Renowned Nigerian actor, director, and film producer Kayode Peters Adewumi, widely known for his contributions to television and cinema, has died in Toronto, Canada, after a prolonged battle with illness.
He passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, according to a statement released by his family.
In an emotional announcement shared via Instagram, the family expressed their heartbreak over his passing.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada,” the statement read.
“KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning.”
The tribute went on to celebrate Peters not only as a creative force but also as a deeply compassionate individual.
“KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, a gifted film maker, actor and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed.”
Kayode Peters began his artistic career with Theatre 15 at the University of Lagos, where his passion for the performing arts took root.
He rose to national prominence after creating the beloved sitcom Flatmates in 2004, which later evolved into the hit series My Flatmates, where he served as executive producer.
Peters also made his mark in television with projects such as Twilight Zone and the long-running comedy series Papa Ajasco and Company.
His move into film saw him directing projects like 13 Letters (2019) and Crazy Grannies (2021), adding to his reputation as a versatile and impactful storyteller.
