The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday announced the release of the results for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing a significant number of low scores among candidates.

According to data provided by the examination body, out of the total 1,955,069 candidates who took part in the nationwide assessment, more than 1.5 million scored below the 200 mark.

The official statement released by JAMB disclosed that only 420,415 candidates managed to score above 200, a result threshold often considered a baseline for competitive admission into tertiary institutions.

Further breakdown of the results shows that 4,756 candidates earned scores above 320, while 7,658 candidates fell within the 300–319 score bracket.

The Board also provided insight into the performance of young test-takers.

“40,247 underage candidates were permitted to demonstrate their exceptional abilities,” JAMB stated, indicating a continued effort to accommodate gifted learners.

However, the success rate among this group remained modest.

“Only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) achieved scores that meet the threshold for exceptional ability as defined for the UTME, with their performance in the subsequent three stages still pending,” the Board added.

This year’s outcome raises concerns about the level of preparedness among students and the persistent issues affecting educational standards across the country.

To help candidates access their results with ease, JAMB has provided two methods for checking scores, online and via SMS:
