Capacity In Governance, Says Anambra APC Gov’ship Candidate

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing “capacity in governance,” asserting that Nigeria is beginning to see positive changes under his leadership.

Speaking with reporters in Awka on Wednesday, Ukachukwu stated that the APC’s policies at the national level would be mirrored in Anambra if the party emerges victorious in the November 8 gubernatorial election.

“President Tinubu has shown capacity in governance. Things are beginning to fall into place. The attacks by the opposition will not take them anywhere,” he said.

Ukachukwu criticised opposition voices, accusing them of lacking the foresight that Tinubu has brought to national leadership.

“The opposition who are criticising the APC administration of Tinubu do not have the vision he has brought into governance. He is using his policies to show the light for Nigeria.”

Turning his attention to the security challenges in Anambra State, Ukachukwu decried the rising cases of kidnapping and killings, attributing part of the insecurity to the alleged activities of armed groups associated with the state government.

He vowed that if APC wins, the influence of such groups would be dismantled and replaced by the appropriate security structures.

“Those Agunechemba, Ndi Aka Odo, Operation Udo Ga Achi will not come out during the election, I assure you that. The only security that will be out that day are the Police, Military, DSS etc., and not vigilante. They will not have any place to operate that day.”

He further assured that under an APC-led government, such outfits would be disbanded entirely.

“If APC wins the governorship election, Ndi Aka Odo that have been disfiguring young men in this state will be dismantled because they are evil.”

Nigerian Army Donates Borehole For Water‑Starved Enugu Community

The Nigerian Army has installed and handed over an industrial-grade water borehole to the Ohodo community in Igbo‑Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State, to address chronic water shortages.

During the commissioning ceremony on Saturday, Lieutenant‑General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), represented by Major‑General Oluyemi Olatoye, General Officer Commanding 82 Division described the water project as a high-impact initiative designed to “give back to the society”.

The project was dedicated to Major‑General Patrick Eze (retired), former Commandant of the Nigerian Army Ordnance School, in recognition of his distinguished service.

According to the COAS, the initiative falls under the COAS Special Intervention Civil–Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Projects, which support communities linked to retired senior officers.

“The idea of Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil‑Military‑Cooperation Projects was conceived as part of efforts to support the communities of Nigerian Army senior officers… what concept of the COAS Special Intervention Projects is to give back to the people as essential partners in progress and we have over 200 projects scattered all over the country done with consultation with the communities.”

“The top notch basic amenities are provided to complement rural development efforts… serve to bring solutions to pressing needs, ameliorate hardship and enhance the people’s quality of life.”

Earlier at the event, the Chief of Civil–Military Affairs, Major‑General Gold Chibuisi, emphasized that the borehole aims to deliver reliable drinking and domestic water to Ohodo residents.

“This project was executed by Major‑General P.I. Eze (retired). It has a 30 KVA sound‑proof generator, electricity supply, solar‑powered security lighting, solar‑powered digitalised security surveillance cameras, overhead tankers and multiple dispensers, among others.”

Speaking afterwards, Major‑General Eze expressed gratitude to the COAS for sanctioning and funding the project.

He highlighted that the community previously relied on privately bought tanker water, paying ₦50,000 for 1,000 litres during the dry season.

“The situation was so bad that during the dry season my community people buy 1,000 litres of tanker water for N50,000.”

Traditional ruler Igwe Hycient Eze also voiced appreciation, welcoming the “high‑impact project” and pledging full community protection for the facility.

“We appreciate the Nigerian Army coming to bring a solution to the age‑long challenge of our community, as we bear great financial burden to get water.”

A local indigene, Mr. Nicholas Agbo, described the Army as the community’s “only messiah,” acknowledging the relief the borehole brings.

The inauguration concluded with the COAS symbolically handing over the keys to the facility to the traditional ruler.

The event also included a donation of relief items to community widows by Mrs. Regina Eze, wife of Major‑General Eze.

Son To Leave Tottenham After A Decade

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has announced that he will be leaving the North London club this summer, ending a remarkable 10-year spell.

The 33-year-old forward, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, has become one of the club’s most iconic players, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances.

His time at the club was capped by leading Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years, captaining the side in their Europa League final victory over Manchester United in May.

Despite being under contract until 2026, Son is currently in advanced talks with MLS club Los Angeles FC, where he is expected to continue his career.

Speaking to the media alongside newly appointed manager Thomas Frank, Son admitted that the decision to leave was far from easy.

“This is the most difficult one I have made in my career,” Son said.

“I came to north London as a kid – a very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn’t speak English.”

“Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment.”

Tottenham are currently in Seoul, South Korea, for pre-season preparations, and Son is set to captain the side in a friendly match against Newcastle United on Sunday.

That game could mark his final appearance for Spurs, fittingly taking place in front of his home fans.

Manager Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June, paid glowing tribute to Son’s impact on the club and the Premier League.

“Son is a true Spurs legend,” Frank said.
“One of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.”

“If that is the last game for Sonny, what a place to do it here in front of his home fans. It could be a beautiful ending.”

Although Spurs are scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, it remains uncertain whether Son will still be with the club by then.
