A major fire outbreak early Sunday morning ravaged the Kara Market, a well-known wood and timber trading center in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, resulting in the destruction of shops and properties worth millions of naira.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began suddenly and quickly spread throughout the market before emergency responders could intervene.
“We just saw smoke everywhere, and before we knew it, the flames had engulfed most of the shops,” said Musa Bello, a trader who witnessed the incident.
Though the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, the incident has left many traders counting their losses.
In response, the Kebbi State Government offered condolences to those affected.
Abuzaid Yari, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, described the event as “an unfortunate incident”.
“The government sympathises deeply with the victims and prays that Allah replenishes their losses,” he stated.
Yari also acknowledged the efforts of the state fire service, noting their role in minimizing the scale of destruction.
“We appreciate the swift action of the fire service, whose efforts prevented further damage,” he said.
While the material losses were extensive, officials confirmed that no lives were lost.
The state government has assured residents of its commitment to protecting both lives and property.
