Your Sins Are Forgiven – Tinubu Tells Sanwo-Olu After Visit With GAC

President Bola Tinubu has declared that he has reconciled with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, putting an end to any lingering tension between them.

Speaking during a closed-door session with members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Saturday, Tinubu stated, It’s all over now. All is forgiven.”

The president’s remarks came after GAC members met with him in Lagos to mediate and appeal on behalf of Sanwo-Olu and others believed to have fallen out of his favour.

Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the GAC, welcomed the president and acknowledged the strained relationship.

He confirmed that Tinubu had been displeased with certain individuals in Lagos, especially the governor, and formally appealed for reconciliation.

Sources at the meeting revealed that Tinubu assured the delegation that he bore no ill will, with specific reference to Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The atmosphere reportedly shifted to one of healing and unity.

In a traditional gesture of humility and remorse, the governor and several members of the GAC were said to have prostrated before the president.

While the exact reasons behind the rift were not discussed in detail during the meeting, the central theme remained forgiveness and moving forward.

Remembering June 8, 1998: The Day Sani Abacha Died

On this day, June 8, 1998, Nigeria awoke to the stunning news that its military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, had died suddenly at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He was 58 years old.

Abacha’s death, shrouded in mystery, came without warning.

No official cause was ever publicly confirmed, and in line with Islamic rites, he was buried the same day without an autopsy.

The sudden end of his rule brought a dramatic close to one of the most authoritarian eras in Nigeria’s post-independence history.

Rising to power in 1993 through a military coup, General Abacha ran the country with an iron grip.

Under his leadership, Nigeria saw a mix of economic stabilization and international isolation.

While some praised his ability to rein in inflation and restore a degree of fiscal order, his regime was notorious for its human rights abuses, brutal suppression of dissent, and large-scale corruption.

Political opponents were jailed or exiled, and the execution of activists, most notably Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine in 1995, drew global outrage.

The unexpected nature of his death left a vacuum at the top of Nigeria’s military hierarchy.

Yet it also opened the door to rapid political change. Just ten months later, in May 1999, Nigeria transitioned to civilian rule with the inauguration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, a former military leader turned elected president.

More than 25 years on, the legacy of Sani Abacha remains deeply polarizing.

For some, he is remembered as a strong leader who brought order to chaos; for others, he symbolizes repression, lost potential, and the deep scars left by years of autocratic rule.

Regardless of where opinions fall, June 8 stands as a pivotal date in Nigeria’s modern history, a moment when the course of the nation began to shift away from dictatorship and toward democracy.

Sanwo-Olu, GAC Members Hold Meeting With Tinubu In Lagos

Amid growing speculation about political tensions in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday met with President Bola Tinubu at the president’s private residence in Bourdillon, located in the upscale Ikoyi area of the state.

Joining Sanwo-Olu at the meeting were members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the apex decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

The gathering comes at a time when rumors have circulated about a possible rift between Tinubu and the Lagos governor.

Tensions were thought to have escalated following the controversial removal, and subsequent reinstatement of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Speculation further intensified after Sanwo-Olu was noticeably absent from the flag-off of the deep seaport access road reconstruction in Epe-Ijebu Ode in early June, an event seen as significant within the state’s development agenda.

Social media users also raised eyebrows earlier this month when a video appeared to show President Tinubu seemingly snubbing Governor Sanwo-Olu during the inauguration of the completed Phase 1, Section 1 (30km, six-lane) segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

However, Sunday’s meeting appears to have eased concerns, with observers suggesting it signaled a mending of relations.

In attendance at the high-level meeting were Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and his deputy, Mojisola Meranda; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and several other influential figures in Lagos political circles.

Since his arrival in Lagos on May 27, President Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence has seen a steady stream of high-profile visitors, coinciding with a series of events including the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Among the dignitaries who have paid courtesy visits to the president are the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo; former presidential aspirant and cleric, Pastor Tunde Bakare; Rivers State’s suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates.

Traders Count Losses As Fire Ravages Timber Market In Kebbi

A major fire outbreak early Sunday morning ravaged the Kara Market, a well-known wood and timber trading center in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, resulting in the destruction of shops and properties worth millions of naira.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began suddenly and quickly spread throughout the market before emergency responders could intervene.

“We just saw smoke everywhere, and before we knew it, the flames had engulfed most of the shops,” said Musa Bello, a trader who witnessed the incident.

Though the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, the incident has left many traders counting their losses.

In response, the Kebbi State Government offered condolences to those affected.

Abuzaid Yari, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, described the event as “an unfortunate incident”.

“The government sympathises deeply with the victims and prays that Allah replenishes their losses,” he stated.

Yari also acknowledged the efforts of the state fire service, noting their role in minimizing the scale of destruction.

“We appreciate the swift action of the fire service, whose efforts prevented further damage,” he said.

While the material losses were extensive, officials confirmed that no lives were lost.

The state government has assured residents of its commitment to protecting both lives and property.

I Haven’t Seen Anyone Who Can Sack Me From PDP – Wike Fires Back

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has strongly responded to those calling for his removal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that no one has the authority or courage to expel him from the party.

Speaking during a media parley on Monday in Abuja, Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP while emphasizing his significant role and contributions to the party.

“I am still in PDP. I worked hard for the party. I have not seen anybody who will have the guts to tell me, Wike, you are not a member of the party,” he said boldly.

He went on to challenge those questioning his status within the PDP, asking rhetorically:

“Who is that? What is his contribution to the party that is more than me?”

NDLEA Seizes Cannabis Concealed As Green Tea At Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a shipment of illicit drugs cleverly disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the agency intercepted 66 parcels of Loud, a potent variant of cannabis, weighing 62.20 kilograms at the airport’s import shed.

The interception occurred on Thursday, June 5, following sustained surveillance.

Babafemi revealed that credible intelligence had tipped off the agency prior to the consignment’s arrival at the cargo terminal on May 11.

Acting on this, NDLEA agents placed the package under watch for more than three weeks.

The consignment, concealed in green tea packaging, originated from Thailand and was flown into Nigeria via an Emirates Airlines flight through the UAE.

“The Loud consignment weighing 62.20kgs was concealed inside wraps of green tea that came from Thailand via UAE on an Emirate Airlines flight,” Babafemi said.

In a separate operation on Monday, June 2, in Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted a 1,665kg haul of skunk, another cannabis strain, along the Lekki-Ajah expressway.

Two suspects, Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi, were apprehended in connection with the massive drug bust.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, NDLEA personnel patrolling the Abuja-Kaduna highway arrested 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka on Tuesday, June 3.

He was found in possession of 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam, a sedative often misused.

That same day, officers also nabbed Kabiru Musa, a 52-year-old known drug dealer nicknamed “KB,” at Kurmin Mash. Authorities had earlier confiscated 25.7kg of skunk from his base.

Elsewhere in Edo State, NDLEA recovered 9kg of Loud from the spare tyre compartment of an Audi station wagon with plate number AAA 975 XU, driven by Atari Israel, 45.

On that same Tuesday in Benin City’s Ikpoba Hill area, two women — Favour Joy and Joy Igwe — were arrested. Seized from them were 106.57kg of skunk, 1kg of Loud, 800g of Colorado, and 302g of methamphetamine.

NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the Lagos, Kaduna, and Edo Commands for their latest successes.

He also acknowledged the broader commitment of the agency’s personnel nationwide in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

He commended them “for pursuing a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.”

God Told Me, Stay At RCCG Or Your Firstborn Will Die – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has recounted a deeply personal spiritual encounter where God warned him not to leave the denomination, stating that doing so would result in the death of his first child.

This revelation came during the RCCG’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, held in the early hours of Saturday, June 7, under the theme “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” at the Redemption City of God.

Addressing a large congregation, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the importance of hearing from God and obeying His instructions without compromise.

He highlighted a worrying trend he sees among younger believers who frequently switch churches, never settling into spiritual consistency.

“They move from one church to another, constantly identifying as first-timers in new congregations,” he observed with concern.

Sharing his own journey of faith, Pastor Adeboye recalled a pivotal moment early in his Christian life, when he was tempted by the popularity of several other ministries.

“There were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said.

Despite those attractions, Adeboye said he received an unmistakable instruction from God.

“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your first born will die,’” he recounted.

At the time of this divine warning, RCCG was a relatively unknown ministry headquartered in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Even then, Adeboye, who held a respected academic position as a university lecturer, was instructed to submit to the spiritual authority of his mentor.

“I was a lecturer in the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he recalled, highlighting his obedience despite what might have seemed a mismatch in credentials.

In closing, Pastor Adeboye urged all Christians, especially the youth, not to be swayed by trends or outward appearances, but to seek God’s will for their spiritual home.

“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.

He also clarified that his message was not meant to elevate RCCG above other churches.

“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he affirmed.

Review Appointment Of Alleged APC Members As INEC Recs – SERAP To Tinubu

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the appointment of several Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) accused of being affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter dated June 7, 2025, and signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation stressed the importance of appointing non-partisan individuals with proven integrity in order to preserve public trust in the electoral process.

“Public perception of the independence of INEC is essential for building confidence in the electoral process,” SERAP stated.

“Where Nigerians have doubts about INEC’s neutrality, they are more likely to lose trust in the electoral system, thereby undermining democracy.”

The group cited concerns over the nominations and Senate confirmations of Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom), Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo), Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos), and Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers), all appointed in October 2023.

It urged the president to replace the appointees with non-partisan individuals and to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to prepare legislation aimed at strengthening INEC’s independence.

“The credibility and legitimacy of elections depend largely on the independence and impartiality of those appointed to manage the process,” the letter read.

SERAP referenced constitutional provisions such as Section 156(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits party affiliation among INEC members, and Paragraph 14 of the Third Schedule, which mandates that RECs must be of unquestionable integrity.

The group also cited Nigeria’s obligations under international frameworks like the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, and guidance from the UN Human Rights Committee.

“The will of the people is expressed through democratic elections. This requires not just legal safeguards but also public confidence in the institutions conducting the process,” SERAP stated.

“We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken urgently to ensure respect for the sanctity and integrity of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections,” it concluded.

‘It’s Over’ – Trump Cuts Ties With Elon Musk, Warns Of ‘Serious Consequences’

(FILES) (FILES) (COMBO) This combination of pictures created on August 12, 2024 shows, L-R, Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaking at the 27th annual Milken Institute Global Conference at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on May 6, 2024 and former US President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump standing onstage during the last day of the 2024 Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 18, 2024. US President Donald Trump said in remarks airing on February 9, 2025, that Musk, who is presiding over a purge of US government jobs, will help find "hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud" in federal agencies. Speaking in a Fox News interview set to air before the Super Bowl football championship, Trump said the American people "want me to find" waste and that Musk, the world's richest man and the leader of the president's cost-cutting efforts, has been "a great help" in rooting out unnecessary spending. U.S President, Donald Trump has announced the end of his relationship with tech billionaire Elon Musk, warning of “serious consequences” should Musk support Democratic candidates opposing the administration’s major tax and spending bill.

In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump made it clear the fallout is final.

When asked if he believed their relationship was over, he responded, “I would assume so, yeah.”

He added, “I have no intention of speaking to him.”

While Trump declined to detail what the “serious consequences” might be, he noted that he hadn’t considered pulling government contracts from Musk’s ventures, such as SpaceX or Starlink.

Their feud intensified this week after Musk publicly slammed Trump’s proposed legislation as a “disgusting abomination.”

The measure narrowly passed the House and is now under review in the Senate.

Analysts estimate it could add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over a decade.

Musk has since deleted some critical posts about Trump, including one where he agreed with a user calling for Trump’s impeachment and replacement by Vice President JD Vance.

On his podcast, Senator Vance called Musk’s comments “a huge mistake” and said, “I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold… But I hope it is.”

Trump, however, remains confident in his legislative efforts: “People that were going to vote for it are now enthusiastically going to vote for it, and we expect it to pass,” he said.

Musk, who heavily funded Trump’s 2024 campaign with nearly $300 million, had previously been appointed to lead efforts to cut federal spending.

Despite Trump’s praise just a week earlier, the relationship now appears irreparably broken.
