Authorities at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have dismissed reports linking the recent killings and abductions in the area to activities within the school.

The institution clarified that the violent incident, which reportedly resulted in the death of two persons and the kidnapping of two others, did not occur within the campus.

“The incident of two persons and two others that were killed and kidnaped did not occur inside the institution,” the school management said.

Eyewitnesses had earlier reported that gunmen invaded Oko community around 8 pm on Thursday, shooting sporadically and causing panic.

However, the management maintained that the attack happened within the community, not on school grounds.

“The incident occurred at the Okoh Community and not within the compound of the school,” the statement further clarified.

In a formal statement signed by Mr. Chijioke Ibeziako, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, the public was urged to “discountenance the report of killings and Kidnaping in the school,” emphasizing that the campus remains safe.

“The Polytechnic is safe and normal academic activities has been going on uninterrupted,” Ibeziako stated.

The institution also warned against the spread of false or inflammatory narratives that could undermine the investigation or create unnecessary fear.

“Members of the public should refrain from making inflammatory statements that may jeopardize investigation,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the management confirmed that security agencies are actively investigating the incident.

“The security operatives are on top of the manhunt to unmask the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” it concluded.
