AIG Oladipo Cautions Police Officers Against Misconduct, Collusion With Criminals

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 13, Mr. Abayomi Oladipo, has issued a stern warning to police personnel under his jurisdiction, cautioning them against engaging in unprofessional conduct or colluding with criminals.

During a one-day official working visit to Enugu on Wednesday, Oladipo addressed senior officers of the Enugu State Police Command.

Zone 13 of the Nigeria Police Force comprises Enugu and Anambra States.

The AIG emphasized the importance of professionalism in conduct and appearance, warning against the unauthorized use of face masks as part of the police uniform.

“Wearing face mask under any guise is never part of police uniform,” he said.

“On no account should a superior or supervising officer allow anyone under them to dress in an unauthorised way.”

He also urged officers to maintain safety standards during operations, especially while conducting stop-and-search duties.

“Ensure proper dismantling of materials placed on the road while on stop-and-search duty,” he advised.

“Leaving them could cause accidents at night or criminals taking over such spots pretending to be police personnel.”

Oladipo reminded officers to remain vigilant and take their safety seriously, stressing the responsibility they have to the public and their families.

“You must be alert at your duty post and do not loss guard about your surroundings as the possibility of being attacked is there; and your families, loved ones and Nigeria Police Force needed you to be alive,” he said.

The AIG made it clear that corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“If you are found wanting on issue of corruption, you will surely face the consequences and I have instructed that the appropriate punishment should be applied,” he said.

He further urged officers to make themselves approachable to the public and monitor their subordinates’ conduct to prevent acts that could tarnish the image of the Force.

“Officers must make themselves accessible for compliant by Nigerians and strive to monitor what personnel under them are doing in order to checkmate any personnel that wants to carry out an act to give the police a bad image,” Oladipo stated.

He gave a stern warning to those colluding with criminals:
“Those of you who collude with criminals, yahoo boys, ritualists and others in communities and cover crime, the Nigeria Police Force is monitoring and praying to God that in no distance time you will be exposed and you will be dealt with appropriately.”

Regarding personnel welfare, the AIG reminded officers to ensure their records are properly updated, particularly information regarding next-of-kin.

“All personnel should ensure that their records are duly filled and confirmed,” he advised. “Issues of next-of-kin should be sorted out and clearly spelt out by all personnel.”

Oladipo also commended the leadership of the Enugu State Command for their proactive efforts in keeping the state secure.

“The commissioner and command are on top of the game and they are doing very well. I personally appreciate the challenges you go through in policing the state and ensuring safety of all,” he said.

Earlier in the meeting, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, highlighted some of the Command’s major challenges, including insufficient manpower and logistics.

He acknowledged ongoing security issues such as farmer-herder conflicts, attacks by separatist groups, and sporadic criminal incidents.

However, he reaffirmed the state’s overall safety.

“However, Enugu State remains the safest state in the South-East and one of the safest states in the country recording excellent human and economic activities flow,” Giwa said.

The commissioner assured the AIG that new strategies, including a focus on rural patrols, were being implemented to combat crime more effectively.

“We are assuring sir, that with deployment of new security strategies, which include the new rural communities patrol of the Command, there will be no hiding place for any criminal and we will continue to reduce crime rate in the state,” he assured.

As part of his visit, AIG Oladipo toured several police formations across the state, including mobile and tactical units, area commands, the Police College in Oji River, and the Police Detective College in Enugu.

Tinubu’s Visit To Benue Did More Harm Than Good – Dele Farotimi

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has expressed disappointment over President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, arguing that the President’s conduct during the trip appeared detached and politically motivated.

Farotimi, speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, said the visit lacked empathy and failed to address the gravity of the crisis facing the state.

“I must say very quickly that it would have been better if the president didn’t go,” he stated.

According to Farotimi, the only meaningful voice during the President’s visit to Makurdi was that of the Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse. The traditional ruler had described the continued killings in the region as a:

“calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits”.

Farotimi praised the monarch’s remarks, saying:

“The only thing worthy of anybody’s time was the words of the Tor Tiv, who spoke extensively to the reality of the situation in the Benue trough and spoke eloquently to the pains of the victims.”

He criticized the overall tone and content of the President’s visit:

“Other than that, all the president had to offer were mere windows into his preoccupation and what truly concerns his aides and assistants.”

Benue, a major agricultural hub in Nigeria’s North-Central region, has endured waves of violent attacks blamed on suspected herdsmen.

While tensions have simmered for years, recent weeks have seen an escalation. Over 160 lives have been lost in various assaults across communities in the state.

One of the most devastating incidents occurred last Friday in Yelewata, where an overnight assault left scores dead and displaced over 3,000 people.

Official figures placed the death toll at 59, but civil rights groups claimed as many as 200 people were killed.

In response to public outcry, including condemnation from international figures like Pope Leo XIV, President Tinubu visited Benue on Wednesday and urged military and police chiefs to act swiftly.

“Let’s get those criminals out,” he told service chiefs during the visit.

But Farotimi found fault not just with the President’s message, but also with the atmosphere surrounding the visit.

“In Benue, they knew exactly what was of importance to the president, so they ensured that they put up the necessary theatre for 2027,” he remarked.

He continued:

“The death of over 200 people did not count much; they were mentioned only in passing, and you would have been excused that it was a political event.”

Farotimi further lamented the lack of national outrage:

“We’ve almost lost our capacity to be shocked. 200 human beings were murdered, and the President went to Benue and was talking as if he were preparing for a campaign rally.”

“It was more or less that they went to dance on the graves of some of whom may not even be identified. Let the state begin to protect the lives and property of the citizens.”

The attacks have reignited calls for urgent reforms.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has demanded the creation of a state police force and the establishment of an intervention fund to address the humanitarian crisis.

Isreal Bombs Iran’s Internal Security Headquarters

Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced that Israeli Air Force jets has destroyed Iran’s internal security headquarters in Tehran.

“Air Force jets have just destroyed the internal security headquarters of the Iranian regime, the main arm of repression of the Iranian dictator,” Katz said, vowing to “strike symbols of governance and hit the Ayatollah regime wherever it may be.”

The Israeli military reported that over 50 fighter jets struck multiple targets, including weapons manufacturing sites and centrifuge component facilities near Tehran—targets later confirmed by the UN nuclear monitoring body.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed to have launched their advanced Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles at Tel Aviv. Although none reportedly hit, Israel’s air defenses were activated overnight in response.

Amnesty International cautioned against civilian harm, emphasizing the humanitarian cost:

“As the number of deaths and injuries continue to rise, Amnesty International is urging both parties to comply with their obligations and ensure that civilians in both countries do not further pay the price of reckless military action”

“Further escalation of these hostilities risks unleashing devastating and far‑reaching consequences for civilians across the region and beyond,” said Secretary General Agnes Callamard.

With airspace closures and cancelled flights in Iran and Israel, foreign governments have launched emergency evacuations.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem confirmed coordination of flights and cruise ship departures:

“Urgent notice! American citizens wanting to leave Israel… is working on evacuation flights & cruise ship departures,” tweeted U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee, advising enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.

Other nations—including the U.K., China, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, and Germany—have also evacuated citizens via land and air routes.

Israel indicated a gradual reopening of its economy beginning Wednesday evening:

“The decision to gradually reopen the economy and various regions is a message of victory over the Iranian enemy,” Defence Minister Katz stated.

Domestic restrictions will ease from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Friday, allowing business activity where shelters are available. However, schools, beaches, and large public gatherings remain closed.

Amid decades of tension and recent military exchanges, the Israeli bombing campaign began last Friday.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office reported at least 24 fatalities and hundreds injured in Israel.

Iran, for its part, claimed at least 42 deaths within its borders—spanning military personnel, nuclear scientists, and civilians

Traffic Standstill As Trailer Crushes Three On Madalla-Zuba Road

A fatal road accident on the Abuja-Kaduna highway caused a major traffic gridlock on Wednesday after a trailer crushed three individuals and left three others injured near the Madalla junction in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.

The crash occurred at around 10 a.m. and involved a trailer and a commercial tricycle, widely known as Keke Napep.

According to eyewitnesses, the trailer, which was approaching from the Kaduna axis, lost control at the junction and rammed into the tricycle.

When Abuja Metro reporters visited the scene around 12 p.m., rescue efforts were still ongoing in search of more possible survivors.

The incident exacerbated already slow-moving traffic on the highway, which has seen heavy delays due to ongoing rehabilitation work. The accident added to the frustration of road users caught in the congestion.

One witness, Saleh Haruna, provided a harrowing account:

“Among those killed were a commercial motorcyclist and the passengers of a commercial tricyclist, who had alighted around the junction.”

Haruna further explained that the tricycle operator had momentarily stepped away to make change for his passengers just before the accident occurred.

“He survived with an injury on one of his hands, while his passengers were believed to be among the dead,” he added.

He also revealed that the trailer driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Efforts to clear the wreckage were initially unsuccessful.

A crane operator deployed to the scene was seen struggling to lift the heavily damaged trailer from the tricycle.

Eventually, the wreckage was removed, and normal traffic resumed on the busy highway.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who were present at the site confirmed the incident and assisted with rescue operations and traffic control.

Steer Clear, Iran Will Not Surrender – Khamenei Warns US Against Interference

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a defiant national address yesterday, declaring that Iran will “never surrender to any imposition from anyone”, and warning the United States that any military action would cause “irreparable damage”.

His remarks came six days into the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.

Khamenei criticized President Trump’s demand for Iran’s “unconditional surrender”, calling it “unacceptable”, and also condemned Israel for launching military strikes while Tehran was engaged in nuclear negotiations with Washington.

“This nation will never surrender to any imposition from anyone. America should know that any military intervention will undoubtedly result in irreparable damage,” he declared.

Iran’s Mission to the United Nations echoed Khamenei’s tone in a post on X, stating:

“No Iran’s official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of White House. The only thing more despicable as his (Trump) lies is his threat to take out Iran’s supreme leader.”

“Iran does not negotiate under duress, shall not accept peace under duress, and certainly not with a has‑been warmonger clinging to relevance. Iran shall respond to any threat with a counter‑threat, and to any action with reciprocal measure”

Viral Video Of Schoolgirl Smoking Cannabis Originated From Zimbabwe, Not Nigeria – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has addressed public concern over a viral video showing a school-aged girl smoking what appears to be cannabis.

Contrary to widespread assumptions that the video was recorded in Nigeria, police authorities have clarified that it actually originated in Zimbabwe.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, cautioned the public against spreading unverified information.

“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a deeply concerning video currently circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, depicting a school-aged girl smoking what appears to be cannabis, surrounded and cheered on by her classmates,” Adejobi said.

“The video has been widely shared with captions suggesting the incident occurred within a Nigerian school, prompting significant concern and anxiety amongst Nigerian parents and the wider community.”

However, according to preliminary findings from police investigations, the footage is not linked to Nigeria.

Adejobi said multiple pieces of evidence point toward Zimbabwe as the likely source of the video.

“However, a preliminary investigation into its origin strongly suggests that the video did not originate in Nigeria, with multiple indicators pointing towards the video’s likely origin being in Zimbabwe,” he explained.

One of the key indicators, he said, was the language used in the video.

“The evidence supporting this conclusion includes the language spoken within the video,” Adejobi continued.

“Individuals featured are heard speaking in both English and Shona, the latter being a language predominantly spoken in Zimbabwe and parts of southern Africa. Critically, no Nigerian languages or discernable Nigerian accents are present in the audio.”

He also pointed to the platform on which the video first surfaced.

“Furthermore, the original upload of the video was accompanied by a caption written in Shona, with its initial posting on the Instagram channel @rusape_celebs_tv, a channel which is demonstrably based in the town of Rusape, Zimbabwe.”

The Police spokesperson urged Nigerians to verify the authenticity of sensitive content before sharing it online.

“We urge the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified information, particularly when it involves sensitive content and carries the potential to impact individuals, organizations, and entire communities negatively.”

“The Force strongly encourages responsible sharing of information and thorough verification of sources before amplifying potentially harmful claims,” Adejobi concluded.

My Presidential Ambition On Hold Until Tinubu Completes Second Term – Sen. Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, has stated that his presidential ambition is currently on hold until President Bola Tinubu completes his second term in office.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu emphasized that party loyalty takes precedence over personal ambition.

He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has already endorsed President Tinubu for re-election, and as such, any personal aspiration must align with that decision.

“I am a member of the APC and our party has comfortably endorsed President Tinubu. So, even if I have presidential ambition, it is in the cooler for now because I cannot fight the party. The party is supreme. The supremacy of the party is what President Tinubu is enjoying,” he said.

Kalu noted that should he still possess the capacity and resources after Tinubu’s tenure, he may revive his ambition.

“He will enjoy it and we will elect him President. At God’s own time, if I still have the energy and the resources, after President Tinubu in 2031, who says, I can’t contest for the President? It is possible.”

Looking ahead to 2027, the former Abia State governor also confirmed his intention to seek re-election to the Senate if he remains favored by his constituents.

“In 2027, I will run for re-election for the Senate. I will run if our people find me worthy. A man who has done more than 187 roads in six years as a senator, and I have done more than 123 primary schools,” he stated.

Kalu further commended President Tinubu’s performance in office so far, expressing confidence in the president’s ability to deliver lasting improvements to Nigeria’s economy.

“I work closely with him. The President has done very well within two years. If we can give him the benefits of finishing another two years and doing another term, I think we will see a lot of changes in the economy,” he remarked.

Addressing critics who have questioned the timing of Tinubu’s endorsement, Kalu defended the move, describing it as a strategic decision to motivate the president to do more.

“The party did the right thing because we are in the mid-term and we need to encourage the President to do more. The sitting President has the right to re-contest and we will support him one hundred percent,” he added.

IPOB Activities Led To Death Of About 200 Security Agents In Southeast – DSS Witness Tells Court

A prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that approximately 200 security personnel lost their lives in the South East as a result of attacks linked to IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The anonymous witness, presented by the Department of State Services (DSS), testified on Wednesday under protection.

According to the witness, one Uzoma Benjamin, also known by the alias Onye Army, allegedly detailed how the group carried out orders from Kanu directing them to kill security agents.

“They allegedly received directives from Kanu to kill security agents,” the witness stated while being led in testimony by the prosecuting counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).

The witness also revealed that, according to intelligence reports, the late ESN commander, Ikonso, was to be buried with an astonishing number of human remains.

“They allegedly received directives from Kanu to… ensure that a deceased member of the group, Ikonso, was buried with 2000 human heads,” the DSS official said.

However, the investigation reportedly found that the group was only able to gather 30 human heads for the burial.

“Of the 2000 human heads sought to bury Ikonso, only 30 were eventually sourced,” the witness disclosed.

Additionally, the witness testified about the assassination of a political figure.

He recounted the circumstances surrounding the killing of Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who was shot dead in Owerri, Imo State, on May 30, 2021.

Following the conclusion of the cross-examination, Justice James Omotosho discharged the witness.

The judge then adjourned the case until Thursday for the prosecution to present its fifth witness.

We Have Control Of Iranian Airspace, Trump Claims

U.S President Donald Trump on Tuesday made bold claims about American military dominance over Iran, declaring on his Truth Social platform that the United States now exercises “complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”

“We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran,” Trump wrote, lauding the effectiveness of U.S – made military hardware.

While he refrained from directly mentioning Israel, his remarks came amid intensifying speculation over potential U.S. involvement in Israel’s ongoing military actions against Tehran.

“Nobody does it better than the good ol’ USA,” he added in a characteristically boastful tone.

In another series of posts, Trump turned up the pressure on Iran’s leadership, particularly targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He stated that the U.S. intelligence community knows Khamenei’s exact location, but emphasized that there were no plans to assassinate him, “for now.”

“We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there, We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” Trump posted.

His language continued to escalate when he followed up with a single, forceful demand: “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”, leaving no doubt about the level of pressure he intended to apply.

Trump also said:
“But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The president had just returned early from the G7 summit in Canada as tensions between Iran and Israel intensified.

He was scheduled to hold critical meetings with national security officials in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday.

Despite his aggressive tone, Trump reiterated that the United States has not yet formally entered the conflict.

He noted that Iran still has the option to accept a deal aimed at dismantling its nuclear program, a proposal he claims predates the recent Israeli strikes.

However, the increasing frequency and tone of his statements have raised concerns that U.S military involvement may soon be on the table
