The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for remitting N548 million to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell scheme, effectively resolving a long-standing dispute that had persisted since 2021.
This commendation came in a statement issued by the Kaduna State Council of the NUJ after its monthly congress, where the union also praised Governor Sani for his media-friendly approach.
Notably, the union acknowledged the significant representation of journalists in his cabinet since he assumed office in 2023.
The communique was signed by the drafting committee, including Chairman Ango Bally, Secretary Emmanuel Austine Agbo, and committee members Maryam Ahmadu Suka and Gambo Santos Sanga.
Additionally, the union hailed Governor Sani as a staunch advocate for the rule of law and traditional institutions.
This recognition stemmed from his action to reinstate the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, Chief Jonathan Pharaguwa Zamuna, after a National Industrial Court ruling nullified the decision of the previous administration under Governor Nasir El-Rufai to dethrone him.
Governor Sani’s adherence to the court’s ruling included the payment of damages amounting to ten million Naira, as well as settling Chief Zamuna’s salary and other entitlements.
The NUJ also expressed its appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, in supporting Governor Sani’s initiatives to restore peace in vulnerable areas across Kaduna State, particularly in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zangon Kataf, and Chikun Local Government Areas.
However, the union voiced its concern over the recent surge in attacks in areas like Kauru, Sanga, Kajuru, and Kachia LGAs, offering condolences to the victims of these incidents.
Finally, the council congratulated Governor Sani on receiving the Governor of the Year award from Thisday Newspaper and Arise News TV.
This accolade, according to the union, underscores his achievements in rural development, his unique approach to security, and his inclusive governance policy, which have collectively contributed to relative peace and stability in the state.
