The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to remove Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary and appoint Architect Setonji Koshoedo in his place.

In reaction to the development, the Interim Chairman of the Imo PDP, Chris Odoemenan, described the move as a fresh start for the party in the state.

He revealed that the party’s entire structure, including the 27 local government caretaker committees, had unanimously supported the NWC’s action.

“The Imo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Interim Committee led by Chris Odoemenan, alongside the 27 local government Caretaker Committee today passed a vote of confidence on the PDP NWC over the unanimous appointment of Arch. Setonji Koshoedo, as the substantive National Secretary of the party,” a statement issued after an emergency meeting in Owerri stated.

The leadership also affirmed their unwavering loyalty to both the new National Secretary and Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency, who is widely regarded as the party’s leading figure in the state.

“The PDP Interim EXCO at their emergency meeting held this evening (Tuesday) in Owerri, Imo State pledged their support to the State Leader and only surviving PDP public elected officer, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere (Ideato Rep) for his commitment,” Odoemenan added.

Furthermore, the state chapter urged the National Working Committee to formally ratify the interim executive committee of the Imo PDP at the party’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, noting that the nominations were made by key party stakeholders in the state.

“With Samuel Anyanwu now placed where he belongs, it is our firm belief and resolve that internal skirmishes in our state chapter of the party are now fully settled and PDP will rebound for the electoral contests ahead in Imo,” Odoemenan concluded.
