BREAKING: Labor Party’s Anthony Albanese Wins Re-Election As Australian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a second term in office following Australia’s federal election, with preliminary counts indicating a nationwide shift in favor of his Australian Labor Party.

However, whether Labor will govern with a clear majority remains uncertain, according to local media reports.

Early tallies point to a decline in support for the opposition Liberal-National Coalition, led by Peter Dutton, as voters appear to have backed Labor across several key electorates.

The results highlight a continuing appetite for the progressive platform Albanese has championed since taking office.

As counting continues, attention also turns to voter mood, key seat turnovers, and of course, Australia’s unique tradition of the “democracy sausage”, a beloved election-day staple.

Stay tuned as we unpack the evolving results..

A prosecution witness, codenamed PW-AAA, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday that Simon Ekpa, a known supporter of Nnamdi Kanu and the Biafra agitation, will soon be repatriated from Finland to face trial in Nigeria.

PW-AAA, identified as an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) and one of those involved in the 2015 arrest of Kanu at a Lagos hotel, testified before Justice James Omotosho during the ongoing trial of the IPOB leader.

The witness’s identity was withheld for security reasons and he gave his testimony under cross-examination by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, who is representing Kanu in the matter.

In the course of proceedings, the Federal Government presented additional items allegedly recovered from Kanu.

These were admitted as court exhibits and include “one black laptop, two multi-mix transmitters, one mini white Apple iPad with a pouch, one grey Apple iPad with a pouch, one grey MacBook with a pouch, one grey MacBook with the case, one mini drone sound wave speaker, and two mini white speakers.”

Also submitted were “one large computer mouse, one white adaptor, one laptop adaptor and one carton bag with laptop, two 3G modems, two Glo modems, one Glo Hawaii modem, one MTN modem, one Etisalat modem, one flash drive and one camcorder.”

The witness listed other items as “a bunch of cards, one power adaptor for the mixer, one Easy Blaze white modem, one Samsung phone, 1 black Motorola phone and one Nokia phone.”

More possessions allegedly found on Kanu include: “one black Samsung phone, one black phone, 1 D-Link black modem, one 8GB flash drive, one extension wire adaptor, one pair of shoes, one belt, one pair of ciderwood sneakers and one footwear.”

He continued, “One black Softech wristwatch, two singlets, one sealed Hermes perfume, one Trinket, one Pokham perfume, one Fredrick Peckham wristwatch, one Diesel wristwatch, one Alexander Christy collection wristwatch, one Club wristwatch.”

“Others are a bank MasterCards, copies of documents, one copy of IPOB complementary card, documents tagged IPOB, one white clipper, one bottle of medicine, one Oman perfume, one Mini scented oils, one empty black purse.”

Under cross-examination, PW-AAA confirmed that no weapons were found on Kanu at the point of his arrest.

He also stated that the female companion arrested alongside Kanu was not found in possession of any arms.

He added, “though the recovered items might not be ordinarily offensive, the intention of the defendant might be otherwise.”

PW-AAA concluded that his role in the operation did not include analyzing the seized items. “My mandate was to effect the arrest and obtain a statement from Kanu,” he said.

Justice Omotosho subsequently adjourned the case to May 6, 7, and 8 for continuation of cross-examination.

Resemblance Between My Late Child, Ifeanyi And My New Son Scary – Davido

Popular Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about the striking resemblance between his late son, Ifeanyi, and his newborn son, describing it as “scary.”

In a conversation with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido reflected on the loss of his son Ifeanyi, who tragically drowned in a pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence on November 1, 2022.

Following the incident, Davido revealed he secretly tied the knot with Chioma, his longtime partner.

Nearly a year later, in October 2023, the couple welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, and later held an elaborate wedding ceremony in June 2024.

The singer shared his emotional reaction to the appearance of his newborn son, saying, “And, the boy looks just like my son (Ifeanyi) that passed. It is scary. It’s like literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back’ type stuff.”

Davido also spoke about the immense grief he faced after losing Ifeanyi and how it prompted him to retreat from the public eye.

“That type of loss made you just be like, ‘I’m out’. I am just going to chill, take care of my wife and take care of the family and get my head right,” he said.

He noted that the birth of his twins was a source of deep comfort and renewal, saying, “To come back from that and…to be blessed with twins out the gate; a boy and a girl.”

The music star also revealed that the tragedy helped reshape his outlook and inspired him to support others facing personal struggles.

According to him, his marriage and the success of his 2023 album Timeless were further affirmations of his faith. “God is real,” he said.

Discussing his journey in the entertainment industry, Davido admitted that seeing his aspirations come true still feels surreal.

He said watching stars on social media back in the day and now being in that position himself makes him feel fulfilled.

Touching on his collaboration with American singer Chris Brown, Davido revealed that they have recorded a significant number of tracks together.

“We could put out two albums right now. It is going to happen. I am happy for Chris. I feel like he is back in his bag. He is celebrating his 20-year anniversary. I told him I was meant to go on this tour (Breezy Bowl, 20-year anniversary tour),” he said.

The award-winning singer confirmed his involvement in the film industry.

“I am an executive producer on a movie and a series with my director, Dammy Twitch. We are also working on my documentary,” he added.

Senator Natasha, US-Based Activist Clash Over Alleged Plot Against Akpabio

Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is at the center of a storm following allegations by US-based activist Dr. Sandra Duru, who accused her of attempting to orchestrate a smear campaign against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a dramatic Facebook live session on May 1, 2025, Duru, also known as Prof. Mgbeke, alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan offered her N200 million, later proposing a dollar payment, to fabricate damaging claims against Akpabio, including accusations of murder and organ harvesting.

According to Duru, the senator was desperate for a new strategy after her earlier sexual harassment complaint against Akpabio failed to gain traction.

“She told me bluntly that the sexual harassment allegation was not flying. She said she needed another strategy,” Duru alleged.

“She offered me N200m and later offered to pay in dollars. I said no.”

Duru claimed Akpoti-Uduaghan recruited her to submit petitions to the UK Parliament and the United Nations, falsely accusing the Senate President of murder and organ trafficking.

Duru said the senator promised political rewards if the plan succeeded, including a ministerial appointment or even the governorship of Kogi State.

“She said this is a politically motivated and sponsored attack against what she called the Yoruba government. She said it had nothing to do with Akpabio,” Duru added.

According to the activist, Akpoti-Uduaghan specifically cited the case of a young woman named Umoren, alleging that her kidney was harvested for Akpabio’s wife.

However, Duru said the senator failed to provide any evidence, despite repeated promises.

“She made me understand that she wanted the organ harvesting case to take precedence over the sexual harassment.”

“I asked her for evidence or an autopsy report to prove the case, but she failed to send it,” she said.

Duru also claimed she submitted WhatsApp messages, call logs, and audio clips to U.S. authorities and Nigerian law enforcement for forensic investigation.

In a swift rebuttal, Akpoti-Uduaghan described Duru’s claims as manipulated falsehoods designed to serve Akpabio’s agenda.

Through her aide, Israel Arogbonlo, she accused the activist of fabricating recordings and misrepresenting her statements.

“I have carefully watched the live stream… The content, including the voice effect credited to me, is entirely untrue and most manipulated,” the senator said.

She condemned the alleged statements attributed to her as “crazy falsehoods” and promised to respond comprehensively in due time.

Former Minister of Education Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, who was also mentioned in Duru’s broadcast, dismissed the accusations as baseless.

“I don’t have a response; zero response. I don’t respond to nonsense,” she told newsmen.

Similarly, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria denied any collusion.

Its Country Vice-President, Eliana Martins, insisted the organization only advocated for due process.

“Even if the issue of sexual harassment has to be proved, it has to be proved. We are interested in a transparent process… We did not collect any money from anybody or collude with anyone,” she emphasized.

Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere expressed concern over the allegations, calling them a dangerous ethnic and political provocation.

The group accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of seeking to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“No one should hold the country to ransom by inventing tribal conspiracies… Our nation will not bow to tribal blackmail,” the group warned.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6, 2025, following a dispute over seating arrangements, which she viewed as a targeted act of disrespect.

The conflict escalated when she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment dating back to a 2023 visit to his country home with her husband, an allegation Akpabio has vehemently denied.

Fubara Returns To Rivers After Vacation In Germany

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to the country after spending two weeks on vacation in Germany.

His arrival marks the end of a quiet period spent abroad amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

Fubara landed at the international wing of the Port Harcourt Airport in Omagwa around 7 p.m., where he was received by a few aides.

A widely shared video captured the moment the governor was escorted into a waiting SUV, which promptly drove him away from the airport.

During his time away, sources revealed that Fubara held a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London, raising speculation about possible political negotiations and realignments.

The meeting reportedly took place behind closed doors, with no official statement released.

Before embarking on his overseas trip, Fubara was said to have engaged in a rare face-to-face meeting with his estranged political mentor and predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The reconciliation effort was reportedly facilitated by two serving governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former governor from Nigeria’s western region.

The Rivers political crisis escalated earlier this year when President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, leading to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.

The move came after months of bitter power tussles and allegations of disloyalty within the political structure of the state.

Expect A Free And Fair Election In 2027 At Your Own Peril – Former Power Minister

Prof. Chinedu Nebo, Nigeria’s Former Power Minister

Chinedu Nebo, the former Minister of Power and Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s political future and the upcoming 2027 general elections.

In an interview, Nebo discussed the current state of the country, political defections, and his concerns regarding the Electoral Commission’s ability to conduct a fair election.

When asked if he joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to secure a position in Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Nebo explained, “I served as a technocrat. I have never been a politician. It was just that I was invited to serve my country, but at that time, if I had a political preference for a political party, it was obviously PDP. But I never really became an active member of a political party.”

Nebo further clarified his limited involvement with the party, stating, “It was just after I was made Minister of Power that somebody suggested I should join the party at least at the ward level. They brought me one small card and filled in my name, and I became a member. But that was it. I was never involved in any of the meetings and what have you.”

Despite the challenges faced by the PDP, Nebo expressed a preference for the party over the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying, “The PDP is falling apart. But I would choose PDP over APC any day.” He criticized the APC for what he perceived as institutionalized corruption, asserting, “APC has glorified corruption. Corruption has become part of our civil service and political system.”

He went on to highlight the extent of corruption, noting, “In the PDP government, there was a lot of corruption, but it was nothing to be compared with the APC. As a political party, quite often, they go for the worst and not the best.”

On the issue of political defections, Nebo lamented, “Defections occur because people are not there to serve the electorate. They are there to protect their interests, steal as much as possible and retain power.”

He criticized the lack of principles in Nigerian politics, comparing politicians to “socio-political prostitutes” who shift allegiances based on personal gain.

He further remarked, “Politicians in Nigeria are mostly socio-political prostitutes. They jump from one place to another. If our politicians see that they will grab more somewhere, they will leave their party and join that one.”

Addressing the pervasive corruption in the country, Nebo emphasized the severity of the issue: “Nigeria has never been this corrupt since I was a child.”

“It is oozing from every fabric of Nigeria and it would destroy this country because the resources are not being utilized for the development of the country.”

He also criticized the judiciary, citing a recent report that highlighted it as the most corrupt arm of government.

“It is a shame that a national parastatal came up recently to say that in the index of corruption, the judiciary is seen by Nigerians as the most corrupt arm of government, followed by the Police Force.”

Nebo was particularly critical of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that its current structure could not deliver a credible election in 2027.

“No amount of opposition will stop Tinubu in 2027 if the corrupt Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) we have now continues,” Nebo warned.

He further explained, “If you have an umpire who is corrupt, who doesn’t care what the electorate says, no amount of voting will change the result of 2027 elections.”

He also raised concerns about glitches in the 2023 election results transmission, noting, “How can you trust an electoral body that did not experience glitches during transmission of the results of the senatorial and House of Representatives elections but suffered glitches in that of the presidential election?”

Discussing the Tinubu administration, Nebo acknowledged some of its positive impacts but expressed concerns over what he described as its “nepotistic attitude.”

“Virtually every appointment that comes out goes to the Southwest. We complained about Buhari, but Tinubu is much worse in that regard,” he said.

He advised the opposition to focus on grassroots mobilization, saying, “If the opposition is strong enough, they should go to the grassroots and convince the electorate not to allow anybody to steal their votes.”

Nebo also addressed the issue of insecurity in the Southeast, criticizing the lack of cooperation among the region’s governors. “It is so unfortunate that in the Southeast, the governors have refused to work together,” he stated.

He emphasized the importance of collective efforts, explaining, “A situation where you do your things individually will have an effect, but the cumulative effect of working together would have strengthened their efforts even much more than what they are doing individually.”

Nebo voiced his support for the establishment of more universities in Nigeria, countering arguments against it by stating, “I don’t think there are too many universities in Nigeria.”

“A situation where more than 60 percent of all those who are qualified yearly or those who take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination never find placement in the universities is an indication that the universities are not too many.”

He also criticized the federal government’s competition with private institutions, saying, “the federal and state governments are killing education by competing with the private universities unduly.”

Nebo shared his experiences working in both public and private institutions, highlighting the challenges faced by private institutions.

“If you are in a federal institution, the resources are often much more abundant than private institutions. Federal universities have undue advantage over the private ones,” he said.

Flight Cancellations Due To Safety Concerns, Air Peace Replies NCAA

Air Peace has issued a statement clarifying that its recent flight cancellations and delays were due to safety considerations and in line with aviation safety standards.

The airline emphasized that it prioritizes human life and would never compromise safety for convenience, comfort, speed, or profit.

The statement, released by Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, came after passengers faced disruptions in their travel plans.

Air Peace expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delays but explained that these disruptions were necessary to ensure the safety of all passengers.

The airline assured the public that any instances of cancellations or delays were due to technical, operational, or weather-related issues falling short of safety standards.

“It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause, and when we do, we are often the greater loser financially,” the statement read.

“We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed or profit.”

Air Peace also thanked the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for its efforts to ensure adherence to global aviation safety standards and requested the airline to improve its domestic operations.

Despite the challenges, the airline clarified that its fleet size was not the cause of the cancellations.

“We have more aircraft than we are rostered to operate daily,” the airline said, further explaining that the issues were unrelated to any fleet shortage.

The airline cited a recent incident where one of its aircraft suffered a bird strike that damaged its engine while landing in Enugu.

The aircraft was grounded immediately in line with safety protocols, causing a ripple effect on other flights that the aircraft was supposed to service.

Air Peace assured passengers that this was an unforeseeable event that was beyond the control of the airline, but that safety would always remain its top priority.

“Every decision Air Peace has taken since its inception, whether resulting in delays, cancellations, or suspensions, has been made with the best interest of passenger safety in mind,” the statement emphasized.

The airline made it clear that it would continue to take similar actions in the future if necessary, as its commitment to safety remains unwavering.

The NCAA had previously held a meeting with the airline’s management due to several complaints regarding flight disruptions, highlighting the growing concern over such delays.

Kano Emirate Tussle Deepens As Two Galadimas Emerge

Kano Emirate has witnessed the installation of two Galadimas, the highest traditional councillors of the emirate, in a development that reflects the ongoing legal battle between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero over the legitimacy of the Emir of Kano.

Sanusi, the reinstated 16th Emir, appointed Alhaji Munir Sanusi Bayero, the district head of Bichi, as the new Galadima of Kano. In contrast, Bayero, the dethroned 15th Emir, also crowned Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Galadima.

The two Galadimas were installed in separate ceremonies, with Munir Sanusi Bayero being turbaned at the Kofar Mata main palace, and Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero at the mini palace.

The Galadima serves as the highest traditional advisor to the emir, providing counsel and guidance.

Despite their new appointments, the dispute over who is the rightful Emir of Kano continues to unfold in the courts.

Sanusi also made additional appointments, naming four senior traditional councillors to hold important positions in the emirate.

The new councillors include Wamban Kano, Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, the district head of Nassarawa; Turakin Kano, Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, the district head of Gwale; Tafidan Kano, Adam Lamido Sanusi; and Yariman Kano, Alhaji Ahmad Abbas Sanusi.

During the turbaning ceremony, which was attended by Governor Abba Yusuf and his cabinet, Sanusi urged the appointees to maintain exemplary leadership.

He emphasized that their appointments were based on their proven loyalty and service to the emirate and the people of Kano.

“You have been chosen based on your track records and that of your families,” he told the new appointees.

“You have shown and demonstrated loyalty to the emirate, our lineage, the people, and the state. I urge you to continue helping the poor and contributing to society’s betterment.”

Sanusi’s message was clear: despite their new roles, the appointees must remain humble and continue the work they have been doing for the community, following the example set by their fathers.

Meta To Withdraw Facebook, Instagram From Nigeria Over Regulatory Pressure, Court-Ordered Fines

Nigerians could soon lose access to Facebook and Instagram, as Meta, the parent company of both platforms, considers halting services in the country due to mounting fines and what it calls “unrealistic” regulatory conditions imposed by Nigerian authorities.

In 2024, three regulatory bodies in Nigeria collectively fined Meta over $290 million (approximately £218 million) for alleged violations of various laws.

After a failed legal challenge at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Meta hinted at the possibility of discontinuing its operations in Nigeria.

According to court documents, “The applicant may be forced to effectively shut down the Facebook and Instagram services in Nigeria in order to mitigate the risk of enforcement measures.”

Notably, WhatsApp, also owned by Meta, was not mentioned in the company’s statement.

Facebook remains Nigeria’s most widely used social media platform, relied on by tens of millions for daily communication, news dissemination, and online business activities.

The breakdown of the fines includes a $220 million penalty from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for alleged anti-competitive behavior; a $37.5 million fine from the national advertising regulator for running unapproved ads; and a $32.8 million charge from the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) over privacy violations.

FCCPC Chief Executive Adamu Abdullahi stated that investigations, jointly conducted with the NDPC between May 2021 and December 2023, uncovered “invasive practices against data subjects/consumers in Nigeria,” though he didn’t elaborate on the specifics.

In its legal filings, Meta said its “primary concern” is with the NDPC, which it accuses of “misinterpreting” Nigeria’s data privacy legislation.

One of the NDPC’s main requirements was that Meta seek prior approval before transferring personal data outside Nigeria, a mandate Meta criticized as “unrealistic.”

Additional conditions imposed by the NDPC included the creation of educational videos on data privacy risks.

These videos, it said, must be linked through a visible icon and produced in collaboration with government-sanctioned educational bodies and non-profit organizations.

According to the commission, the aim is to raise awareness of “manipulative and unfair data processing” practices that may pose financial and health risks to Nigerian users.

Meta has pushed back strongly against the NDPC’s stance, arguing that the agency has failed to “properly interpret the laws guiding data privacy.”

The Federal High Court has given Meta until the end of June to comply and pay the fines.
