Enugu Police Commissioner, Giwa

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and neutralised one of the suspected abductors during a daring operation in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The operation, carried out by personnel of the CP’s Monitoring Unit and the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, also led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrelled pistol loaded with two live cartridges and a green Nissan Almeria used by the gang in the abduction.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the victim was kidnapped on May 2, 2025, around 9:00 pm in the Government Residential Area (GRA) of Enugu.

The suspects, operating in the Nissan vehicle, had abducted the victim in his Mercedes Jeep after firing sporadically to scare off passersby.

Upon receiving intelligence on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, immediately deployed tactical and intelligence assets, directing operatives to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of the culprits.

“The suspects had demanded a ransom of ₦20 million but managed to forcefully transfer ₦2.25 million from the victim’s account before the police closed in,” the statement revealed.

Acting on actionable intelligence, police operatives traced the gang to a valley hideout in the Ngwo area.

A gun duel ensued, resulting in the death of one of the kidnappers and the successful rescue of the victim.

The other suspects fled the scene and are currently being trailed.

While commending the operatives for their swift response and bravery, CP Giwa ordered an intensified manhunt for the fleeing gang members and the recovery of the victim’s stolen vehicle.

He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring public safety, urging residents to continue supporting police efforts by providing useful information.
