A member of the House of Representatives from Enugu state, Barr. Sunday Umeha, who represents Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Umeha made the announcement on Saturday, 17 May 2025, during an APC gathering in Ibagwa Aka, Igbo-Eze South LGA of Enugu State.
Explaining his decision, the federal lawmaker said “the protracted crisis rocking the Labour Party at both the national and state levels” had undermined his ability to serve constituents effectively.
Joining the APC, he argued, would “connect to the centre and bring our people closer because there are a lot of advantages in plugging to the center.”
Umeha further claimed that the ruling party “has served the interest of Igbos better than the PDP at the federal level,” pointing to the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the Enugu-Port Harcourt road projects as evidence of the APC’s “landmark” investments in the South-East.
