Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol Price

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced another reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lowering it by ₦15 per litre.

The new price in Lagos is now ₦875 per litre.

The company said the revised rates will vary slightly by region: ₦885 per litre in the South West, ₦895 in the North West and North Central, and ₦905 in the South East, South South, and North East.

These prices will be available through all of Dangote’s partner marketers, which include MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde.

As part of the announcement, Dangote urged other fuel marketers to align with its distribution network and show support for the federal government’s economic policies.

“We urge all marketers to support President Bola Tinubu’s Nigeria First policy, which prioritises locally-produced goods and services,” the company stated.

This reduction continues a series of price cuts initiated by the refinery since it commenced operations.

In February 2025, Dangote Petroleum Refinery implemented two separate price reductions totaling ₦125 per litre.

Another ₦45 was slashed in April. The company has also lowered prices for diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), moves it says have made energy more accessible across various sectors, transportation, industry, and households.

Despite the global uncertainty surrounding crude oil markets, the refinery says it remains committed to maintaining price stability.

“By refining petroleum products domestically at the world’s largest single-train refinery, we are proud to make a substantial contribution to Nigeria’s energy security, foreign exchange savings, and overall economic resilience, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on addressing the nation’s economic challenges and improving the well-being of Nigerians,” the company stated.

Dangote also assured Nigerians of a steady and sufficient supply of petrol.

It said domestic demand would be fully met while excess volumes would be exported to help boost Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves.

Coinciding with this announcement was international recognition for the refinery’s founder, Aliko Dangote.

He was named to TIME Magazine’s 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy list, which highlights the world’s most influential leaders in charitable work.

Dangote joins global figures such as Michael Bloomberg, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffett, and Melinda Gates.

TIME commended his philanthropic contributions, noting that the Dangote Foundation spends an average of $35 million annually on development programmes across Africa.

Our Leaders Have Lost Touch With Reality – Sam Adeyemi

Pastor Sam Adeyemi has criticized the disconnect between Nigerian leaders and the everyday struggles of citizens, highlighting a growing lack of empathy among those in positions of power.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre expressed concern that many leaders appear more focused on retaining political power than improving people’s lives.

“Some of our leaders, it is even obvious from the way they speak, that they have lost touch with the reality of the poor, they have no empathy, no compassion,” Adeyemi said during the interview.

He emphasized that this detachment makes it difficult for such leaders to make sound decisions that truly serve the public.

According to him, fear of losing political power fuels rampant defections between parties as politicians prioritize self-preservation over service.

“Some of them are being threatened that they would lose their next election, that is what they are defecting. So their own survival is being threatened,” he noted.

Pastor Adeyemi also pointed to the undue influence of political godfathers as a major factor eroding democratic values in Nigeria.

He lamented that instead of citizens choosing their leaders, powerful political figures often dictate who rises to power.

“I wish we had the perfect scenario that it is the citizens that actually elected people but we have seen over the years the power of the godfathers in our politics. They have built their influence over many years,” he said.

Though many of these political actors are highly intelligent and well-educated, Adeyemi observed that the pressures of navigating Nigeria’s political landscape often lead them to compromise their integrity.

“These are educated people, these are highly intelligent people, some of our best, it is just that in the process of wanting to succeed in this Nigeria, they bent here and bent there and by the time they arrive at the top that they wanted to go, they have become crooked,” he added.

Poly Student Electrocuted While Hoisting PDP Flag Appeals For Medical Help

A student of the Taraba State Polytechnic, Iorhee Saanmoyol Paul, has been hospitalised after suffering a severe electric shock while hoisting a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag in Jalingo.

The incident took place on Wednesday as preparations were underway to welcome Vice President Kashim Shettima to the Taraba State International Investment Summit, also known as TARAVEST.

Paul, a student in the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control, under the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, is currently receiving treatment at Gilead Hospital in Jalingo metropolis.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Paul recounted the moment of the accident:
“I was flying the party’s flag to welcome our Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima. Then suddenly, like a dream, I found myself here in the hospital with this serious condition.”

Still battling the effects of the electrocution, Paul has made a heartfelt appeal to the Taraba State government for further medical assistance, requesting to be transferred to a more advanced medical facility for specialised treatment.

His situation has triggered concern among fellow students and local residents, many of whom are urging the government to act swiftly and ensure he gets the care he needs.

Confirming the incident, Iliya Kefas, the Coordinator of the PDP Youths Movement and official in charge of PDP Flag Mobilisation (PDPFF), told DAILY GAZETTE that Paul was injured while mounting the party’s flag near the entrance of the Polytechnic during the TARAVEST event.

“Yes, the boy named Paul was electrocuted during our exercise. He was rushed to the hospital, and the government has taken responsibility for his medical bills. We are praying for his recovery,” Kefas said.

ESN Is Illegal, Unlike Amotekun – DSS Official Tells Court

A Department of State Services (DSS) official told a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday that the Eastern Security Network (ESN), created by Nnamdi Kanu of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), operates illegally, unlike Amotekun, which is backed by laws enacted by South West state assemblies.

Testifying as the second prosecution witness in the ongoing terrorism trial of Kanu, the DSS officer made the distinction between the two groups during a re-examination by the lead prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).

“ESN and Amotekun are not the same. I know that states in the South West passed laws to legalise Amotekun. But ESN is not registered. ESN is illegal. Amotekun is recognised by law,” the DSS official stated.

He acknowledged that DSS Director General Tosin Ajayi had, in the past, spoken about community policing, but clarified that it must be done “under the guidance and approval of security agencies” to prevent misuse.

Earlier, defence counsel Paul Erokoro (SAN) presented three video clips contained on a flash drive, all of which were admitted as evidence and played in open court.

One of the videos featured the DSS boss addressing a crowd, promoting the idea of community-led protection efforts against bandits, while also emphasizing oversight.

“The practical approach to mobilising people is to get everyone involved. It is impossible for the security agencies to deploy to every part of the country,” the DG said in the clip.

“What we need to do is to make communities set up a first line of defence. We have to allow some level of armament for the communities to rise and defend themselves first, but under the guidance and approval of security agencies. The time to start it is now.”

When asked by Erokoro if the DSS chief was encouraging self-defence among communities, the witness reiterated that the call was made “under the guidance and approval” of established security organs.

Another video clip showed former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma, accusing the military of collaborating with criminal groups:

“They collude with the armed bandits that kill people, that kill Nigerians. They facilitate their movements. They cover them. If you are depending on the armed forces to protect you, you will all die one by one,” Danjuma said.

When asked to identify the speaker, the witness confirmed it was Danjuma but declined to comment further:
“You can call him and ask for the interpretation of what he meant.”

The third video featured Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who blamed the violence in the state on opposition politicians.

Erokoro asked if this contradicted the DSS claim that IPOB members were responsible for killings in Orlu, Imo State.

The witness responded:
“Our investigation revealed those who were killed by suspected IPOB members, and we mentioned their names. The governor did not mention any names of people he said were killed.”

He also testified that Kanu remained an IPOB member even after the group was proscribed by court order.

When asked about the EndSARS protest, the witness acknowledged the public’s demand for the disbandment of SARS and the role of various inquiry panels that followed.

Erokoro presented the Lagos State commission’s report on EndSARS, which the court accepted into evidence.

The witness confirmed that the report neither implicated IPOB nor labeled the protests as terrorism.

Before adjourning, Justice James Omotosho granted the prosecution six days to call its remaining witnesses and wrap up its case.

The defence will have nine days. The trial is scheduled to resume on May 28 and 29, June 6, 16, 18, and 19.

PDP Gasping For Breath – Ganduje

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “gasping for breath” due to internal divisions and a wave of defections that are swelling the ranks of the ruling party.

Speaking on Thursday at the APC National Summit held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ganduje pointed to factional conflicts and declining unity within the PDP as signs of the party’s collapse, while attributing its setbacks to the APC’s growing dominance and leadership.

“The PDP is now gasping for breath,” Ganduje declared.

“Its house is divided, and its members are trooping into the APC in droves. That is the impact of our performance and leadership.”

According to Ganduje, the APC now controls 22 of Nigeria’s 36 states — a figure he hinted is likely to rise as more politicians defect.

“One more governor is on the way,” he said, though he did not disclose which state the defection might come from.

Ganduje also emphasized that the APC is focused on expanding its political influence in preparation for upcoming elections, including the governorship race in Anambra State and other off-cycle polls.

He cited the APC’s string of post-2023 electoral victories as clear evidence of the party’s rising popularity and as an indicator of success heading into the 2027 general elections.

“We are preparing strategically, and our recent victories are signs of what is to come. Even in the Federal Capital Territory, through our political dexterity, we are confident of success,” he stated.

The summit drew key APC stakeholders from across the nation, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and 22 APC governors.

The gathering was part of the party’s effort to solidify internal unity and shape its political direction ahead of future contests.

Two Israeli Embassy Staff Shot Dead Outside Jewish Museum In Washington

Two staff members of the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C, were shot and killed on Wednesday night outside the Capital Jewish Museum in what officials have described as a hate-motivated attack.

The victims, identified by Israel’s Foreign Ministry as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, were attending a social event hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) for young Jewish professionals and diplomats when the shooting occurred.

According to Washington Police Chief Pamela Smith, the shooter, later identified as Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old from Chicago, approached the group outside the museum, pulled a handgun, and opened fire.

“Prior to the shooting, the suspect was observed pacing back and forth outside of the museum. He approached a group of four people, produced a handgun and opened fire,” Chief Smith told reporters.

After the attack, Rodriguez entered the museum, where he was detained by security. He later informed police where he had discarded the weapon.

A video circulating on social media captured a young bearded man in a jacket and white shirt shouting “free, free Palestine” as he was led away by police officers.

The motive is being investigated, but officials and witnesses have characterized it as an antisemitic attack.

The victims were a young couple who were about to become engaged, according to Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter.

“The young man purchased a ring this week with the intention of proposing to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem,” Leiter said.

“They were a beautiful couple.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the attack, calling it a clear act of antisemitism.

“These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA,” he wrote on social media.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a strong statement in response to the shooting.

“We are witnessing the terrible price of antisemitism and the wild incitement against the State of Israel,” he said.

“Blood libels against Israel are paid in blood, and they must be fought relentlessly. My heart aches for the families of the beloved young man and woman, whose lives were abruptly cut short by a despicable antisemitic murderer.”

World leaders from Britain, France, and Germany joined in condemning the attack.

The AJC, which organized the event, expressed its grief and outrage through its CEO, Ted Deutch.

“We are devastated that two cherished friends and partners from the Israeli embassy were shot and killed as they left an American Jewish Committee event,” Deutch said.

“It strongly appears that this was an attack motivated by hate against the Jewish people and the Jewish state. This senseless hate and violence must stop.”

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser also addressed the tragedy, promising that the city would stand firm against hate.

“We’re going to stand together as a community in the coming days and weeks to send the clear message that we will not tolerate anti-Semitism,” Bowser said.

“The horrific incident is going to frighten a lot of people in our city, and in our country. I want to be clear that we will not tolerate this violence or hate.”

The Capital Jewish Museum, located just over a mile from the White House, has since been secured, with emergency vehicles and law enforcement officers remaining on site into Thursday morning.

2027: APC Governors Back President Tinubu For Second Term

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, all 22 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate.

The endorsement came on Thursday during the APC National Summit held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja.

The governors, acting under the umbrella of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu and formally initiated the move to adopt him for re-election.

Speaking on behalf of the governors, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma made the announcement during the summit.

The endorsement motion was swiftly supported by the PGF Vice Chairman and Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, who joined Uzodimma on the podium to second it.

Governor Uzodimma subsequently presented the motion for a voice vote before the summit attendees.

Those present included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly, current and former governors, and APC representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The motion was met with unanimous approval.

“In a voice vote followed by a standing ovation, [they] adopted President Tinubu for a second term in office come 2027,” the report noted.

The endorsement follows similar expressions of support from other factions within the APC, including a recent vote of confidence by governors from the North Central region.

I See Everything Turning Around For You In 2027 – Akpabio To Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s political future, declaring that his re-election bid in 2027 will be much smoother than the 2023 contest.

Akpabio made this statement on Thursday while leading the National Assembly leadership in passing a vote of confidence in President Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national summit, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“If this president has done well, is it not us (National Assembly) that will say so? If he has not done well, is it not us that will give him notice of impeachment?”

“We are not giving him notice of impeachment, we are giving him notice that it was difficult for you in 2023, but in 2027 I see everything turning around, the number of states that are coming to join you,” Akpabio declared.

He also recounted an encounter with a senator from the Labour Party, underscoring the shift in political alignment.

“As I was leaving, one senator was dragging my dress today. He said, ‘please take me there’, and I said you can’t come now. He is a Labour senator but I don’t want to mention his name,” Akpabio added.

The vote of confidence aligns with earlier support from the Progressives Governors’ Forum, which also endorsed Tinubu’s leadership during the summit.

The party leadership formally adopted this endorsement at the gathering, which was attended by President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, and other prominent party figures.

Tinubu, who is nearing his second anniversary in office, secured victory in the 2023 presidential election amidst stiff competition from key rivals.

He won in 12 out of 36 states and amassed 8,794,726 votes, outpacing his nearest challenger, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, who garnered 6,984,520 votes.

Labour Party candidate and former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, achieved a notable third-place finish with 6,101,533 votes, having mobilized an energetic base of mostly young voters.

Akpabio, Yahaya Bello To Testify In FG’s Criminal Defamation Suit Against Senator Natasha

The Nigerian government has filed criminal defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing her public allegations that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello plotted to assassinate her.

According to court documents obtained by DAILY GAZETTE, the charges were filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the Federal Republic of Nigeria listed as the complainant and Senator Natasha as the sole defendant.

The senator is being charged under Section 391 of the Penal Code Law, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990. The alleged offence is punishable under Section 392 of the same law.

The allegations stem from a live interview Senator Natasha granted on Channels Television’s programme Politics Today on April 3, 2025, during which she stated:

“I do stand by what I said. In respect to the meeting or discussion Akpabio had with Yahaya Bello that night to eliminate me.”

She also accused Senate President Akpabio of orchestrating the withdrawal of her security detail to make her more vulnerable to attack.

The government plans to call six witnesses, including key political figures, to testify in the case.

Godswill Akpabio and Yahaya Bello are listed as nominal complainants and are expected to testify on their personal knowledge of the events.

Their addresses are listed as No. 13 TY Danjuma Street, Asokoro, and No. 9 Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, respectively.

Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo, whom Natasha alleged drove Bello to the Hilton Hotel for the said meeting, is also listed as a witness. His address is the Senate Building, National Assembly Complex.

Dr. Sandra C. Duru, a U.S.-based individual, is included as a witness, listed to testify about her knowledge of the matter.

Her address is 1 Chrisholm Trail Road, Suite 450, Round Rock, Texas, 78681.

Two police officers from the IGP Monitoring Unit, ACP Maya Iliya and SP Abdulhafiz Garba, are listed as the investigating officers in the case.

Before the television interview, Senator Natasha had made similar claims at a political rally in Kogi State.

“The Senate President first reached out to Governor Ododo to recall me. But Ododo declined, saying the people love me too much. So he turned to Yahaya Bello,” she said at the rally.

“Akpabio was not satisfied. He then called for Yahaya Bello. It was Senator Asuquo who drove Yahaya Bello to the Hilton. I was informed. The meeting was in two folds.”

“He told him to commence my recall. He was going to fund it. Of course, money changed hands that day. The second thing was that he should kill me.”

“Akpabio told Yahaya Bello to kill me. He told him not to do it in Abuja. It should be done here [in Kogi], so it would seem like the people killed me. I didn’t make that public, but we did notify the police about it.”

Join APC With Me Or Resign – Akwa-Ibom Governor Tells Commissioners

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a firm directive to all commissioners and political appointees in his administration: either defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with him or resign their appointments.

Speaking during an ongoing State Executive Council meeting in Uyo on Thursday, Eno clarified his position on leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which has governed the state for 25 years.

“Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave PDP is still living in 18th century,” the governor declared.

Multiple sources present at the meeting confirmed the governor’s remarks, noting that Eno emphasized his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and his desire to align politically with him.

“Let me tell you, anybody who believes when I leave PDP he will use the party structure to fight me is lying because I will still control the PDP structure,” Eno added, signaling his intent to retain influence even within the PDP.

The governor reportedly made it clear that the directive applied to all appointees except elected officials such as members of the State House of Assembly and Local Government Chairmen.

“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you,” he warned.

Eno’s expected official defection on June 6 would end PDP’s 25-year dominance in the state.
