A sudden fire outbreak on Monday engulfed a section of the railway line passing through the popular Ogbete Main Market in Enugu, sending traders into a state of panic.
The blaze, which reportedly started around midday, spread rapidly along the trackside.
Thick black smoke could be seen rising from the scene as flames raced dangerously close to market stalls.
An eyewitness who spoke to DAILY GAZETTE on the condition of anonymity said;
“We just saw fire blazing along the rail line. People started shouting and running. Luckily, it didn’t enter the shops,”
No casualties were reported as the cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined.
