After pleading not guilty to charges of tampering and abusing the naira, businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

Justice Kehinde Ogundare presided over the trial and approved Cubana Chief Priest’s bail in the sum of N10 million, with two sureties who must match the bail amount.

The celebrity barman faced three counts related to the abuse of the national currency, as he allegedly sprayed and tampered with the naira during a social event, an act deemed contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The charges stemmed from an incident on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, where Cubana Chief Priest was accused of spraying N500 denomination notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) while dancing at the event.

The court emphasized that Cubana Chief Priest’s actions during the social gathering constituted an offense under the law, as he was alleged to have engaged in the spraying of the naira for an extended period of two hours.

As the trial progresses, Cubana Chief Priest continues to maintain his innocence, setting the stage for further legal proceedings in the matter.
