How I Threatened To Sack Wike If His Policies Didn’t Align With My Party – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disclosed that he jokingly warned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, about the political implications of his policies, stating that he could lose his job if they did not align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu made the remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja when Wike led a delegation of prominent FCT residents on a Sallah homage to mark the end of Ramadan fasting and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The President recounted how Wike approached him with a request to exempt the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enable more financial flexibility for infrastructure development.

“I remember the day Nyesom Wike came to me and said, ‘Please, take us out of this problem of Treasury Single Account (TSA) so that I can do more work and achieve more,’” Tinubu stated.

He explained that he then challenged Wike on the potential political consequences of such a move.

“And he presented it, and I threw in my own political guide: ‘Would that give me any opportunity for my party (APC) to win the election in FCT?’

“I said, ‘I know where you are coming from, your own party (PDP) or my party. If this thing goes too much in your own favour, you will lose your job.’ Then he said, ‘Okay, we settle that, Oga.’”

President Tinubu praised Wike for his contributions to transforming the FCT, particularly in infrastructure, health, and education.

“He came up with a lot of good ideas to liberate the bureaucracy, bring forward-looking, progressive thinking to the administration, and provide opportunities for many who would have been hindered by property rights,” Tinubu noted.

The President highlighted several of Wike’s achievements, including:

  • Revitalizing the Vice-President’s residence, which had been abandoned for years.
  • Rehabilitating health centers and improving healthcare services in the FCT.
  • Upgrading school infrastructure and enhancing teacher welfare programs.

“Thank you, Wike,” Tinubu concluded, recognizing the minister’s efforts.

The President’s comments highlight the intersection of governance and political strategy, emphasizing the need for policy alignment with party objectives.

While Wike, a key member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), insists that his focus remains on FCT development, his collaboration with the APC-led administration continues to generate debate within opposition circles.

2027: LP To Use Anambra Governorship Election As A Precursor – Abure

The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Julius Abure, has declared that the upcoming Anambra State governorship election in November 2024 will serve as a strategic precursor to the party’s ambition of winning the 2027 presidential election.

Abure made this assertion in Awka, the Anambra State capital, during a forum organized by the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) for LP aspirants to engage with party delegates ahead of the party’s primary election on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja on Sunday.

Represented at the event by the National Women Leader of the party, Mrs. Dudu Manuga, Abure reaffirmed LP’s readiness for both the Anambra election and the 2027 general elections.

“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party. We are present in all states of Nigeria and Abuja, and we are preparing not just for Anambra but for 2027.”

He emphasized the need for party unity and urged all aspirants and stakeholders to come together after the primaries.

“After the primary election this Saturday, no one is permitted to be angry. We must unite and work towards victory in the main election in November. Let us not be weak or divided. Together, nothing is impossible.”

Abure also outlined the party’s grassroots mobilization strategy, stressing that LP aims to establish a strong presence in every polling unit across Anambra State.

“This forum is to connect aspirants with the people they wish to govern. What is happening today in Anambra is crucial for our victory in 2027.”

Two leading LP governorship aspirants, Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu, addressed party members at the event, presenting their manifestos.

Dr. George Moghalu pointed out the erosion of public trust in governance as a critical issue in Anambra.

“People no longer trust the government. Security has collapsed, and thugs are being used to enforce tax collection. If the government does the right thing, people will willingly pay taxes without coercion. Tax collection can also be done electronically.”

He pledged to restore public confidence, improve security, and bring governance closer to the people to drive development in Anambra.

There Will Be Bombing If Iran Fails To Make Peace Deal – Trump Warns

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Iran, stating that military action will follow if Tehran does not agree to a peace deal and halts its nuclear ambitions.

“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,” Trump reportedly told an NBC News correspondent in an interview late Saturday. He also warned of imposing “secondary tariffs” as further punishment against Iran.

This statement marks an escalation from his earlier remarks, in which he cautioned that if Iran refused to negotiate a new nuclear agreement, “bad, bad things are going to happen to Iran.”

It remains unclear whether Trump was referring to a unilateral U.S. military operation or a coordinated strike involving Israel.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar recently told Politico that military intervention should remain a viable option.

“In order to stop a nuclear Iranian program before it will be weaponized, a reliable military option should be on the table,” Saar stated.

Reports suggest that Iran may be only weeks away from developing a deliverable nuclear weapon, though Tehran denies such intentions. Any military strike, however, risks triggering a broader regional conflict.

Trump withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, arguing it was ineffective, and reimposed harsh sanctions on Iran.

Now, during his second term, he has indicated a willingness to negotiate a new agreement aimed at reducing tensions.

In early March, Trump disclosed that he had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing discussions on a new deal.

Despite Trump’s “maximum pressure” strategy—which includes additional sanctions and military threats—Iran has remained unwilling to engage in direct talks with Washington, citing a lack of trust after the U.S. pulled out of the previous deal.

However, Trump claimed that indirect discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials are ongoing, though he provided no specifics.

On Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told the state-run IRNA news agency that Tehran had sent a response to Trump’s proposal via Oman, which has acted as a diplomatic intermediary in the past.

Third Term: I’m Serious About Running For President Again – Trump Declares

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again suggested that he may seek a third term in office, asserting in a conversation with NBC News on Sunday that he is “not joking” about the prospect.

During a phone call with the network, Trump was asked to clarify his previous remarks about serving beyond two terms, to which he responded, “I’m not joking… There are methods which you could do it.”

At 78, Trump has a history of making statements about extending his time in office beyond the constitutionally mandated two-term limit.

However, Sunday’s comments were among his most explicit yet in suggesting concrete plans for achieving that goal.

Since launching his second presidency, Trump has made sweeping executive decisions, including leveraging business leaders like Elon Musk to restructure parts of the government.

He claims many of his supporters are urging him to remain in power beyond a second term.

“A lot of people want me to do it,” he told NBC News. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

The U.S. Constitution currently limits presidents to two terms, and amending it to allow a third would require approval from two-thirds of both the House and Senate—an uphill battle given that Trump’s Republican Party does not hold such a majority.

Trump acknowledged the legal hurdles but revealed he has been presented with proposals that could enable him to run again.

Asked whether a scenario in which Vice President JD Vance runs for president and then steps aside to allow Trump to take over was a possible pathway, Trump responded, “That’s one.”

He added that “there are others,” though he declined to elaborate.

If Trump bypasses Congress, he would need backing from two-thirds of U.S. states to convene a constitutional convention, which could propose an amendment to allow a third term.

Any such change would still require ratification by three-quarters of all states.

Both routes remain highly unlikely given the current political landscape, as Republicans do not control enough states or congressional seats to push through such an amendment.

In U.S. history, all 27 constitutional amendments have been passed through the congressional route, and no constitutional convention has ever been successfully called.

In January, shortly after Trump returned to office, Republican Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee introduced a resolution in the House seeking to amend the Constitution to permit presidents to serve up to three terms.

However, the proposal faces steep political opposition.

Nigerian boxer Segun Olanrewaju has tragically passed away after collapsing during a match in Ghana on Saturday.

Olanrewaju was competing against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League, held at the Bukom Boxing Arena, when he lost consciousness mid-fight.

A viral video circulating online shows the moment he collapsed in the ring.

Despite immediate efforts to revive him, the 40-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after, bringing a heartbreaking end to his career.

Dermatologists Warn Women Against Wearing Second-Hand Underwear Due To Health Risks

Skin health experts have cautioned women against purchasing and wearing second-hand bras and pants, emphasizing the risk of bacterial infections and other health complications.

Dermatologists have particularly warned that women who wear such underwear without thorough washing and ironing expose themselves to higher chances of infections and skin reactions.

Acknowledging the economic difficulties that have increased the preference for second-hand clothing, commonly known as “Okrika,” the specialists advised women to prioritize their health by opting for new intimate wear.

In separate interviews, the experts noted that while soaking second-hand underwear in hot water, bleach, or disinfectant may help, there is no solid scientific proof that these measures completely eliminate the risks.

Already, over 20 million Nigerians are infected with hepatitis, a viral disease that inflames the liver.

Another concern is herpes, a contagious virus that causes painful sores on the mouth and genitals and spreads through skin contact. While treatable, herpes has no known cure.

A report by DAILY GAZETTE highlighted that economic hardship has pushed many Nigerian women, particularly in Lagos, to purchase second-hand bras and pants.

While the second-hand clothing market has long been popular, the surge in demand for intimate wear due to affordability is a recent trend.

Sellers of second-hand underwear boast of increased patronage, while buyers cite high costs of new underwear as the primary reason for turning to thrift options.

However, many users do not fully consider the health risks involved.

Providing expert analysis, Dr. Nafisatu Abdullahi, a Consultant Dermatologist and Venereologist at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, stressed that second-hand underwear—whether locally exchanged or imported—carries significant health risks.

She explained that underwear passed from one person to another within a short period could still contain organisms capable of causing diseases, especially if not properly washed.

Dr. Abdullahi further pointed out that even imported second-hand underwear, which takes longer before reaching a new user, poses risks of fungal infections.

“Getting previously used underwear from neighbors or relatives presents a few different health challenges compared with getting one that is coming, let’s say, all the way from China. Not necessarily because of the different skin colors but because of the time frame that they were last used,” she explained.

“Some of the adverse health implications for those who use previously used underwear include contracting fungal infections. This is because fungal organisms are known to have spores that can last for weeks and months lying dormant, waiting for the right environment to reactivate and cause infection.”

She added that wearers of second-hand underwear could also develop parasitic infections such as scabies and pubic lice.

Dr. Abdullahi further warned that wearing underwear recently used by another person without proper washing increases the risk of viral infections such as hepatitis or herpes.

“In the same vein, those that were used recently without proper washing put the wearers at risk of bacterial infection like E. coli and staphylococcus,” she stated.

She emphasized that the safest option remains wearing brand-new underwear. However, for those who insist on using second-hand underwear, she offered some precautionary measures.

“When you are given or buying fairly used underwear and can see a visible stain or perceive an odd smell, it is better to avoid those kinds of underwear.

“If it is possible to wear panty liners, it is better and safer compared with using the panties directly. Every previously owned item, including pants and bras, should be washed in hot water with bleach or another strong disinfectant, dried preferably in the hot sun, and thoroughly ironed.

“If you do all these and still develop a rash, itching, or any discomfort, it is best to see a dermatologist or doctor as quickly as possible,” she advised.

Another dermatologist, Dr. Olutomidimu Afolabi, highlighted additional health risks associated with wearing used underwear, stating that they have direct skin contact, increasing the chances of contracting infections, including sexually transmitted diseases.

She warned that wearing such underwear could expose individuals to hepatitis B and C, which are transmitted through blood, sexual fluids, and sweat.

“People get hepatitis from sharing clothing. Now I’m not even talking about underwear—just sharing clothes. Some people might want to argue that they will wash it with hot water and iron it. There is a need for more studies to show whether this has an effect. But some people wear these clothes and underwear without washing,” Dr. Afolabi said.

She acknowledged the economic challenges that push people toward second-hand clothing but strongly discouraged the use of thrift underwear due to the serious health risks involved.

Speaking on the dangers specifically faced by women, she explained, “When females have candida, that’s vaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infection), there’s whitish discharge, and part of the treatment is for the person to change their pants to prevent re-infection. Buying and wearing such disposable pants can pose an infection risk to the new user.”

Dr. Afolabi urged women to prioritize their health by purchasing affordable new underwear rather than taking risks with second-hand options.

Elon Musk Sells X To AI Firm xAI In $33 Billion Deal

Elon Musk has announced the sale of his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to his artificial intelligence company xAI in an all-stock transaction valued at $33 billion (€30.5 billion).

Musk, who acquired Twitter over two years ago and rebranded it as X, stated that the deal integrates the operations of both companies while keeping them privately held, thereby avoiding public financial disclosures.

In a post on X, Musk explained that the “combination values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion ($45B less $12B debt).”

He elaborated on the significance of the move, saying, “Since its founding two years ago, xAI has rapidly become one of the leading AI labs in the world, building models and data centers at unprecedented speed and scale.”

Describing X’s evolution under his leadership, he added, “X is the digital town square where more than 600M active users go to find the real-time source of ground truth, and in the last two years, has been transformed into one of the most efficient companies in the world, positioning it to deliver scalable future growth.”

Musk emphasized that the integration of xAI and X would create new opportunities by combining their respective strengths.

“Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution, and talent. This combination will unlock immense potential by blending xAI’s advanced AI capability and expertise with X’s massive reach,” he stated.

He further explained, “The combined company will deliver smarter, more meaningful experiences to billions of people while staying true to our core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge. This will allow us to build a platform that doesn’t just reflect the world but actively accelerates human progress.”

Musk initially acquired Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion (€40 billion) and has since implemented major changes, including workforce reductions, adjustments to content moderation policies, and the platform’s rebranding.

Following this, he founded xAI, which has quickly become a major player in the artificial intelligence sector.

In December, Musk revealed plans to expand xAI’s supercomputer, ‘Colossus,’ to compete with industry leaders like OpenAI, increasing the number of GPUs to accelerate AI model development.

The future implications of the deal for X users remain uncertain.

Currently, xAI utilizes data from X user posts to train its AI models, while premium X subscribers have access to its AI chatbot, Grok.

Tinubu Taking On Challenges Past Leaders Avoided – Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised President Bola Tinubu for his bold leadership, stating that history will remember him as the leader who confronted Nigeria’s most complex challenges head-on.

Speaking at a special Iftar to celebrate the president’s birthday at the presidential villa in Abuja on Saturday night, Shettima commended Tinubu for making difficult decisions that previous administrations had avoided.

He said: “Thanks to his boldness, future presidents of Nigeria will not have to wrestle with the same ghosts that haunted past administrations, including fraud-ridden fuel subsidies, an unstable forex market, and the suppression of local government autonomy.

“These were the thorny issues that many before him sidestepped. But Asiwaju did not sidestep history; he came to rewrite it.

“And in rewriting it, Asiwaju has taken the bullets that many before him simply lacked the courage to face. But that is the thing about true leadership: it is not for those who seek comfort. It is for those who understand that the path to national greatness is lined with difficult choices.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also praised President Tinubu, highlighting his ability to forgive and his unwavering commitment to national development.

Akpabio described Tinubu as a leader who thinks outside the box and called him the ‘most audacious president’ in Nigeria’s history.

He further noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, state governors are receiving increased allocations.

“If I were a governor under your administration, I would have been a ‘supernatural governor’ and not an uncommon governor,” Akpabio remarked.

Several other politicians have also paid tribute to President Tinubu in celebration of his birthday.

20 Lawyers To Challenge EFCC’s Allegations, Wanted Notice, Raids On Aisha Achimugu

A team of 20 constitutional lawyers and activists, led by Barrister Okere Kingdom, has announced plans to file multiple legal actions against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what they describe as unfounded allegations against businesswoman Aisha Achimugu.

The legal team aims to challenge the accusations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering, the EFCC’s declaration of Achimugu as a wanted person, and the raids conducted on her properties.

On Friday, the EFCC declared Achimugu wanted, with the agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, making the announcement through a circular posted on the commission’s official X handle.

The agency alleges that she is involved in a case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

However, in a statement, the group of constitutional lawyers dismissed the EFCC’s actions as unjust and politically motivated, insisting that Achimugu is a victim of targeted harassment.

“We are commencing multiple legal actions to quash the baseless allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering against a foremost successful businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu,” the statement read.

“The coordinated attempt to undermine the rights and integrity of a woman who has invested so much in Nigeria and built an international business cannot be tolerated. This is a clear case of organized intimidation and the misuse of state power for political reasons to frame a hardworking woman who is not a politician.”

The lawyers also criticized the EFCC for its swift action in raiding Achimugu’s Asokoro residence in Abuja shortly after declaring her wanted, alleging that her elderly mother was harassed during the operation.

They further claimed that similar intimidation tactics were used at her Maitama residence.

“It is curious that EFCC, just hours after this declaration, invaded Aisha’s house in Asokoro, Abuja, where they harassed her aged mother and continued with similar despicable acts at her house in Maitama,” the group stated.

“This violation of a citizen’s fundamental human rights and the intimidation of her family members and staff is dragging Nigeria back to the dark days. We will not fold our arms and let it happen.”

The legal team has vowed to initiate court proceedings this week to put an end to what they describe as an unjust persecution and a deliberate attempt to tarnish Achimugu’s reputation and business interests.

“The legal battle which will commence this week will put an end to these unjust persecutions and the deliberate plot to destroy the integrity and business expansion of a successful industrialist and businesswoman,” the lawyers stated.

SERAP Opposes Bill Mandating Compulsory Voting, Threatens Legal Action

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the leadership of the National Assembly to withdraw a proposed bill that seeks to make voting compulsory for Nigerians.

The bill, titled Bill for an Act to Amend the Electoral Act 2022 to Make It Mandatory for All Nigerians of Majority Age to Vote in All National and State Elections and for Related Matters,” stipulates a six-month jail term, a fine of ₦100,000, or both, for eligible voters who fail to participate in elections.

In a letter dated 29 March 2025 and signed by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP described the proposed legislation as repressive and a violation of fundamental rights.

“Jailing eligible Nigerians for deciding not to vote would be entirely inconsistent and incompatible with the letter and spirit of the Nigerian Constitution and the country’s international human rights obligations,” the letter read.

SERAP urged lawmakers to focus on electoral reforms that enhance voter participation rather than punishing those who choose not to vote.

“Rather than proposing bills that would severely punish Nigerians who may decide not to exercise their right to vote, the National Assembly ought to propose bills to remove constitutional immunity for governors and their deputies who commit electoral offences and undermine the integrity of the electoral process,” SERAP stated.

The organisation argued that forcing people to vote contradicts democratic principles.

“The right to vote includes the right not to vote. If the right to participation is a right of the citizen, he/she must be free to decide whether or not to exercise it,” the letter added.

SERAP also emphasised that Nigeria’s voter apathy is best addressed by improving electoral integrity and security rather than criminalising non-voters.

“The most effective way to solve the perennial voter apathy is to create a safe and conducive environment, combat the impunity of high-ranking politicians who commit electoral offences, and generally improve the electoral process to encourage citizens to come out to vote, not to send them to jail,” it said.

The group warned of legal action should the bill be passed.

“Should the National Assembly fail to drop the bill prescribing a six-month jail term for eligible Nigerians who decide not to vote in national and state elections, and should any such bill be assented to by President Bola Tinubu, SERAP would consider appropriate legal action to challenge the legality of any such law and ensure it is never implemented,” the letter stated.

SERAP further called for additional electoral reforms, including banning the appointment of partisan individuals as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and adopting modern technology in voter registration and election processes.

“The National Assembly ought to propose bills to reduce the influence of money in politics and encourage—not compel—the exercise of the right to participation,” the organisation added.
