I have Long Stopped Doing ‘Oke Ite’ – Popular Anambra Native Doctor Confesses

A well-known celebrity native doctor, Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, has been arrested by Agunechemba, a local vigilante group in Anambra State.

His arrest was confirmed on Saturday in a video shared via the Anambra State New Media handle on Facebook.

The incident took place in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

According to the post, “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba denies Okeite and has been detained for further investigation by the security agency.”

Sources indicate that after his arrest, he was taken to the office of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, for questioning.

In a widely circulated video, the deputy governor is seen interrogating him.

While responding to the allegations, Akwa Okuko stated, “I have long stopped doing ‘Oke Ite’. That thing is not a charm. We just gave it the name ‘Oke Ite’ because we put it in a pot.”

Reacting to his explanation, the deputy governor insisted on further investigations, saying, “We need to take him to where he does these things. We will investigate him, and of course, we need to know where he does these things.”

Akwa Okuko has been a controversial figure in recent times.

In July 2023, he was abducted by gunmen and reportedly spent days in captivity before being released after a ransom was allegedly paid.

Additionally, there are accusations that he provides charms for criminals, including kidnappers disguising as internet fraudsters.

To curb crime in the state, the administration of Governor Charles Soludo enacted the Anambra State Homeland Security Law in 2025.

The law imposes stringent penalties on native doctors involved in the preparation or administration of charms such as ‘Odeshi’, ‘Okeite’, and ‘Mkpu Egbe’.

How I Blocked Godfathers From Exploiting Osun State Resources – Governor Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has opened up about his administration’s journey over the past two years, revealing the challenges he has faced and the reforms he has implemented to improve governance.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, Adeleke addressed public perceptions about his leadership, his infrastructure projects, and how he has managed state resources.

Reflecting on his tenure so far, Adeleke acknowledged that many people initially doubted his capabilities.

Two years with a lot of challenges. I was cheated in 2018. Everyone knew that I won that election but that one is over now. I went back to prepare more, and I believe in God. Then God said that my time will come, and it was a street victory. It is not easy to defeat an incumbent in Africa, especially in Nigeria here. But I did; there’s nothing they could do about it. I see that as God telling me that it’s my time.”

Adeleke noted that before assuming office, critics dismissed him as merely a “dancing senator” who would spend his tenure celebrating instead of governing. However, he revealed that he had a well-thought-out plan even before taking office.

I laid out my blueprints silently, and immediately I was sworn in, I began with action. It was challenging at first. I first went around. I’m not a governor that sits around the office in the air conditioner. I put on my sneakers, my cap, and go around and inspect projects so that the contractors will know that I mean business.”

The governor also disclosed the state of affairs when he assumed office, lamenting that the Government House had been vandalized.

There were a lot of abandoned projects, including the Government House. The Government House was looted. They were so upset that I defeated them, so they looted the Government House, which when we came in, we did the video and showed the whole world. This is democracy. If Osun people decide that they don’t want you when you have done your own, then bow out and appreciate the opportunity they have given you. They looted the whole place; it took me one year to move into the Government House.”

Despite the extensive looting, Adeleke chose not to focus on recovering stolen items or probing past administrations.

No, because if you try to do that, you will be wasting your time. I did not even probe anybody, and the money they owed was crazy. I showed it to everyone. I even called all the obas (kings) that this is what I met on the ground. Osun State, with our little resources, owed close to N60 billion, apart from others that we discovered later. Why do I need to waste my time to start probing? So I just forgot about that and went straight to work.”

Adeleke highlighted his administration’s focus on infrastructure, particularly roads and bridges, to support local farmers and boost economic activity.

Infrastructure is very important. I’m not doing the ones that people will see. I go inside villages and everything because our people are mostly farmers. And if they don’t have good roads, how are they going to bring their goods to town? So that’s the first agenda. I made sure that I fit in the infrastructure, the roads, and even bridges that I’m doing at the same time.”

He detailed his ambitious N100 billion infrastructure plan, which many initially doubted, but he has successfully executed within two years.

If you come to Osogbo now, to other cities, I’ve done about 150 kilometres. As I’m doing it, I’m putting lights on the streetlight. When you come at night, it’s so beautiful. Everywhere you go, at least you have road construction. Every little town, we have at least 1.5 kilometres of roads, so you cannot say I did not touch anywhere.”

Despite inheriting a significant debt burden, Adeleke assured that his administration has been gradually paying it off.

“I am paying it, and it is reducing.”

On how his government is generating funds, Adeleke revealed a shift in fiscal management and revenue collection.

From taxes, from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). So we improved it, we changed the system. I blocked all the leakages to the extent that no godfather can take advantage of the system. Where it’s not necessary to spend money, I block it. I am a very prudent administrator. I check it myself; that is why I am successful. I didn’t owe anybody any favours because nobody financed my campaign.”

Adeleke also highlighted the revival of Osun’s mining sector, which had been neglected by previous administrations.

That is part of it. They abandoned it before now, but I have restarted it, and we are now making money from mining. Now we have a licence, a shareholder license. It has never happened before. I’m going to call the Minister of Solid Mineral Resources, Dele Alake, so that I can go and pick up the licence. That’s another way to make money.”

He further emphasized his administration’s financial prudence, revealing that he has refrained from using security votes for personal expenses.

For security votes, I don’t touch it. I left it there.”

Netanyahu Backs Trump’s Gaza Plan, Says Israel Will Implement It

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed strong support for former US President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to facilitate the relocation of Palestinians from Gaza, stating that Israel is prepared to take responsibility for its execution.

In an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Netanyahu described Trump’s proposal as a breakthrough approach to addressing Gaza’s future, dismissing criticisms that it could lead to forced displacement.

I think that President Trump’s proposal is the first fresh idea in years, and it has the potential to change everything in Gaza,” Netanyahu said, arguing that it offers a viable path forward for the war-torn territory.

According to Netanyahu, Trump’s plan does not involve American military intervention. Instead, Israel is willing to handle the process.

All Trump is saying, ‘I want to open the gate and give them an option to relocate temporarily while we rebuild the place physically,’” he explained. “Trump never said he wants American troops to do the job. Guess what? We’ll do the job.”

Israel captured Gaza during the 1967 war and maintained a military presence there until 2005, when it withdrew settlers and troops.

However, following Hamas’ takeover of the enclave, Israel imposed a strict blockade, which intensified after the October 2023 war between Israel and Hamas.

The ongoing conflict, triggered by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel in 2023, has been one of the most violent and destructive confrontations in recent history.

Netanyahu argued that Trump’s proposal represents a shift from failed past strategies, which, in his view, only allowed terrorist groups to re-establish control in Gaza.

The same old, same old, same old — we leave, Gaza becomes again occupied by these terrorists who use it as a base to attack Israel… It doesn’t go anywhere. I think we should pursue it,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that one major challenge remains: finding a country willing to accept displaced Gazans.

For many Palestinians, any large-scale relocation out of Gaza is reminiscent of the 1948 Nakba (or “catastrophe”), during which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced following the creation of Israel.

Netanyahu, however, dismissed concerns about forced expulsion, claiming that the goal is to offer Gazans a way out of what has often been described as an “open-air prison.”

Everybody describes Gaza as the biggest open-air prison in the world,” he said. “Get the population out, allow them to leave. Not forcible eviction, not ethnic cleansing — getting people out of what all these countries and all these do-gooders say is an open-air prison. Why are you keeping them in prison?”

The Israeli leader also stated that any Palestinians who wished to return to Gaza in the future would have to “disavow terrorism.”

Trump’s plan has been widely criticized across the Middle East and beyond, with many viewing it as a potential violation of international law.

However, Netanyahu remains firm in his belief that it could provide a long-term solution to the Gaza conflict.

Dismissed INEC REC, Demands Fair Hearing, Insists Binani Won Adamawa Governorship Election

Hudu Ari, the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, has spoken out following his recent dismissal over alleged electoral misconduct, insisting that he was not given a fair hearing before being removed from office.

Addressing journalists in Bauchi, Ari claimed that despite multiple attempts to present his defense, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected his letters.

He also alleged that the tribunal handling the election dispute between Aisha Binani and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri refused to admit his evidence.

According to Ari, he had critical documents proving his case but was never given an opportunity to present them.

Displaying what he described as authentic result sheets and letters sent to INEC, he questioned the fairness of the process.

The dismissal is not my problem. The civil service operates under clear rules and procedures. In law, there is a golden rule of natural justice, which states that everyone must be heard. Even God does not punish without first sending messages through prophets and scriptures,” he said.

Expressing frustration over his inability to formally present his case, Ari added, INEC refused to accept my letters, and the tribunal decided not to consider my evidence. Even as an ordinary judge, what would you say to that?”

Holding a copy of the Holy Quran, Ari swore that his actions were guided by his faith and a commitment to truth.

Wallahi, whatever I do, I do within the bounds of the Quran. We have to remember the last day,” he stated.

He further alleged that certain INEC officials were compromised, and others faced physical threats during the 2023 electoral process.

Despite widespread criticism and his subsequent dismissal, Ari maintained that he had no regrets about his role in the election.

“I have been tried and judged by the media, but I stand by my actions. If given another opportunity, I would do the same thing again because I believe I acted in the interest of truth,” he declared.

Reaffirming his controversial stance on the Adamawa governorship election, Ari insisted, I can even announce it now—she (Binani) won the election against Fintiri.”

He noted he is currently consulting with family and close associates to determine his next steps.

US Judge Halts Musk’s Team From Accessing Treasury Data

A U.S. District Judge, Paul Engelmayer, has issued an emergency injunction preventing Elon Musk’s cost-cutting government reform team from accessing personal and financial data stored at the Treasury Department, according to court documents released on Saturday.

Engelmayer’s order bars Treasury Department access for “all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department.”

This restriction will remain in place until a scheduled hearing on February 14, 2025.

The order further mandates that any individuals who have already accessed Treasury records since President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20 must “immediately destroy any and all copies of material downloaded.”

Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, has been leading the Trump administration’s cost-cutting initiative under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

However, his involvement has raised legal concerns.

The lawsuit against the Trump administration, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and the Department of the Treasury was filed by attorneys general from 19 states, who claim the administration violated federal law by granting Musk’s DOGE team access to sensitive Treasury data.

Although Musk has been classified as a “special government employee,” he is not a federal worker or government official.

Additionally, DOGE has not received congressional approval to operate as an official government department.

Since Trump’s return to office, Musk and his team have aggressively pushed to reduce federal spending, halt foreign aid programs, and lay off large numbers of government employees.

Reacting to the court order, Musk took to X, where he called Engelmayer an “activist” judge and accused Democrats of “trying to hide possibly the biggest fraud scheme in human history!”

In his ruling, Judge Engelmayer emphasized the urgency of restricting access, stating that without legal intervention, the plaintiff states would “face irreparable harm.”

“That is both because of the risk that the new policy presents of the disclosure of sensitive and confidential information and the heightened risk that the systems in question will be more vulnerable than before to hacking,” Engelmayer wrote.

The controversy surrounding Musk’s team intensified last week after reports suggested they had direct access to classified Treasury data.

According to an internal Treasury Department assessment, the DOGE team’s involvement posed “the single biggest insider threat the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) has ever faced,” U.S. media reported.

The lawsuit, filed in a Manhattan federal court by states including California and New York, alleges that at least one 25-year-old DOGE associate was given “virtually unfettered access” to BFS payment systems, with the ability to “view or modify numerous critical files.”

The suit warns that this level of access “poses huge cybersecurity risks, including risks to states and states’ residents that their information will be used and processed, unchecked, in a manner not permitted by federal law.”

Additionally, it claims that data from various federal agencies is being “fed into an open-source Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) system owned and controlled by a private third party.”

New Jersey Attorney-General Matthew Platkin condemned the situation, saying, “Trump has allowed an unelected billionaire to infiltrate key federal agencies and systems that store Social Security numbers, banking information, and other extremely sensitive data for millions of people.”

This latest case is one of several legal challenges facing the Trump administration as it moves aggressively to reshape government operations.

A judge has already blocked Trump’s attempt to revoke birthright citizenship, while another recently halted an initiative offering mass buyouts to federal employees.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which manages humanitarian aid, has been significantly impacted by the administration’s policies. Trump has ordered thousands of overseas USAID staff to return to the U.S. and is working to slash the agency’s workforce from 10,000 to just 300 employees.

Labor unions have pushed back, and on Friday, a federal judge temporarily halted the administration’s plan to place 2,200 USAID workers on paid leave.

Democrats argue that Trump’s efforts to dismantle government agencies without congressional approval violate constitutional principles.

Adeboye Calls For Release Of Detained TikToker, Disowns Group Behind Arrest

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has demanded the immediate release of popular TikToker, Olumide Ogunsanwo, also known as SeaKing, who was arrested and arraigned in court for criticizing the cleric on social media.

Adeboye also distanced himself from the arrest, stating that he had no knowledge of the incident or the individuals responsible for it.

SeaKing was taken into custody in December 2024 after posting a video in which he criticized Adeboye for instructing his congregation to embark on a 100-day fast for Nigeria.

In the post, the TikToker described the directive as “stupid,” sparking outrage among some religious followers.

The arrest was reportedly initiated by the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, a religious group that petitioned the Lagos State Police Command, leading to SeaKing’s detention. The case quickly gained widespread attention, with many social media users condemning the arrest.

However, in a viral video seen by DAILY GAZETTE on Saturday, Adeboye clarified that he had no hand in the matter and had no connection to those who initiated the arrest.

“I heard that there was someone who lambasted me thoroughly because I asked my people to fast for 100 days. I didn’t ask him o. I didn’t even ask anybody who is not a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast—only my children. But God said that it would happen. I was told that some people got so angry, and they went and arrested the fellow. Haaa! Release him. He is fulfilling prophecy,” Adeboye stated.

In a YouTube video posted on Friday, the leader of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, James Adama, acknowledged that the group was behind SeaKing’s arrest.

He justified the move as a necessary step to curb cyber harassment against respected religious leaders.

“I was simply disturbed to come across a recent video in which an individual identified as 32-year-old Ogunsanwo Olumide launched a vicious verbal assault on Pastor E.A. Adeboye.

In a shocking display of disrespect and defiance, Mr. Ogunsanwo branded Pastor Adeboye as a very stupid person and a fool, alleging that he had instructed his congregation to engage in a 100-day fast.

“This brazen act of verbal harassment is not only reprehensible but also strikes at the heart of our cultural norms and values. It undermines the crucial principle of respect for elders, which is deeply embedded in our society, and threatens to erode the very foundation of our moral framework.

“This is to inform the general public that Ogunsanwo has been arrested and will be charged in court for his unprovoked, distasteful, and disrespectful insult directed at the revered Christian leader. The Concerned Christian Youth Forum is behind his arrest,” Adama declared.

One of SeaKing’s legal representatives, Deji Adeyanju, praised Adeboye’s stance on the matter and vowed to take legal action against those responsible for the arrest.

“That is how pastors should behave. Any pastor who arrests someone for insulting or criticising him is an unbeliever. But the Nigerian police are jobless. How can someone file a petition when he is not even the one defamed? We will advise SeaKing to sue the person who wrote the petition because he had no legal standing to do so in the first place,” Adeyanju said.

Regarding the next steps following Adeboye’s public statement, Adeyanju added, “It all depends on the police. You know the Nigeria police have a penchant for impunity and senselessness. But we will review Adeboye’s video and take it from there.”

FUTO Host Communities Petition Uzodinma Over Alleged Land Grabbing

The accredited youth and leaders of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) host communities have petitioned Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, over alleged land grabbing by agents of the state government.

In their petition, the communities also claimed that their appointed attorney, Chief Sam Anokam, was facing death threats from what they described as “the cult of land grabbers,” urging the governor to provide him with protection.

The petition, signed by representatives from Avu, Obinze, Umuanunu, Ihiagwa Ancient Kingdom, Dindi Ihiagwa, Umuoma Nekede, Eziobodo, Eziokwele, Emeabiam, Okolochi, and Obibi-Ezena, accused certain state government agents of encroaching on their ancestral lands along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

The communities detailed the efforts of their attorney, Chief Sam Anokam, a professional estate manager, in securing the excision of their land from FUTO’s control.

According to them, Anokam’s intervention played a crucial role in securing the approval of former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, for the return of approximately 1,267 hectares of land to the host communities in 2020.

Abia Police Dismiss Three Officers Over Misconduct

The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed three officers for misconduct, conspiracy, extortion, and abduction.

The dismissed personnel, identified as Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi (Force No. 501356), Corporal James Daniel (Force No. 511844), and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka, were attached to the Aba Area Command, the Department of Operations in Umuahia, and the Eziama Police Divisional Headquarters in Aba, respectively.

Confirming their dismissal, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, stated that the officers were removed after undergoing administrative disciplinary procedures.

She emphasized that the action aligns with the vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to eliminate corrupt elements within the force.

Chinaka further revealed that some of their civilian accomplices were apprehended during an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi, also known as the World Bank Police Station, CSP Basil Iheanacho, on January 29.

Recovered items from the dismissed officers included an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

“They were found to have conspired and hired a minibus, which they used to ‘abduct’ civilians along Port Harcourt Expressway, threaten and extort them, and later demand extra money from their families for their release,” Chinaka stated.

Following an orderly room trial, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Abia State, Danladi Isa, approved their dismissal.

“An investigation/orderly room trial was initiated by the Command, and the investigation confirmed their involvement in the unprofessional conduct which is prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, leading to their dismissal.”

“Their official accoutrements have been retrieved by the Command’s Provost, and they cease to be members of the force.”

Chinaka also disclosed that the dismissed officers have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian co-conspirators.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, stated:

“The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirms the command’s zero tolerance for corruption and other unprofessional conduct, emphasizing that discipline and professionalism are the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force.”

“He assured the public that the command will not condone the activities of bad eggs in the force and that the command under his leadership remains committed to the vision of the Inspector General of Police in ensuring a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law-compliant, and people-friendly police force,” Chinaka concluded.
